It gets me every time.

I finally caught it in time! This is what Owen does EVERY time this scene from Tangled comes on. When you see him cover his face towards the end, that’s when Pascal (Rapunzel’s chameleon) covers his eyes as the two characters lean in to kiss. I tear up each time I watch this.

After it was over (and of course after I’d stopped recording) he said “Mama! I singed to you!”

When we watched the movie a second time, I tried to grab his hand early and he said “No! Not yet!” 🙂

When I was replaying the video for Tom (while Owen was sitting there) Owen took BOTH our hands and sang to both of us. NOT A DRY EYE IN THE HOUSE…

It’s a Christmas tree!

Owen has been WAITING and WAITING for us to put up the tree.

Yesterday he helped me clean out the room to make space for it…and his second question this morning after his usual “Where’s daddy?” was “Where’s the Christmas tree?”

This was the unboxing:

And this is him trying to wake up the tree (since we told him it was sleeping):

I wonder what he’ll do when we eventually get a REAL tree?!

Police car in action!

We got Owen’s police car out today with the hopes that he’d like driving it since it’s been awhile. And he did! I had Katie in the stroller walking up and down the street in front of our house while Owen drove along with us.

It was actually a little slow, so we had a “pit stop” so Tom could remove the speed regulator—now Owen can zip along at a 4mph clip! He was SO excited to be able to go fast!

Now we just have to get him to understand he has to stay close to us and LISTEN to us when we yell at him to stop!

Typical Threenager Tantrum

All I wanted to do was to get him dressed to go shopping.

This is typically what we get during an Owen tantrum—and I guess it’s not so much a tantrum as a power struggle. I did wait a bit longer than I normally would because I was recording it…but this is the gist of what happens—complete with eye-crossing. Of course, as soon as I stopped recording and he was dressed, he was all happy like nothing happened.

Dancing fool(s)

I was playing music in the kitchen while I was getting dinner ready. Tom and Owen came down and Owen heard the music and said “I have to dance!”

I told Tom to start recording (because my phone was on the dock playing music) and we got this…Owen was copying everything I did and it was hilarious—especially the robot.

After, when it was time to eat, I pulled out his robot placemat and asked “Do you want your robot?” and he said “I JUST DID THAT!” 🙂

Candyland

First, the board is hideous compared to the one I grew up with. I’m surprised it doesn’t cause seizures it’s so bright and busy.

Second, Owen didn’t catch on NEARLY as fast as I thought he would. Talk about frustrating.

Third, he legitimately won all the games, and every time he won he wanted me to “come to the castle” with him (the end): “WE WON! WE BOTH WON!”

Fourth, he was much more interested in playing with the pieces post-game than he was actually playing the game. The pieces were jumping around (“Boing! Boing!”), they were bad guys, they were family, and they walked all over the living room.

And playing “treat game” with daddy:

Racing!

Maggie was running along the fence with the next-door neighbor’s dog (the first time they’ve “met” since the renters moved in about two months ago) and Owen was playing with the pool as Tom was emptying it and dismantling the pump, etc. But then Owen noticed the dogs running (racing!) and had to get involved. If you listen closely you can hear him announce Maggie as the winner.

Last day in the pool!

The pool water is pretty dirty—and draining as we sit here—but he was desperate to go in. And since it’s 75 today we figured he might as well get in one last hurrah!

Then he had to get in the tiger. HAD TO! He wanted help but I always have him try things by himself first…and he did it!

After I stopped recording, of course he got cuter—bouncing around saying Howdy pardners!

Let’s go build!

Lately Owen has enjoyed playing with his building blocks and wants you to come build with him.

He built this dragon…

After his nap, it was back to building…and I attempted a totem pole—and it was obviously good enough because he guessed it! Then I just recorded him playing (yes, it’s a little long, but it’s mostly for the grandparents). 🙂

Then I built Owen a robot and he looked at it and said “He’s wearing a diaper!”

You’re not happy!

Well apparently Owen is pooping in the potty but refuses to admit it, even when we’re both looking at it. It’s not full poops, but rather the big squished pieces that basically fall out from between his cheeks…but they’re in the toilet so I’m happy! But I am flummoxed as to why he won’t admit it. He actually vehemently denies it (telling me “You’re not happy!” even though I tell him I’m very happy)…until I say we can go pick a toy. 😐

From utter frustration to melting heart in five minutes…

Look what happened when I left him alone for 10 minutes today…

SERIOUSLY?! UGH.

I told him I wasn’t happy because he made a mess—and that he shouldn’t take Katie’s clothes out of her drawers, but reasoning with a toddler is pointless at best. I also told him he had to help me pick it all up, so he handed me a few pieces and then he was done. 😐 I didn’t even have the energy to finish dealing with it right then…but he’ll definitely be helping me pick it all up later.

Of course, he followed it up with something super cute…but I was still fuming a bit over the mess.

And THEN he does something super sweet…Katie was crying so he grabbed the bottle and started to feed her.

Ahhh, life with a toddler. From utter frustration to melting heart in five minutes…
