Thanks Gramma Jean!

There were a lot of firsts for Owen this past weekend…
First (hee!) was his first long car ride—three hours north to Gramma Jean’s for his Grayling baby shower! (We tried to have it before he was born, but time just got away from us, plus it was winter…and we thought people would like to actually see him instead of just seeing me pregnant!)
Second, daddy took care of Owen during the night!! Tom and I slept in different rooms (it’s just very hard for us to both sleep in a double bed when we’re used to a king bed)…so one of us got Owen and one of us got Maggie. Tom was generous and took Owen, since he could sleep in! YAY!
Third, Owen got his first sitting-in-water bath (instead of just being soaped up and rinsed off):

Fourth, Owen had pictures taken outside! With ALL his grandparents! And his Grantie Marge (the name we came up with for Marge, since we couldn’t decide between Grandma Marge and Auntie Marge!)!! And his parents, of course. Since everyone was there for the shower—and it was SUCH a gorgeous day out—we decided (well, I strongly suggested) that we should take pictures outside!!

Fifth, gramma Jean took care of Owen during the night!! I innocently asked if she wanted to and she said sure (that she could nap Sunday)!! OMG! YAY! So we moved the pack-and-play in there (where there was more room anyway :P) and mom and dad both had the chance for a good night’s sleep! Gramma confirmed the next morning that Owen is a little chatterbox all night long…well, not chatterbox so much maybe as a noisebox. 😀
And sixth, after a few weeks of maybe only pooping once every few days, Owen pooped THREE TIMES today! 88|
I had a first, too…after almost a glorious year of no periods (minus about the four weeks of post-delivery bleeding), my period started this morning. XX( Technically I should have been expecting it at any time, even though the books say if you are breastfeeding, it might be a LONG time before you got your period back… but I had just gotten SO used to not having it that it was a big surprise.
Friends of ours in Jacksonville had a bunch of boys clothes she offered to sell us…and we quickly took her up on it! We opted for the 6-18 month batch of clothes, so soon Owen will be outfitted in Old Navy, Ralph Lauren, Carters, Baby Gap, Nautica, Osh Kosh, and Nike… The clothes are SOOOO cute! And the bathing suits! And the sandals!
Thanks Jen!
I have wanted to go into the local Salvation Army just to check it out, but Tom has never wanted to stop. Well, he was finally in the mood today…and wanted to check out the baby clothes. 🙂
Well, as luck would have it, their daily sale was any five blue tags for $5. So we pawed through the many racks of baby clothes and found 10 things. I know we shouldn’t really be buying a ton of clothes, but at $1 a piece, how can you not? We threw in a few extra cute pieces, and went to check out. The cashier gave us the other pieces for $1 each as well, since he said he put boy clothes on sale today and no one had bought any! BONUS!
I am sure we will go back—there was lots of nice stuff, and even stuff with tags. Of course, you do have to look through a lot of stuff to find what you want, but you can’t beat the prices!
We couldn’t resist buying a few things on sale! Sooooo cute! Tom was even getting into the spirit of things!
Well, so much for there being a lot of choice here in the big city. (Granted, I am not looking at high end stores, because we can’t afford that.)
I searched out Motherhood Maternity Plus stores, and was excited about going…I was thrilled that there would be a whole store of plus-sized clothes to choose from!
How wrong I was.
It’s just a regular store with a plus-sized SECTION. And a pathetic section, at that.
Seriously, there were like three racks out of the entire store, and half of it was clearance summer stuff. >:XX We did travel about 6 miles farther to go to a second store, where they did have a few more racks, but still nothing to write home about.
The prices weren’t TOO horribly awful, but I still had a hard time spending $50 on a sweater. And I just hope any future weight gain is in my stomach, and not in the legs or butt—because the jeans (the largest size they carry) just fit.
They do have quite a bit more online, so that’s where I will probably end up shopping if I have to. But in the meantime, I need to search out other maternity stores and hopefully find a few more pieces, otherwise I will be wearing the same two sweaters, two tops, and two pair of jeans for the next three months.
This morning I had my last on-base OB appointment. It was just a quick check-up, really—heard the baby’s heartbeat and the doc warned me about high blood pressure (apparently, it was a bit high again, and I am at the point in the pregnancy when it should be the lowest of all). He said I might have to worry about a few forms of hypertension. Then it was off to medical records to request a copy for the move…but of course I needed Tom’s orders (which I didn’t have) so he has to go back and request them for me.
On the way back to work I stopped at Target just to see what they had in the way of maternity clothes. Ha, funny. They had about six racks, none of which were plus size…so I guess maternity clothes are only for rail-thin people and I will have to wait until we get to Michigan with a wider variety of stores. (Sidenote: I don’t REALLY need maternity clothes yet, but some pants are finally starting to get tight.)
