At the beach with grandma!
Myrtle Beach!
Well, technically Garden City Beach, just south of Myrtle Beach.
It was a trip—so to speak—getting here, as I had to load most of the car myself in the rain and then drive the first hour in a major downpour…but really the drive was uneventful.
Hauling in the first of two carts full:
Then Owen asked grandpa David to go down to the ocean. Gramma Jean and I watched from the 15th floor:
Then I decided to be a good mom and go down and take a few pictures (since Gramma Jean could stay with a napping Katie). This is Owen’s new Aqua-Zooka toy!
Coming home:
Miss Katie crawling over and through everything:
Grandma Jean says:
It’s been chilly, but we’ve taken Owen down to the beach and he loves running in and out of the water, even though it is about 52 degrees. His little legs were RED when we brought him back in he first day! He had a smile on his face, so that was worth it. Grampa took him down the first day and was wearing his heavy coat and fur hat while Owen had shorts on.
Monkey see, monkey do.
Katie goes after what she wants
And this time it’s what Owen has. 🙂
You can’t see me!

Road trip!
Tom had to go to Raleigh to see one of his marines who was in the hospital, so we decided to make a day of it and take Owen with us (leaving Katie at home with Grannie and Papa). We thought it would be a special treat for Owen…which it was, after the tantrums stopped. He knew he was going with us—we reaffirmed it time after time—but it didn’t stop him from asking 74 times and whining for unknown reasons (like when Papa simply tried to talk to him).
Anyway.
He was a trooper on the car ride (and even enjoyed sharing our chocolate shake).
He was a trooper at the hospital. He was a trooper at Costco. Then he fell asleep in the 15 minute drive to Trader Joes…
…so he was a bit cranky when we woke him up…and he demanded he take his B with him out of the car (which we rarely allow).
Then it was off to the park.
And amazingly, he actually went down the slides—and liked it! (He used to go on the slides in Troy, but for some reason he stopped liking them when we moved away.)

Knight Owen
A Lego minifig head is exactly the size of Owen’s nostril.
Wonder how I know? 😐
Yes, this was the first thing he actually stuck up his nose and couldn’t get out. I had to get the tweezers and threaten to take all his Legos away if he did it again.

- Karen—And that item looks pissed!
- Sheryl—Look at Owen’s face – did he get yelled at?
- Katherine—It happens
- Jennifer—Sheryl, not yelled at, but definitely told to SIT STILL AND DON’T TOUCH IT while I ran to get the tweezers…and to not do it again.
- Andrew—*laughs* Poor Owen.
- Jean—Remember when one of your “Brownie” friends stuck a Nerd up her nose in the car on the way to Cedar Point? OMG.
- Kristin—My brother in law didn’t stick things up his nose. He stuck red hots up his SISTER’S nose.
- Tammy—Poor Owen looks like he belongs in one of the Bad Dog pictures.
- Jennifer—He was actually just watching Sesame Street. He wasn’t upset.
- Jeremy—Whatever that is that was up his nose doesn’t look happy about it.
- Nancy—Awww! That photo is just great! I stuck a crayon in my belly button and my mom took me to the hospital because I wouldn’t tell her what happened, I was crying, and it was red. Kids, man.

OWEN ATE A BANANA!!!!
Owen shocked the hell out of me and asked for AND ATE a banana today. Just. like. that.
I was on the computer in the office and he was out playing his Sesame Street Xbox game and I saw that Cookie Monster was eating a banana. Owen came in to me to tell me he needed a banana. I was sure he just meant to play with it (to mimic what Cookie Monster was doing) and I said no, he didn’t need a banana.
A few minutes later: “Mom…I NEED A BANANA!” I asked if he was going to play with it or eat it—completely expecting him to say play with it—but he said EAT IT! So I said “Are you really going to eat it?” He said yes.
So we went downstairs, I started peeling it for him, handed it to him, and he took a bite like it was the most normal thing in the world and he’s been eating bananas forever. EXCEPT HE’S NEVER EATEN A BANANA IN HIS LIFE (aside from mashed when he was a baby) AND YOU KNOW HOW HE IS ABOUT TRYING NEW FOODS.
I was floored. FLOORED I TELL YOU! And perfectly giddy in my excitement—if we’re being honest.
He only ate about half of it BUT HE ATE IT! Without any coercion! Now to find videos of Cookie Monster eating some veggies!!
*As a sidenote, I really hope he continues to like them because that should help with the poop issues we’re STILL having…

He did pretty well opening presents…except he really loved the first things he opened (Lego Cars and a Ninja Lego) so he wanted to stop right then and play but we made him keep going. 🙂 We did stop about halfway through, though, because he was losing interest and really wanted to play. Which was just fine.
