A buddy!

The almost 4yo neighbor kid (I’ve talked to his mom a few times) and his mom were walking by when Owen was playing in his police car and the little boy desperately wanted to play with it. I invited them into the yard and the boys proceeded to play together amazingly for close to an hour while her and I chatted at the edge of the road. It was a riot—Owen just let the kid drive because he doesn’t really want to do it himself. Then they’d take a break and run around the yard chasing each other. The mom reprimanded her son for pulling on Owen’s shirt while they were playing—and I thanked her, but had to tell her that he actually LIKES that…and then she saw what I meant when Owen backed up close to the little boy again, waiting for him to grab his shirt again! (Oops! I guess that was a bad game to teach him!) Then they got out the bucket of bubbles. Then it was back to the police car, with one driving and one chasing. Back and forth, back and forth. Owen had a BLAST, laughing and screeching (even though he doesn’t look thrilled in this picture). It was awesome to see…and I hope they come down to play again!

“Christmas” Morning

We had “Christmas” this morning (since Owen won’t know the difference) so Santa could give him the train table…and he LOVED it! (We were sure he would, but you just never know.)

He is also really into opening presents now, and thinks every wrapped present is his. Soooo cute!

Also, Owen is now in 5T pants. Some 4Ts still fit, but they’re a little tight in the butt and thigh area.

Lastly, we got a decent family photo in the first session of 20 pics! (And of course, Owen looks the best!)

And with his stocking!

I told him a toy wasn’t his.

Quite some time ago, I bought a duplicate Cars Mack Hauler in case something happened to his. Well, he found it in a box in the garage—and needless to say he wanted it…and was a little upset when he couldn’t have it. The whining had already been going on for a minute or so before I started recording.

He’s making connections!

Tonight we were headed to a friend’s house for dinner and Owen already had three cars in his hands and wanted to take two other toys and you could tell he was a bit confused as to just how he was going to make it work. So I told him to put everything in his basket—assuming I’d come back in a few minutes and have to actually do it myself. So imagine my surprise when I saw him standing at the front door…holding his basket…with all his cars and toys in it! I asked Tom if he had helped him and he said no. So Owen understood what I said and actually made it happen! YAY OWEN!

Then as soon as we pulled up at our friend’s house, he says “[Vir]ginia’s house!”

Also, over the past few days when he says he wants to go outside (or if we’re getting ready to go for a car ride) he will start saying shoes and coat and head off to find them. He even managed to get his Crocs on by himself!

Owen’s Personalized Train

So back in Michigan, I took advantage of a deal (Groupon or Living Social or something) for wall art for Owen’s room. They had lots of cool stuff, but since they were a fairly new company, they were offering personalization services for free—so I took advantage and had them design Owen’s name into a train. They actually emailed me three samples, I combined them into something else, and that’s what I ordered. We knew we’d wait until we were moved into the next house before we put it up…and it happened to be our old house in North Carolina. We had originally planned to put it in his bedroom, but there just wasn’t room once we got everything set up…so we decided to put it in his playroom…and he LOVES it. When he saw it, he was so excited—saying CABOOSE! CABOOSE! and then saying the letters of his name!

At daddy’s softball game!

Well, actually it was softball… Tom called to tell me he was in a pickup softball game if we wanted to come. It was a gorgeous day and Owen was up from his nap, so off we went. And Owen was REALLY excited about the whole thing—he just kept hopping around saying BASEBALL! BASEBALL! BASEBALL! and was ever MORE excited when someone handed him an actual softball to carry around! Of course I didn’t capture the best parts, but I did get some to give you an idea.

And then running the bases with daddy after the game!

Hiding!

He loves playing in/around/with our neighbor’s tree (between our driveways) and this is one of his favorite hiding spots!

I posted it on Facebook, and enjoyed the comments…

Jeremy R => Who’s hiding? The tree??? I don’t get it. 😉
Steven N => Needs a bigger tree… 😉
Therese K => Awesome for the seeker!
Christine V => wow, you can’t even see him!

Someone doesn’t like the new rules.

We have probably 50 apps (half of them paid for) for Owen on the iPad, but ever since he discovered Tom’s games, he throws a shit fit (probably 75% of the time) if I try to get him to play his own age-appropriate games. It’s getting to the point where we’re going to delete our stuff or take it away from him entirely.

And it’s not so much that Tom’s games are going to scar him for life or anything, but rather that they’re more complicated and Owen gets frustrated because they don’t “work” for him or he opens up the website or tries to buy the full version of a free app or whatever. AND we paid money for apps he loved until he found the other ones. KIDS!

Initially we had our apps on separate pages in separate folders, but it didn’t take him long to figure out how to open other folders and swipe to get to other pages (where our stuff is).

So I decided we’d just have new rules. He can play anything on the first page and in his folders. Anything else, and the iPad gets taken away. And we had to start somewhere… This video comes in after I’ve already explained it once and he was already getting worked up. I know, poor kid. Having to follow rules. :>>

And with most of his tantrums, it was over about as soon as it started when he got sidetracked by wanting to watch Pocoyo or play with his trains or something.
