Katie’s six-month appointment

Weight: 18 lbs. (was 15 lbs. 15oz.)—between percentile 75 and 90
Length: 28-1/2″ (was 25-3/4″)—99th percentile
Head: 17-1/4″ (was 16-1/2″)—75th percentile

For comparison, at six months Owen was:
Weight: 19 lbs. 7 oz.—so 1 lb. 7 oz more!
Length: 28-1/2″—the exact same length!

The doctor said everything looks great. She was just ever-so-slightly concerned that she hasn’t started solid foods yet, so suggested we try real foods instead of jarred baby foods (like yogurt puffs, grain puffs, mashed potatoes, avocado, etc.) and if she’s still not eating by 9m, then we should see a specialist. But I’m not worried.

She did really well with her shots—hopefully because I dosed her with Motrin before the appointment. She got two vaccinations and a flu shot (with a booster due in 30 days)…then fell asleep when I was halfway through my Sam’s Club trip.

All. Day. Long.

Wow. She really likes to test her voice by screeching and shrieking. It’s cute to a point, but it literally gives me a headache. Here’s a slight example.

So, by the end of the day, I’m really completely over the “cuteness” of the screeching. And Tom—just getting home—gets annoyed with me for getting annoyed with it. I tell him it’s not as cute after you’ve had to listen to it for 11 hours off and on. 😐 He sees everything as no big deal. Which I guess it isn’t WHEN YOU’RE ONLY AROUND TWO HOURS OF IT A DAY. 🙂

Rollin’ rollin’ rollin’!

Katie has started rolling over! It started a day or so ago when she was on her belly when we got her up in the morning—one day happy, one day screaming (when she can’t flip back over). Owen did the same exact thing but got over it in a few days.

So last night we put her to bed—minus the swaddle so she’d have use of her arms to flip herself over if necessary—and hoped for the best. I was just a bit nervous because I was watching her sleep on her stomach—which I know is okay (she’s napped that way before) but it’s still a little nerve wracking thinking about it being the whole night. But it was cute (though we’ve got to get the video camera closer to her to get better pictures like we got with Owen!).

And then tonight I finally caught her actually rolling over!

So, we tried to see Santa.

We tried to go to a USMC family-oriented Christmas party tonight on base. We prepped Owen for sitting on Santa’s lap and for telling Santa what he wanted and everything. He was excited! We didn’t have high hopes of him liking the crowds, etc., so kept our fingers crossed it wouldn’t be too big or too loud.

Nope.

We were fine walking in. It hadn’t officially started yet so people were just milling around. He didn’t want to do any of the crafts except decorate a cookie.

I took him over to where Santa would be to get familiar with it…and he refused to even get near the chair.

Then as soon as the pre-party music started over the loudspeakers, he was done. 🙁 He wasn’t as freaked out as he was at Sesame Street Live (I’m guessing because it wasn’t AS loud) but he was covering his ears and asking to go home. So we packed up and left. Before the event even started. Poor kid.

And now I’m pissed we missed the EFMP (exceptional family member program) Christmas with Santa, which would have been super low-key and perfect. Next year…

Annual Christmas Photo

It’s not too bad for a 10-minute process!! Maggie is the only one not cooperating—well, that and the flash, since I had it set for three-pics-at-a-time and my battery was dying. But it’s still a pretty good pic!

And then when we were done, Owen wanted to take some pictures. So he took this one! (Basically he just pressed the button and the camera did the rest—but he was still proud!)

Big Brother/Little Sister

Now that Owen actually likes Katie, I bought some Big Brother/Little Sister shirts for them to wear in sibling photos (yes, I’m THAT mom)!

First, we just set Katie on Owen and lots of rolling around and laughing ensued.

I love his look—like he’s 16 and saying I’m too cool to be here doing this. Or maybe even Watch it, this is my little sister and I’ll hurt you if you mess with her.

Then some smiles!

And then each kid with their own B. 🙂
