Tonight’s pizza!

I’ve been experimenting with pizza dough in the stand mixer so we’ve been having lots of pizza and breadsticks. For pizzas, we often just use whatever leftovers we have…and the kids get cheese or pepperoni. However, tonight we both got leftovers: mac and cheese for the kids (hope they like it) and chimichurri, steak, and pickled onions for us. Of course topped with cheese.

The verdict? Owen loved it, Katie tolerated it. Ours sounded better than it tasted but it wasn’t bad. But unfortunately the crust was overdone (not sure why—I did everything the same as previous times when it turned out).

Katie lost bath privileges for awhile.

After her gardening experience, she was a mess…so she had to get a bath. I had stuff to do upstairs so let her play for a loooong time. The only bath rule is keep the water in the tub. So, needless to say when I walked in and saw this…

…I was NOT happy.

There was water everywhere. All around the outside ledge of the tub, in puddles on the floor, splashed on the wall… So I gave her a towel and she had to dry it all off. Plus she lost bath time for at least a week—she’ll get 5-minute showers only.

DC dinner with friends!

Friends from South Carolina came to DC for the weekend and we grabbed dinner with a bunch of other friends at a pizza place.

Of course, the kids were watching TV. (Guess how old the boy is. Just guess. Nope—he’s 6.5 and in first grade! I know, right? I told you we grow them big. 🙂 )

Owen’s cool crayon sculpture!

As a sidenote. We had a perfect example of why I say I hate people. Parking in downtown DC is always a nightmare, but we were thrilled to realize there was a parking garage right next door to the restaurant. Except some asshat parked next to us in a NON-PARKING spot which necessitated a 23-point turn to exit our space. ‪(Parking is tight in the best of cases, so with him there it was ridiculous.)

Bingo Night

Katie was frustrated that I wouldn’t let her play and stamp the bingo sheets…so I gave her the pizza box. Which kept her busy for a whole 10 minutes.

Pics the principal took (the lights were off so we could see the overhead projector…which made for not-great pics):

We thought Owen won the last game but one of his stamp marks was a little overzealous so he was one short. 🙁

Katie’s eventful walk in the woods.

We all went out for a walk since it was such a nice day. It was also a test for Katie—she always wants to go with me/Owen but it’s two miles and I know she’d want me to carry her…and that ain’t happening. (Daddy usually ends up carrying her so she’s spoiled…but I can’t do it.) So…off we went. Some days she likes to be the Line Leader. Today she wanted to be pokey and hold daddy’s hand.

And before we even completed the first mile, her legs were tired and she wanted to be carried. See?! I knew it! So Tom carried her off and on. And then…she had to go potty. So off they went for her first potty in the woods! Which didn’t go very well and she peed on her pants (but we were almost finished by that point so no biggie).
