Camera placement FAIL

After dinner I held Katie next to Owen and she kept grabbing at his head and his hair and he was laughing hysterically. I tempted fate by grabbing my phone and quickly trying to set it up to record (I needed two hands to hold Katie) while Owen was still in the mood, so-to-speak. Unfortunately, you can’t see much of Katie, but you can hear Owen’s hysterical laughing.

Today’s parenting fail.

Katie just fell off the couch. From what I saw rushing into the room from 10′ away (I was in the office and she was on the couch), she landed face first on a blanket so wasn’t hurt and only cried for about five seconds (I think of shock more than anything) but of course now I feel horrible. She’s just getting too wiggly/mobile to leave alone—even propped up/locked in with pillows.

Aaaaand it’s my turn.

My throat started hurting Friday night and Saturday I was achy and was thinking I had the flu (especially since I just got the flu shot) so last night Tom looked at my throat and said he thought it might be strep. 🙁

Of course, urgent care was closed (the card I was just given last week with their hours was wrong) so I suffered for the second night but was able to get in first thing this morning. And it was before the drop-off daycare was open so I had both kids with me.

And it wasn’t strep (yay!) but was pharyngitis (ugh). So at least now I have drugs. And hopefully this is the last sickness in the house for awhile…

And again with the pink eye.

Katie’s right eye started to weep again…which is exactly how her pink eye started the last time. We had finished the recommended full five-day course of drops…but apparently it either wasn’t quite enough or she got reinfected. Sigh.

What’s worse is she’s now caught on to the drops and hates them and slams her eyes shut and squirms like the dickens. Poor kid.

A nap schedule!

I think Katie is finally on a nap schedule instead of taking little catnaps all day! She takes anywhere from a 2-4 hour nap at about 9:30, a 1-2ish hour nap in the afternoon around 3 or 4, then goes to bed around 8 and then sleeps until 7. YAY!

(I hope I’m not jinxing myself by writing this.)

Some nights (like tonight) she was in bed before 8 even! When she starts screaming and refusing to eat, we break out the zippered swaddle and she calms right down. Some nights I have to swing her in my arms (if she’s really worked up) but most nights we can just put her in her crib while she’s still awake and she falls asleep peacefully.

She’s SUCH a good baby!

Threenager short term memory

So Katie was sleeping in our room in her swing. We don’t tiptoe around, but we do shut the door and keep Owen out because he just can’t seem to be quiet even when he’s trying. But today he practically begged to go in and I was in there putting clothes away (silently!), so I said he could, but he had to be super quiet and stay away from her. So what does he do? Not 10 seconds after being in the bedroom, walks right over to her and starts messing with a pile of hangers (his “bows and arrows”) and wakes her up.

OMG. You just want to scream WHAT DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT WHAT I TOLD YOU 15 SECONDS AGO?

Jenny outfit, part 2.

Here is the next outfit from my past that Katie got to wear…though, unfortunately, I waited a bit too long and it was too small for her so she just wore it for a few pictures! (I apparently am a very bad judge of sizes—and it’s a homemade outfit so there is no sizing listed—and of course Gramma Jean has no memory of what age I wore it!)

You can see how Owen likes to interfere with the photo shoot. 🙂

Same outfit, same age.

When I was cleaning out the garage last weekend, I pulled out some old outfits of Owen’s that I wanted Katie to wear so I could try and get “matching” pictures. I couldn’t remember the exact age to get them SUPER matching, so today seemed like a good day. And then I went back and found the picture of Owen that I remembered in the outfit (it was one of our favorites!) and imagine my surprise when I counted the days of both and Owen was 3 months 27 days old and Katie was 3 months 28 days old! I couldn’t have planned it much better if I had tried!

Helping, Camping, Playing

Owen was a big help getting Katie inside for my doctor’s appointment today.

It was an OB appointment so I didn’t really want Owen there (the kid certainly doesn’t need to be traumatized like that!), but he’s been a little sick so I couldn’t take him to daycare. Luckily there was a curtain which I turned into a tent and camping experience—which he loved. Phew! Now he’d hopefully be occupied and not see me in the stirrups. 🙂 And he liked peeking out at me.

And of course afterwards he had to play around…
