I was in heaven.

Today we went to a friend’s BBQ (t-ball/40th birthday party)—they have a super awesome house with a great deck and huge back yard. So I spent the afternoon listening to dance 80s music with a cool breeze blowing while I sat in the shade. The kids all played happily. I drank some wine and ate some good food (the grilling meat smelled divine). I got to visit with friends…and relax. In short, I was in heaven. The kids had a ball, too, playing with all the other kids, running around the yard, playing on the playset, playing air hockey in the basement, and snacking on chips and cake! 🙂

Game 7: Raptors vs Scrappers

One of Owen’s teammates (surprisingly, there’s not too much of this with his team):

Katie’s same friend was there with her purse—and an Elsa/Anna doll—again today which kitty quickly co-opted as her own. The mom had no problem with it because she was just happy her daughter was sharing. 🙂

Katie off playing with her:

Our little catcher!

Owen’s two at-bats:

Friends came over to visit!

Cheyenne and I try to get together at least once a week at either house. Since we have grass and a shade tree, today was here so the kids could play in the water table.

Surprisingly, it took a good half hour before this happened. (Notice the 4″ wood block under the right leg to level it.)

And then this happened.

Look at this cute little bundle! Isn’t he just so stinkin’ cute?! I get my fill of baby time with him…then he goes home with his mom. 🙂

And then the girls found some Frozen birthday party hats (and Cayenne is in Katie’s rain boots). 🙂

Cayenne forgot her flower barrette here so Katie was keeping it safe.

Riding bikes. Or, rather, attempting to.

Both kids wanted to go ride bikes. I knew it would be a challenge because Owen has not ridden his bike since last spring before we moved—and at that point he was still just learning and wasn’t that great at it—and because Katie has never successfully ridden either of the tricycles we have for her.

And that was it for Katie. Grand total of time spent on the bike, 95% of it whining that she couldn’t do it while being pushed by daddy? Five minutes. However, she did love running! She spent the rest of the time chasing after Owen or running ahead of him or just randomly through the parking lot. 🙂

Taking a break to stretch…and take a drink.

Owen was a hot mess for most of the time. He’s grown so much that he is really way too big for the bike we have and we obviously didn’t have another one for him so he had to use that one. And it’s been so long since he’s ridden that it was, in essence, starting over from day one. I’m glad Tom was there to deal with it because I DO NOT have the patience. That said, by the end of our time, he had started to get the hang of it again.

So now I’m on the hunt for a cheap used bigger bike.

After bikes, the kids wanted to go to the “playground” even though I knew they hated this playground as it’s not a real playground. It lasted under five minutes.

They love a water table!

We tossed their old water table when we moved since it was old and gross. We managed to get by last summer without one, but I know the kids missed it. So I got another (actually identical) one. And both of them LOVE it.

Katie got to play first as Owen was still at school.

But as soon as Owen got home, they were right back out there.

Game 5: Raptors vs. Hot Rods

Katie helping Owen get ready!

Owen being silly.

We got there early enough for some practice time.

Standing on a pillow.

He took a little hit in the face after a bad hop.

Now that’s a throw!

He was also the catcher again for an inning.

Unfortunately, we had a minor accident. Katie and Owen were both in the dugout when I called to Katie. Both her and Owen turned to come to me at the same time—I have no idea why Owen did, but he did. And didn’t pay any attention to what he was doing…and smashed Katie right into the big metal pole of the dugout. Tom and I both saw it happen, heard her head SMASH into the pole, and saw her sink to the ground. And start crying. Hoo boy.

All the surrounding parents were concerned, and one got us some ice but Katie didn’t really want it. We had a talk with Owen about paying attention. And cuddled Katie.

We gave her some Tylenol when we got home and after we ate lunch and she took a nap, she seemed just fine. But she’s got a nice goose egg. Her first minor injury. 🙁

Random Katie

She had her ballerina on today, but a friend brought over some hand-me-down clothes…and as soon as Katie saw there was a skirt, she HAD to have it on.

A while later, she discovered the rest of the bag…and this dress which she then HAD to have on. This was her look as she watched me pull MORE DRESSES out of the bag. She’s definitely my girly girl. 🙂

Fun with daddy.

The tunnel got dragged upstairs today. 🙂

An hour with Katie

She also learned how to flick flowers and had a GRAND time doing it.

Then it was off to the playground.

“Mom, the panda is hot!”

She found the only puddle in the middle of the wood chips…in white pants. 🙂

Hanging like a monkey…again.

Her rock collection.

Owen’s day off!

Today was a teacher work day so Owen didn’t have school. I also picked today as a day for no technology—no TV, no iPads, no iPhones—so I try to do at least one fun project. Today I picked cake. 🙂 Owen did pretty good cracking eggs and mixing and I just let Katie dump things into the bowl and mix (with help). 🙂

Taking a Lego break.

Doing chalk in the back yard (on the steps—and as you can see in the next picture, any cement surface) since it was very sunny and the front doesn’t have shade OR anywhere to sit.

I told Owen he looked very dapper in his shirt (I had sent him upstairs to get dressed in his own) and this was the look I got: Yeah, I know. 🙂

That look. All I did was ask her to smile for a picture. Stinker.

I then surprised Owen with a Brick Loot box so he had fun building the Lego-ish toys. This was a 3-in-1 toy and I was surprised he actually built all three!
