Joining Owen in bed
Owenisms 45
Out playing in the backyard.
Owen: Mama, close your eyes.
I close my eyes.
Owen: No peeking!
Then he hands me this:
Talking about a time he threw up.
Owen: Remember that time when I was four and ate the pizza?
Me: Yes.
Owen: And we got home and I felt some little throat stuff coming up into my mouth so I ran to the bathroom and then plop.
Getting into bed at night.
Good night darth vader. *KISS* Good night ogre. *KISS* Good night other darth vader. *KISS*
It was raining and thundering.
Owen: Mama, do we have cheddar?
Me: Cheddar?
Owen: Yes, cheddar.
Me: Cheese?
Owen: No! Cheddar! Like on the Doc McStuffins storm show.
Me: Cheddar?! I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Owen: I’ll show you.
I put the episode on. The characters say they have each other.
Owen: See—cheddar!
Me: Ahhhh! EACH. OTHER. Two words. And yes, we have each other.
Owen: I gotta go potty.
Tom: Are you going poop?
Owen: No, pee.
Tom: Isn’t that potty?
Owen: No, pee is pee and poop is poop.
Taco Wednesday
Owen has said he likes the tacos at school so we thought we’d try them at home. I just did regular ground beef with barely a hint of salt and pepper because I’m pretty sure the school doesn’t use any special taco seasoning (and Owen usually complains about things like butter or S&P).
So, we were supposed to have Taco Tuesday but I forgot an ingredient…so we had it tonight!
Success!
I also had him try “nachos”—tortilla chips he loves with the exact same ground beef and cheese and of course he said he liked it but didn’t even finish one chip. GRRR.
Baby steps. Baby steps. After all, he’s eating TACOS!!
I have no idea.
Another hot day, another day in the pool.
Our late (yet still typical) morning
Owen and Katie both slept in this morning, and Owen really didn’t want to get up at all so I had Katie dressed before he even got out of bed…and she was sitting there saying “C’mon Owee!”
“Mama! Take a picture!” So I did and only realized afterwards I had to edit it. 🙂
Then just when I finally had him dressed, she crawls into his bed to pretend to sleep (one of her favorite things).
Our day at the beach!
We are not beach people. Yes, we live somewhat close (45 minutes) so maybe we should be, but we just never go. Things get busy at home on the weekend and it’s a bit of work to go (toys, towels, snacks, drinks, diapers, wipes, yada yada yada) so we end up just staying home. But since we’re moving soon and we know the kids love the beach, we thought we’d treat them! Unfortunately, most of our beach toys were packed away, so we made do with some bath and pool toys, a big bucket, and a kids garden rake and shovel.
Getting dressed in the restrooms.
Tom dug a small hole for Owen and Katie immediately got in it.
Friends of ours happened to be there, too!
Then we took a break and had lunch!
It took a few hours but she was FINALLY super comfortable in the water!
Owen made friends with some kids who were building this.
The kids Owen was with had nets and caught some minnows—and he was holding one!
She’s gotta watch what he’s doing
A showing + a pool + daddy = FUN!
Two kids in the police car
We’ve been debating selling the police car because Owen just never uses it—we practically have to force him to drive it. We mentioned selling it and he kinda freaked out saying he loved it. So we told him if he used it, we’d keep it. It would kill me to get rid of it since it was EXPENSIVE and he WANTED IT…but I hate to move it if he’s not going to use it (since there’s lots fewer places to drive it at the new place). I had hoped Katie would like it, but thus far she’s been mostly scared of it. So Owen got in it today…and had A BLAST. And after watching Owen in for about 20 minutes, Katie wanted to get in…and boy did they have fun.
Helping Katie with the speaker.
Awwwww!
The car was charging so the seats were out—so Katie hauled them around to sit on them.
Then daddy put them up here for a photo op. 🙂

Intrigued by the bubbler
Owen reading…and not.
So this morning he wanted to read his book on his own.
He did pretty good again.
But.
We tried to have him read tonight and he seemingly couldn’t read one single word! What the—?!?!
We know he guesses at words when he’s not sure (instead of sounding them out) but he wasn’t even doing that tonight. The word was can and he’s saying fish or something. WHAAAAA?!
So, this new skill isn’t quite as locked down as I’d magically hoped. 🙂
Missed Mom Art
Apparently I missed giving Owen a kiss when I dropped him off Monday morning, so this was the artwork he wanted to do at school (the MOM was missing and he told me on the way home he had to add my name):
Later in the week, he really missed me again and did this one:
I love my eyelashes and hair. 🙂
Wait. Owen can read?!
Owen pretty much read this entire page to me on his own.
Wait. What?!
When did this happen? We haven’t practiced much reading at all! He’s been doing ABCMouse but I don’t think there’s much (if any) actual reading involved. But he probably read about half the book!
We asked him where he learned how to read and this time it was “at book school next to the DC store” (with DC being where we’re moving).
I’m just floored. Thrilled, but floored.
How Owen helps Katie down the slide
Katie wanted to get off the playset so I kept telling her to go through the tube and down the slide. She wanted me to get her down. No, Katie, through the tube and down the slide. She eventually made it to the slide then just sat there like this, pouting. 🙂
Then Owen “helped” her. Which is basically flinging her down the slide under the guise of holding her hand. And she doesn’t care one bit. 🙂
Giddy up!
I had taken the swinging bars off the playset to hang up the second swing…and Owen co-opted them immediately.

Owen’s first Field Day
Today was Field Day at Owen’s school. I never heard about Field Day until I saw random friends posting on Facebook about their kids’ field days…so figured it must be a new thing since I was in school back in the stone ages. They play organized games (like carry the egg on a spoon) and run around and then eat lunch outside.
Unfortunately it had been rescheduled from being rained out Friday so he missed most of it due to his GI appointment…but he still had fun.
The teacher has my cell number so she texted me these pictures:

Each class wore a different color and Owen’s class (the Tigers) were green.

He said he had a lot of fun and it was funny because Miss Ashley (his teacher) served them lunch. (Apparently this isn’t a normal event.) 🙂
Owen’s last GI appointment!
We hadn’t been in a few months because Owen has been doing well, but we thought we’d better go for one last checkup before we move.
The kids amused themselves while we waited…

And then the doc examined Owen and said everything felt great—and was excited to get a good report on Owen!
I told him we were moving and asked what we needed to do and he said just keep doing what we’re doing—the Miralax every day, the P fruits, and cleanouts as necessary. I asked how long we needed to continue the Miralax regimen if things keep improving and—are you ready?!—he said at least another year or two. Maybe three. EEK! I guess it’s better than the alternative, though…
He also said he’s always here if we want to come back and see him, but he’s sure we could see someone up around DC if we really needed to.
So…YAY OWEN!
Mom! Come look!
Toga!
Sibling Chair Laughing Fun
Siblings having a swinging good time
At an impasse…
Katie was swinging and Owen asked if he could, too. (Of course he doesn’t need to ask but he does.) This wasn’t quite what I expected:

Then he was all about pushing Katie. He’s never really wanted to before…so…YAY!
First, a hug. 🙂

Then a few pushes.

Then he decided to twist her—and OH the fun both of them had!!
More twisting!
Pushing…and getting kicked…and loving it!
Swinging together! He’d get her moving then hop on his own swing!

Finally, Owen twisting himself!
I’m glad they’re enjoying the swings…but why did Owen have to start liking them NOW? A year after we got the playset and a month before we have to sell it? See? The guilt. 🙂
Bug watching
Owen found a roly poly out in his playset and asked if he could bring it up. Of course! Then it fell off the table and Katie got involved…and excited! 🙂
Then Owen had to go put him back so his mom and dad wouldn’t miss him. 🙂
I will never let you go again!
Owen was trying to help Katie up the playset steps.

Right after Tom walks through the frame, you can hear Owen say he’ll never let her go again. Awww.
