This was taken a few nights ago, but it could realistically be ANY night. :))
It’s pretty long (about 6:20), but I just wanted to give you an idea of what he does every night. He generally always starts with kicking the musical aquarium (turning it on/off/on/off/on ad nauseum, which you can actually see in the very first seconds of the video), then he starts moving and rotating, starting the 180, he grabs the burp cloth, he wiggles, he kicks, he continues the 180, he kicks, he rolls on his side, he pauses, he sucks the burp cloth, he completes the 180 and moves on to a 360, he whips the burp cloth over his face, etc… Eventually, he passes out (although I didn’t catch that this time)—sometimes it’s in five minutes, sometimes it’s 20. But it’s always cute and fun to watch!
Tonight we decided to try having Owen sit in the high chair (for the first time!) while we ate dinner—then figured as long as he was there, we’d try some real food again, letting him play in it if he wanted. He had carrots (again) and broccoli (new). He definitely didn’t like the broccoli:
—and (again) wasn’t thrilled with the carrots. He didn’t really even want to play in the food much—go figure, he puts everything in his mouth except for the things we WANT him to put in his mouth! But, he still opens his mouth when he sees the spoon coming, so he wants to eat…we just have to find something he likes! He was cute playing with the spoon, though:
We have many videos of Owen blowing raspberries (or blowing bubbles) since he’s been doing this for quite some time…but this is the first video where we got him up close—and condensed in a short video!
We decided to try oatmeal, since some people said that it might go over better than rice. We’re not entirely sure, but it looks like he might have done a little better with it… You be the judge!
A mom in my group had a similar one of these for her baby who loved it! Of course, I was interested, and she said it was from Babies R Us. Well, of course we don’t go there unless we HAVE to (it’s close and convenient, but very small and not a big selection)…so when we were walking through the baby aisles at Target last night (as we do every time we hit Target) and saw this one (it’s a Baby Einstein Bendy Ball)….well, we just put it in the stroller with Owen to see if he would like it—and he played with it the entire time! So, of course, we bought it!
He has many other rattle-type toys meant for grabbing, but this is the first one he has actually grabbed on to and played with. :>> It is very sturdy and actually a little heavier than I anticipated by just looking at it—I was worried it might be too heavy for him to pick up (since we had never really seen him pick up anything before) but he manages with no problems!
The doc gave us the okay, so we tried it! And???? Not so much. Well, we weren’t sure if it was the rice so much as the spoon or texture he didn’t like, LOL. So we mixed it in his bottle (a mere teaspoon) and…we will see what happens sleep-wise. And we will try more rice tomorrow!
Since it was a gorgeous day, we all headed to the park! Most of his outfit is made up of pieces I bought from my friend Jen in Jacksonville…the Nautica sweatshirt, Ralph Lauren cap, and gray sweatpants!
NOTE: Well crap, I originally made this video private, but then people were having problems viewing it… I didn’t really want everyone in the world able to see this—there’s nothing really bad or TMI about it, it just didn’t need to be published worldwide. Oh well. 🙂
So today I re-discovered the video camera Tom had with him when we were at the hospital. (I say re-discovered because it’s a tiny thing and we hardly ever use it because we use the video mode on the digital camera. It was in a drawer, and I happened to run across it and check out what was on it.)
Imagine my surprise when there were videos of me and Owen…not THE birth, but shortly after the birth.
They brought a tear to my eye.
And what stands out? Me saying “This is not real. I do not have a baby.”
Stay tuned for some clips (when I get time over the next few days while grandparents are here).
Here is what Owen looked like this morning when I went in to check on him! Obviously I didn’t swaddle him tight enough during his 5am feeding/diaper change! So cute!
And then this is what happened the next time I went in, when I heard him making noise…just listen to the noise when he sucks his fingers!
And then this is what we looked like after mom had her shower and Owen was dressed (Go State!)!
And of course he was totally adorable this morning, because he was a total PITA at 4am when I got up to feed him. Fussed and squawked and fought me every step of the way when I tried to lay him down again. Ugh.
But the good thing? He slept about 7.5 hours. ❗
But the bad thing? He went down EARLY—at 8:30!—and we weren’t tired at all, so we didn’t go to bed until almost 10:30…so I really only got about 5 hours of sleep. |-|
But wait. I didn’t even get that much, because we had the windows open trying to cool down the house (since it got to 80° yesterday) and it started blowing so fiercely about 1:30am that it woke me up and kept me up (along with hearing Little Mr. Noisemaker down the hall in his room—we left his door open and opened his window to cool it off, since it was 78° in there when we put him to bed…plus having his door open let the noise travel much easier).
Then I started worrying that maybe it was too cool in his room or it was too noisy with the window open—and maybe he was making noise because he really was hungry (he had been sleeping 5.5 hours at that point, after all)—so after tossing and turning for 20 minutes thinking about it, I finally got up and shut his window. Oh, and he had fallen asleep again so he really wasn’t hungry.
Of course, then I probably didn’t fall asleep for another half hour. And then guess who wanted to eat at 4am? And then wouldn’t go down? And then finally went down about 5am? And then guess who was up bright and early, totally wide awake and cooing away at 6:30am??
As this video is almost five minutes in length, I am not sure anyone other than grandparents will watch more than the first minute or so. And sorry it’s grainy, but the original videos totaled over 120MB and I wanted to get it down under 20MB.
Sometimes, you just want to scream. Mostly when a bunch of little things irritate you within a short period of time.
Like today.
It was raining, which was a pain in the butt for running errands with the boy. Normally no big deal, but it was the start of things.
The sections of couch will NOT stay in place, and I am constantly moving them back where they should be. We thought the carpet piece would help, but it doesn’t. Again, this is not a big deal, but it happens day after day after day after day after day…
Things are constantly falling in between the sections—today, it was my cell phone (twice) which I try to keep near me at all times. Sometimes I put it in the basket (which houses most of my day-to-day essentials) but I had just set it down because Tom had called.
Charlie, my lover lap kitty, wanted attention at the same time I was feeding Owen, and she would not leave me alone.
Of course, when I say “feeding Owen” I mean ATTEMPTING to feed Owen, because he was being supremely fussy and wiggly and although he was hungry (he was giving me the snorting cry) he would not settle down enough to actually eat.
I decided to try and watch a Netflix movie that has been sitting here for over a week—and normally it’s no big deal to watch something on TV. I mean, I watch TV on a daily basis with the kid awake and/or feeding him or whatnot. But not today, apparently. After having to rewind the movie three times in the first five minutes…I gave up.
Oh, and I have kept forgetting to reprogram the remote, so when you hit “watch DVD” everything changes correctly EXCEPT the receiver, which doesn’t get the correct sound input…normally not a big deal, except I had JUST sat down to feed the boy, and he was being cranky and the cat was nudging me for attention and I had just dropped my phone between the couch sections…so I got up (keeping the bottle in his mouth—a feat in itself!) and fixed the sound, got myself reseated on the couch, and then noticed…
I had dropped both burp cloths AND the boppy (both of which I need during feeding).
In the meantime, Owen has cranked it up two notches and was SCREAMING but REFUSING to eat.
And on top of all this, I have apparently forgotten how to deal with a period and I will leave it at that.
ARRRRRGH!!!!!!
So I put the boy in his crib (well, pack-and-play), gave him a pacifier, turned his mobile on…and that seemed to be the answer.
In the resulting quiet, I was able to clean up the kitchen a bit (including put away most of my Target bags from this morning), change the laundry, and just sit and enjoy the silence.
And I just realized I could have been watching the movie this whole time. |-|
I have been wanting to write about this guy ever since we moved here, but I’ve just never gotten around to it…that, and I never quite knew how I would describe him and what he does/looks like.
Well, today, someone forwarded me a video of him—and I about died laughing. It’s spot on.
This guy stands out on the street corner at a major intersection and does karate moves/acts like a ninja to his boom box (which he always has with him). He is always shirtless, is an ex-marine, and goes by the name Radio. There’s not much more I can say, so just watch the video!!
