I’m not voting this year.

Well, turns out I’m not voting this year. 😡

I swear I filled out the necessary stuff online to get the packet because Tom specifically sent me the link. And I didn’t think about it—yes, even with all the political crap and election coverage and primaries—until Tom said he had to mail his ballot in. Wait, what? I didn’t get mine.

So I went back to look to see what exactly I did…and his email was in May, and I went to the website and it looked familiar…except now I see a spot that says “You still need to contact your local voting precinct to register as an absentee voter.” Huh? I definitely don’t remember seeing that. And then I looked at the PDF that I had likely printed—which looked familiar as well—and apparently that had to be sent in somewhere else? Or to my own voting precinct? But then why would I still have to contact them if I mailed this form in? Needless to say I’m still confused.

So the short of it is I didn’t request the ballot and now it’s too late. I should have just called the damn office instead of using the link Tom sent me, because that messed me up. And then Katie came along and my mommy brain got even worse…

I’m bummed.

Heaven help me.

So as you know, Owen pitches a major fit about taking the liquid medicine. So when his temp was still around 101 this morning, I knew I had a fight ahead of me. 😐

And no amount of cajoling was working, so I had to use the syringe because he FLAT OUT refused to take it. He didn’t love the syringe and actually could have made it impossible, but we did it.

So then I remembered we had tiny dissolvable allergy strips (tabs?) that he took really well, and I asked on Facebook if such a thing existed for non-allergies and ended up running to CVS to get some. Except they turned out to be huge chewable tablets and not the tiny super fast dissolving ones (my bad for using the drive-thru and having the pharmacists pick something off the shelf instead of me looking at EVERY option).

Yeah, you can see where this is going…he refused to take those, too. Yes, they look and taste like candy…but he apparently doesn’t like that kind of candy. SERIOUSLY?! But really, I shouldn’t be surprised.

So it was another fight, with me telling him he had to pick one or the other. And he chose the liquid!! And it was still a fight. With tears and snot and drool and the whole nine yards (including lots of I’m not happys! thrown in for good measure). And as soon as it’s over, he’s happy and laughing like nothing ever happened.

Breathe. Breathe. Breathe.

Owen is still sad.

Owen seemed to be doing better after his nap and was enjoying playing games with daddy. His temp was still hovering around 100 so we decided to wait and medicate him at bedtime.

He had a light dinner of toast with peanut butter and yogurt, and things seemed fine. Then it was time for medicine…which is always a bit of a fight. It took some time and cajoling and a bit of mess, but he finally took it. And as Tom was in with him washing his hands (I did say it got messy!) he barfed up everything.

Whether it’s psychological and he hates taking the medicine so he throws up…or whether him fighting us on it riles up his stomach…or whether the medicine itself actually makes him queasy…it’s not the first time it’s happened.

Of course, his response was “I’m sad.” 🙁

After that, however, he seemed perfectly fine and was running around like normal. We did make him take more medicine (since he threw up literally 60 seconds after he finished taking the last dose, he obviously had nothing in his system) and that stayed down.

We’re hoping tomorrow goes better.

Sidenote: We reconfirmed that I deal better with poop and Tom deals better with vomit. We make a good pair. 🙂

Someone is sad.

So Owen was eating a snack of apples and peanut butter and I was on the computer when I hear him say he needs a wipe. Okay, fine. That’s normal.

I go out there and he has thrown up his apples and peanut butter all over the place—on himself, his B, the blanket he was sitting on, a stuffed animal toy… He was just sitting there looking totally dejected and says “I’m sad.” 🙁

I hadn’t heard any ruckus, so I asked if he had choked on the apples and he said yes. He didn’t seem totally confident, so I asked if his stomach hurt and he said yes. So who knows what really happened.

He felt warm so I took his temp: 101.7. EEK! Talk about feeling completely clueless…he’s only been sick like twice so I didn’t really even know what to do! He seemed fine overall so I just let him lay on the couch and drink water. I waited a bit and took his temp again because I figured he might have just been hot and sweaty from throwing up (I know it happens to me—and I was using one of those forehead thermometers and it said if you were sweaty it might misread). I took it like 20 minutes later and it was down to 100.

Poor kid.

Morning Owenisms

Owen: This is a volcano race car.
Me: Volcano?
Owen: Yeah, it’s got lava on it!

Mom, I’m going to school. There’s the bus!

Mom, when you see the star, say star. [He hides the plastic star and slowly moves it into sight.]

[After pooping in the potty] Mom, sing the song!

These race cars are flashing. They need flashing for speed.

Mom, what was that? I’m going to find out.

Watch! I’m going to make some noises! [Presses button on a new toy to start the sound.] Awesome! [He hands Katie’s to her.] We’re sharing! I’m sharing with Katie!

[Watching Sesame Street] Those are grapes! I like grapes.

Interesting Statistics

Just for shits and giggles, this morning I decided to look at some of the website statistics. I know it doesn’t get a lot of traffic since it’s really just a friends and family website (and mostly family at that), although I do publish links to Twitter, where anyone can see them…but I found a few interesting things.

  • This week there have been 82 visits and 168 page views. I wonder just who is reading the blog, since that’s obviously more than family.
  • The countries that have visited my site this month? United States of America (96.95%), Canada (2.44%), and Poland (0.61%). Poland?
  • I got a referral from a page called Payday Links which has a link to my old page of retail customer rants (which is no longer published, but may be again some day when I get time).
  • Two search engines brought people to the site: images.google.com (80%) and bing.com (20%).
  • People searched the keywords “kid belly button” and “snoring animals” on Google to get here. Huh? I did those same searches just to see what comes up, and my site is nowhere that I can see.
  • The top three browsers used are Firefox (38%), Safari (26%), and Chrome (16%).

Dancing fool(s)

I was playing music in the kitchen while I was getting dinner ready. Tom and Owen came down and Owen heard the music and said “I have to dance!”

I told Tom to start recording (because my phone was on the dock playing music) and we got this…Owen was copying everything I did and it was hilarious—especially the robot.

After, when it was time to eat, I pulled out his robot placemat and asked “Do you want your robot?” and he said “I JUST DID THAT!” 🙂

Trying to build

We happened to be at Lowe’s when they were having the kids building clinic, so Tom and Owen attempted to build the creepy crawly monster box.

Owen doesn’t like loud sounds, so everyone hammering was a bit too much for him…and the project was a little too difficult for attempting in that situation. So when we got home they built it and here’s the finished product.

Laundry is cool.

Owen noticed the seat to Katie’s jumper was missing and asked where it was. I told him it was in the washing machine—so of course he went to look…but the room was dark so he says “I have to turn the lights on!”

After he turned it on, he went to stand in front of the machines—both of which were spinning. He just stood there and looked back and forth (technically up and down) between the two a few times then simply stated “Cool.”

Candyland

First, the board is hideous compared to the one I grew up with. I’m surprised it doesn’t cause seizures it’s so bright and busy.

Second, Owen didn’t catch on NEARLY as fast as I thought he would. Talk about frustrating.

Third, he legitimately won all the games, and every time he won he wanted me to “come to the castle” with him (the end): “WE WON! WE BOTH WON!”

Fourth, he was much more interested in playing with the pieces post-game than he was actually playing the game. The pieces were jumping around (“Boing! Boing!”), they were bad guys, they were family, and they walked all over the living room.

And playing “treat game” with daddy:

Mama, play pancakes!

Owen asked me to play pancakes. Yes, that’s exactly what I thought—HUH?

Me: We don’t have any pancakes.
Owen: Play pancakes.
Me: Do you want me to read Tyler Makes Pancakes! (a favorite book of his)?
Owen: No! Play pancakes! /claps hands together/
Me: OH! PATTY CAKE!

Yes, I’ve been doing patty cake with Katie for awhile now, and obviously Owen has been paying attention.
