Bon Jovi concert!

As soon as I saw free tickets for Bon Jovi, I had to get them. I mean Bon Jovi WAS high school. And I know there’s been some stuff since then that I’ve liked. And I’m still trying to do more things outside my box.

But let me say right up front that even though this was a bucket list concert, I was not impressed. /cry

From now on, I’m checking the setlist FIRST. I only knew like 1/3 of the songs! And his voice wasn’t great—plus the sound system seemed off and it was like he was screaming to be heard over the music. And holy hell the people that want to stand for the whole damn thing (I know this argument can go on forever). Ughhhh. But then, maybe I’m just old and cranky. But to be honest it wasn’t just me. We all agreed.

Amazingly, the Eagles last week blew this concert out of the park. I guess they can’t all be winners.

Ugh. Sit. The F. Down.

So I knew I wanted to wear a red, so what better red than my fave no-longer-available Mojave?! Which then called for a slightly more subdued eye, so I went with more earth tones. And my shirt had to be #runsonlipstickandsarcasm!

Brad Paisley!

This is what friendship and love is all about. My friend Cheri invited us to a Brad Paisley concert (at the Hollywood Casino Ampitheatre) because she got four free tickets via VetTix—and Tom isn’t a country fan but he loves me and we all get along so…it happened!

The ride down took forever since it was a Friday heading toward the city, but the time passed quickly and we picked a super delicious place for dinner—Siam Marina. We all shared the:

  • Roll Me Out Crispy Platter — Two of each: Asparagus, Avocado, Crab & Cream Cheese, Seafood, Shrimp, & Thai Chicken Eggrolls
  • Signature Fish Cakes Delight — Chilean sea bass, mahi-mahi, salmon, panko, & served with mustard sauce
  • Calamari Tempura — Calamari rings dipped in tempura batter, served with sweet & sour sauce

I’m apparently an old fogey because it makes me insane that everyone stands up when the concert starts…so you can’t see anything unless you stand up. I don’t want to stand up for that long, thanks. And we were far enough away that you could barely see him on stage anyway…so I just stayed in my seat and watched him on the video monitors! Seriously, I only stood up for the last song and the encore!

Can you see how tiny he is way down there on the bottom middle?

After the concert we got a pic in front of the tour trailer.

As a sidenote, we decided to leave the kids alone all night for the first time (4:30–??). We had a neighbor on alert plus the kids had Anna’s number plus we told them they could have unlimited screen time so we felt pretty good. (It turned out fine! They followed the rules, went to bed when we told them to, and were asleep when we got home at 12:30.)

Guys out and in!

Last night some of the women got together… Tonight we invited everyone over for a fire but just the men came…so Anna and I hung out on the couch and just let the men do their thing. They rotated between the campfire and the bar depending if it was raining.

I told Anna this was my perfect life. Girls hanging out one night, guys hanging out another. Hanging out together. Everyone has a good time. She agreed with me.

So I have an electric scooter.

I’ve forgotten to mention that I now have an electric scooter. It came about quite suddenly around our anniversary. We were at a friend’s house a ways away in the neighborhood and were joking about how it was a little too far to walk to easily and Tom mentioned I should get this scooter that he saw on a deal group. Everyone joked about how awesome that would be so I bought it as an anniversary present!

I will say the first time on it was super scary as I’ve never really even tried one of the kids’ manual scooters, but turns out it’s pretty fun.

Anyhoo, it makes it very convenient to bop down to a neighbor’s house for a quick drink.

You know it’s a good night with the neighbors when…

this is the amount of limes in the sink.

The night started innocent enough. Lindsay said she was out relaxing in her back yard while the kids played and whoever wanted to come down was welcome. Tom was napping and the kids were out and about so I left a note and drove down. Shortly after u arrived, Angela and Ryan showed up (with their two littles) as they were out on a walk.

The margaritas were flowing and I texted Tom that he needed to come with the kids. It took some convincing because he was tired. But I assured him he really did need to show up because the dads were there and this was going to be a good opportunity to meet them all and just hang out and get to know them. So he came. Other neighbors and kids showed up and we ended up ordering pizza!

We even sent Owen home on his Segway to get some fruit from our fridge. He got to feel responsible and we got the fruit so it was win-win.

The littles even did sparklers before we left!
