They love pillows!
We bought some new pillows to replace some very bedraggled ones and the kids had great fun with them first! You can see they’re blurry because they’re moving fast! 🙂

Me: Why, where are you going?
Owen: The clone trooper work.
Me: Okay. I’ll miss you.
Owen: I’m sad. I’ll miss you in my heart. But then I’ll come home and I’ll be happy!
Owen had a bunch of sticks and water in a bucket.
Me: What kind of soup are you making?
Owen: IT’S NOT SOUP! IT’S POTION!
Me: Okay, what kind of potion are you making?
Owen: Uh…stick. Stick potion.
Owen: When I was at the hospital for a week for six minutes…
Owen has been randomly mentioning Facebook.
Me, to Tom: I have no idea how he knows about Facebook—I don’t talk about it.
Tom: Owen, what’s Facebook?
Owen: I think I see pictures or something.
Tonight we read “There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly.”
Me: There was an old lady who swallowed a horse. She died, of course.
Owen: Why did she die?
Me: You can’t eat a horse.
Owen: No, you have to eat healthy things!
Driving by Dunkin Donuts:
Owen: And that’s Dunkin Donuts.
Me: How do you know Dunkin Donuts?
Owen: They have chocolate balls and vanilla balls. Braxton’s mom brings them.
(Yes, she does bring them to our mommy play group get-togethers…but it’s literally been eight months since it’s happened.)
We were all in the car and Tom and the kids were picking me up after their trip to Lowe’s. Tom said they bought Katie a toy.
Tom: Katie, show mama your toy.
Katie: babble babble
Me: Katie can I see your toy?
Katie: babble babble
Owen: Whining.SHE DOESN’T CARE!
Owen is 5 years 3 months old today!
Yes, I technically stopped taking monthly photos, but he happened to be dressed super cute in a new outfit today so I took a picture…then realized later it was “the” day. So here you go. 🙂
Shy at the dentist
Owen was excited about going to the dentist today—on the way in he was literally saying “I LOVE GOING TO THE DENTIST!” He got a cup of water from the water cooler. He brushed his teeth and went potty. He sat in the chair with no problem. The X-rays went fine. He even put the sunglasses on without issue (he’s always refused before).
Then when it came time to actually clean his teeth, he got shy (his words, of course). And not really a cute shy—but a grouchy/scared not-going-to-open-my-mouth shy. Sigh. It took a few minutes but I finally figured out he didn’t really want the tangerine-flavored toothpaste (even though he likes oranges) so once he picked raspberry he was fine. Kids!
He got his picture taken for having no cavities and got two stickers and got to pick out a toy! He was thrilled.
We make do.
We’re not putting up the pool this summer (since we’ll be leaving halfway through) so we make do…
And then this happened. I love this kid.

First sprinkler fun of the season!
After yesterday’s water fun, we told the kids they could play outside in the water again since it was going to be nice—they just had to wait until after Katie’s nap. This was actually Katie’s first ever time in a sprinkler—and of course she LOVED it!

I didn’t really want to get wet, so I ran inside to get my telephoto lens. Ahhhh, much better!
It was at this point that Owen accidentally broke the sprinkler—he was attempting to jump over it but instead landed right on it. He wasn’t hurt but we told him that he had to be careful. Then Tom went over and determined that yes, it really was broken, so he turned the water off so he could unhook it while he went to look for a new sprinkler. And Owen lost his shit. He started crying and screaming uncontrollably. We tried to get him to tell us what was wrong (Was he really hurt? Was he mad at Tom? Was he just upset the water was turned off?) but he wouldn’t even quiet down enough to hear anything we were saying. We assured him he wasn’t in trouble and that it was an accident but he just wouldn’t settle down. We had about 10 minutes of what you see below. Tom did find another sprinkler and hooked it up and Katie kept trying to get Owen to come over to it, but he was still being a poop. It took another 10 minutes or so before he was finally back in the groove.
Someone loved playing in the mud puddles created by the sprinkler! 🙂

Some of it was a little loud for Owen, but overall he did really well and wasn’t bothered by it. (Which is awesome since when we tried this two years ago, he lasted about two minutes.) Katie never even flinched at ANY of the noise!

Oh well. Katie was happy!
So a good time was had by all! I’m glad Owen got to enjoy it after missing out on it the last time, I’m glad Tom was able to go with us, and I’m glad Katie was amazing and just sat/stood on Tom’s lap the entire time! (Afterwards Owen said he was sad that the characters didn’t come up to him—a few of the characters came down the aisles about six rows during one song—and we told him they just didn’t have the time to come see everyone! Poor kid.)

Happy Easter 2014!
So Owen was up early with Tom as usual and told Tom that there was an R2-D2 downstairs. That’s one of the “eggs” we hid, and Tom knew he hadn’t been downstairs so was perplexed as to how he knew about it. So he had a talk with him about lying. But Owen claimed he wasn’t lying so Tom finally said “Okay, show me.” And Owen took him to the landing which overlooks the entryway…and part of the toy room where Katie’s changing station is…where Tom had, in fact, placed an R2-D2 on the corner in plain sight!! Mr. Eagle Eyes strikes again!!
Then, surprisingly, when we headed downstairs, he completely missed the egg on the windowsill on the landing…Katie actually saw it as she was coming down (in video).

She found about three eggs and then she was done—she was opening them and eating the candy as fast as she could!
We tried to get a double bunny ear picture but it wasn’t happening. This was all we got. 🙂

Overall it was a great success! I think they missed a few eggs so they’ll find them throughout the day. And while candy and chocolate was their pre-breakfast snack, they didn’t do too badly!
The kids helped me make cookies!
Nothing intensive…just a quick sugar cookie bag mix that I got on clearance at Target. I figured that was our speed. 🙂
I gave Owen the option of making colored cookies and he wanted blue (his favorite color)!
After we finished the first tray, there was still a bit left, so Owen made these four—“One for each of us!” 🙂

It’s my bed!
When I was with Owen in the bathroom getting his teeth brushed, I saw Tom sneak by into Owen’s room, turn off the light, and shut the door. I wasn’t quite sure what he was planning, so I started recording. 🙂
I love hearing him laugh!! Especially as lately he’s been having a rough time…he worries when we’re out of his sight, he wants to know where we are in the house, most of the time he’ll come running (and crying) if he looks for us and doesn’t immediately see us…
And bedtime is the worst. He’s always been a great sleeper—but recently he’s been crying at bedtime, getting up out of bed to come find us, etc. We’ve asked if something happened to make him worry more and he says no… We feel bad, but it gets old.
So anyway, it’s nice hearing his laugh at bedtime. Except afterwards when it was really bedtime, he started getting scared. Tonight it was monsters. So I layed his B on top of him and tucked it all around him, telling him it was magic and would protect him from everything. He liked that…
And he promised to be brave…
Family time at the park!
Tom has a 96 (Friday through Monday off) so we took the kids to the park.
This is as high as he’d go.
“Daddy, how high can you go?” Tom pretty much just jumped straight to the top. 🙂
Tom wanted to help Owen but Owen was freaked out and wanted NO part of it.
After swinging on the toddler swing and the big kid swing, she wanted to try this one.
For some unknown reason, Owen is way more freaked out about slides than when he was little. This was his second time down—after he made me catch him the first time.

Daddy’s Hat
I had hoped she’d come closer but she didn’t so I had to crop—hence the graininess.
The best I could do with the limited apps (and my limited skill) on the phone. In the original his face was so dark you couldn’t see much.
These made Owen giggle!
I have an app on my phone where I can put faces in holes of characters—so I picked some Star Wars ones to surprise Owen. He loved them!
And he liked this one the best
I also did this one of Katie but it’s not that great.

Easter break park play date!
I told Owen we were going to the park and he was really excited. Then I told him who would be there (the core group of moms and kids from my mommy group) and he got EVEN MORE excited and said “My friends!!!!”
The other kids were super excited to see him, too—we really haven’t all been together (on a playdate) since before school started!
Running around with another group of boys who were playing shooting games. 🙂
Then everyone ate snacks/lunch at the pavilion and then it was time to head home for Katie’s nap.
This was the best I could get as we were leaving the park!

Katie was napping so we got out some spelling puzzles! He did really well!
I told her she needed her shoes on.
Of course Owen was having a fit because she had his shoes. 🙂
He likes grilled cheese!
After he professed his love for “cheese toast” we explained that grilled cheese was just toasted bread and melty cheese…and he was willing to give it a try!
Of course he dipped it in yogurt! And I know he loved it because he asked for a second sandwich (I gave him a quarter of mine)!
You can see in the vertical picture that he set his Legos up to watch him eat! And he told me they were all jealous of his sandwich!
