Katie loves clothes…

Especially putting on other people’s things! She had a BALL in Owen’s shirt today. She’d pull it on over her head but be in the arm hole—and she’d scream. So you’d pull it over her head and leave the arms out—and a few minutes later both arms would be in just fine. Then she’d get stuck taking it off—and she’d scream again. It would be annoying if she wasn’t so cute.

Playing TiVo

I sent Owen upstairs to get something for me and he wasn’t coming back…wasn’t coming back…wasn’t coming back. I yelled up asking what he was doing. He finally comes down the stairs and says:

Owen: I was playing TiVo!
Me: [A little scared.] What does that mean?
Owen: I’m playing with the TiVo antennae.
Me: Ahhhh. [I introduced him to them a few days ago.]

Get off my lawn!

F the unknown neighborhood kids who rang the doorbell TWICE (because god forbid I didn’t get there in 10 seconds) and woke Katie up. And what did the three of them want?

Girl 1: Looking around and apparently off into space.
Girl 2: gigglegigglegiggle
Girl 3: “We’re offering dog-walking, do you have a dog?”

Sorry kids, if you want to offer a business like that at your young ages, you’d better have more to offer than that. No introduction, no names, no where they live, no paper with information… I almost asked “Do your parents know you’re out here doing this, and can I have their number to talk to them?”

Seriously. Parents let their kids out to do stuff like this?

I’m not so much of a curmudgeon that I mean they need to have a complete business plan or anything—and I’m all for letting kids experiment and do stuff on their own—but if you really want me to let you take care of one of my pets and you are serious about the venture, you had better damn well at least give me some more information. ESPECIALLY if I have no idea who you are.

GET OFF MY LAWN!

:p

My first substitute husband job!

Thank heavens for friends! (I could actually say that a lot, but today it’s about Roger coming to look at the sink.) 🙂

At first he was afraid it was inside the faucet with the hot water lines—which would require a plumber—but then he said “Hey, let me check this quick…”

And bingo! It was the pull-out handle—it was loose and the water was dripping from there. A quick tighten and it’s fixed (and he could find the tool he needed right away thanks to Tom organizing everything before he left!). He also moved the hose to a less-constricted space (away from the dishwasher line) so it’s easier to pull when necessary (and will create less stress on the part).

I never would have thought to check that, but now I know if it happens again!

Phew! I was envisioning $$$ for a plumber and/or $$$ for a new faucet.

And I think it’s pretty good that I didn’t need a fill-in hubby until a month in to the deployment! 🙂

What a morning.

I’ve been up since 6:30 when Katie started screaming.

The cats have barfed three times.

Katie made a terrific mess out of bananas and granola bars.

I discovered my kitchen sink has been leaking for who knows how long and I haven’t the first clue how to fix it (so am hoping a friend can come over). All the towels stored underneath were soaked.

Owen pooped his pants (the first time since the hospital) and then filled the toilet with about a half roll of TP trying to wipe (zero success, BTW).

And Katie won’t stop screaming when I’m out of her sight.

Owenisms 27

Driving into town, Owen saw a John Deere.
Owen: Gramma Jean has that at her house!

We were talking about babysitters and I asked who his babysitters were.
Owen: I got no idea.
Me: Yes, you do.
Owen: I don’t!
Me: Miss Virginia.
Owen: Yes!
Me: Who else?
Owen: Amy! And Miss Hailey [Amy’s daughter].
Me: You’re right!
I thought we were done, but a few moments later…
Owen: And papa and Grannie!

Watching and responding to Bubble Guppies.
BG: What kind of dinosaur are you?
Owen: I’m an Owen!

Owen: If I break this puppet, Santa will bring me a new one.
Me: Are you sure?
Owen: Yes!
Me: Just because you break a toy doesn’t mean Santa will bring you a new one.
Owen: Then he’ll fix it with his Santa glue.

Owen was playing with his rubber snake. He wrapped it around his eyes.
Owen: She’s my eye cape.

Owen used to love when we’d do serpentine in the car on the way home. (“Serpentine” is from the movie Cars so of course he loved it.) But now?
Me: Owen, do you want me to serpentine?
Owen: No, because you might hit the trees…or the bushes…or the truck…or the boys…or the girls…or the adults. I just want to go home.

After two full plates of strawberries, cheese balls, and cocoa almonds:
Owen: Mama, can I have more snack?
Me: More?
Owen: Yes! My belly is still snoring.

Owen: I love my new shoes! They’re my matchbox shoes!
Me: Matchbox? Like your cars?
Owen: Yes! Because they go fast!

My little Superman!

Since Owen loves dressing up so much—and loves super heroes—I got him this new costume. When he saw it (in the package) he says “Do I have to poop for that?” Hee. Everything he sees that’s for him he asks if he has to poop for it. 🙂 So I said yes! It wasn’t long before he earned it!

He had a little trouble getting it on the first time…

School, Day 2

They were still lining up from outside play when I got there, and they call in individual kids if their parents arrive (some kids are all-day-ers) so Owen got called in. Then they have to wash their hands.

Waiting his turn:

His turn (I told him he doesn’t really need the stool but he wanted to use it):

Post-school report:

(When he’s talking about the sandcastle, he’s talking about a Bubble Guppies episode.)

By the time we got home he forgot all about it.

Patient Dog

Usually it’s a round-robin: Maggie lays down, Katie notices and heads over and gets in, Maggie begrudgingly leaves, Katie gets bored and leaves, Maggie returns, Katie returns, Maggie leaves…

But this morning Maggie stayed. 🙂

Owen’s bedtime storytelling

Owen was telling me stories as he was getting ready for bed, so I turned on the camera. First he’s talking about a Sophia the First episode in which Baileywick (the castle’s butler) gets a red rash and “pumpkin head” from touching Mettlesome Myrtle (though it’s not really a pumpkin head…just very red puffy cheeks):

Then he talks about reading, a new book, two new ideas (the Doc-mobile Tour, from Doc McStuffins), and then Sesame Street talking about Elmo and the word of the day. Phew!

The ending kills me.
