Owen’s new hat
I love this boy.
Playing dead
Owen had early release today so after setting up for the book fair, I took the kids to the playground. Owen was running around playing by himself and I watched him do this.
I asked later what he was doing and he said playing dead. He was playing war. 🙂
Katie and the acornsÂ
We were wasting time waiting until we could start helping set up for the book fair…and Katie was having a blast collecting acorns.
Katie’s reward for going on errands
We were dropping off homemade soup to friends so stopped at the playground in their complex. She was a happy girl!
More puddle fun!
No puddles on the uphill road but he gave a jump anyway.
T-Ball Opening Ceremonies
Tom helped Owen get dressed for the opening ceremonies! I’m not sure who was more excited.
Owen was hamming it up in the mirror. Please excuse the disaster of a room. (We’ve been getting the downstairs ready for a dinner party so lots of stuff is being dumped in our room!)
Doing a little fielding practice with his coach.
We have to bring a ball for Katie to play with—she loves to play catch and she’s actually pretty good!
Running the bases just for the fun of it.
He had his tongue out in lots of the pictures!
The T-ball teams were the last to walk in.
All the teams lined up (all teams from all age groups):
And then it was back home to clean for our dinner party…and to get ready to go back to the fields for Owen’s game at 1:30!
Reading interrupted
Puddle Jumper!
I promised Katie she could jump in the puddles when we came out of the store. She was having sooooo much fun I just let her keep jumping and jumping and jumping. My quick run to the dollar store morphed into over an hour once the jumping was done (she was jumping for almost half an hour!)!
I couldn’t decide on the best in-flight pics—it’s amazing how high she actually jumps (which you can’t tell just watching in real time)—so I included all of them. 🙂
If you just want the slow motion jumps in one video:
And if you want them as individual gifs you can copy and paste elsewhere:
Light saber battle!
Katie is a force to be reckoned with.
My zombie guard.
And Katie pouting.
Sidewalk chalk paint, Day 2
They weren’t nearly as excited as they were the first day, and I’m not sure why. (They were eager enough to WANT to do it, but once we were outside and painted for 10 minutes, they were about done.) And of course, since they stayed perfectly clean the first day, I didn’t make them change into different clothes…and it’s the day Katie got paint all over her.
So I pretty much did all the painting just so it wouldn’t be wasted.
T-ball practice!
It was sunny but windy and chilly.

Katie: Mama, look at that pillow on the floor.
Me: ???
Another T-ball mom: The base.
Me: Ahhhhh.

Enjoying some cuddle time.

They learned the different positions, practiced some fielding, and each had a practice at-bat:
Tom was helping on the field and said it was like herding cats. Yep, that was exactly what I had been thinking. 🙂

They have had five scheduled practices. Owen missed one due to our vacation and two have been canceled due to weather…so he will be playing his first game only having had two practices. It’s going to be a HOT MESS. 🙂
Kitchen Lego Battle
A bunch of Owen’s Legos migrated to the kitchen counter… He said they were having a battle.
Playground during spring break
She can finally—most of the time—make it up the tube herself!

Katie roars!

He LOVES his t-ball stuff.Â
As soon as he walked in the door…
Puzzle Queen
This was a totally new set of puzzles. I showed her how one set matched and she did the rest with very little help. (Sorry about the beeping in the background.)
Owen’s first T-ball practice
He actually missed the first practice since we were on vacation, but this was HIS first practice. He was VERY excited.
Running the bases before practice!
The ages of the team are 5/6 but Owen is honestly a full foot taller than most of them! Most of the kids are about the size of Katie!! (I think there’s another age 5/6 team but it’s for kids that have previous experience.)
Katie was a great cheerleader! “Owen, good job practicing. Keep practicing with daddy! Good practicing!”
Throwing drill:
Katie does whatever her big brother does—she was throwing pine cones at the fence just like Owen was throwing balls at the fence!
Getting their team hats and shirts! They’re the Raptors!
Fun with Atlanta friends!
We stopped to see our good friends in Atlanta. It was actually Bodi’s 6th birthday weekend, so they had a bounce house set up for the party the next day and the kids had fun in that! (It was also a Ninja Turtle-themed party, so that’s what the masks and weapons are for.)
But first, the boys about 4.5 years ago (November 2010):
And today…
Last trip to the beach!
Looking up at a plane going by. We saw lots of jets and planes and helicopters the whole week!
She didn’t go in the water much, but when she did, she did some STOMPING and SPLASHING!
The one thing she liked to do? Throw shovels full of sand into the water. Yes, kids are strange.
And a fun screenshot I saw while I was editing the video:
It was impressive watching the beach guys carrying in the chairs in the evening.
Post-kite fun on the beach!
The kids’ first kite!
Cookie Monsters and playing catch on the beach!
Showing Gramma Jean how to play a game
Playing catch on the beach
The kids like the pool better than the ocean.
Night flyers and breaking rules
I had bought these night flyer toys back when we had a big yard (as they can fly up to 200′) but never used them—and our house isn’t really conducive to anything more than 10′—so figured a beach vacation would be the perfect opportunity. 🙂 Tom thought we should do them in the parking lot so they didn’t end up as garbage in the ocean…but after about 10-15 minutes or so, someone came out and told us we couldn’t do it in the parking lot due to liability. Whatever. We were pretty much done by then so we just went inside. But the kids LOVED them and had a great time!
