Sorry these photos are so late in getting posted…we had a busy month, what with the move and all…and then our new cable company (Time Warner) has super duper sucky upload speeds, so it took almost EIGHT FULL HOURS to upload the 200 pictures I had, as opposed to the maybe two hours (tops) it would have taken in Troy. >:XX
We took Owen to a bounce arena (a new Jax business with lots of bouncy stuff), thinking he would LOVE it since he loves to jump and bounce on the couches, beds, and chairs. But apparently his love is limited to things he shouldn’t actually be jumping on because he was completely freaked out by the bounce houses and we got a lot of “NO THANK YOU”s. I guess we’ll try again in a few months.

Owen has been doing great in his new room—and hadn’t tried escaping at all—until it was Gramma Jean’s turn to watch him during his nap while Tom and I ran some errands. He decided to keep following her out of his room and refused to stay in his bed and take a nap. The stinker! (And smartypants, since he knew not to try that game with mom or dad!)
So, following the advice of some friends, we reversed his door knob so we can lock it from the outside. And it worked like a charm!!
Tonight, I put him to bed, locked the door, then stood outside his room to listen to what happened. I heard him get out of bed, rattle the knob, announce that it was locked—and then he cried and whined for a few minutes before he got back into bed and settled down.
We were driving to dinner with Gramma Jean so I was in the back seat with Owen, and I set my purse next to him…and I loved that he just kind of grabbed the handles and hung on to it the entire way. 🙂
Since we had the animals with us and it was terribly hot, we couldn’t leave them in the car, but we wanted to get out and stretch…so we had a picnic at a gas station/fast food/truck plaza under the only shade we could see. We had Owen’s chair and he ate fries, yogurt, and fries dipped in yogurt. 🙂
Poor little guy. His whole world has changed (disappeared) during the past three days and the outbursts and tantrums have reached an epic level (i.e. more in the past two days than his entire life). Once we realized HE realized things were missing (like when he asked for “more couch”) we started trying to say “chair gone—bye bye chair” which seemed to help. But he still had outbursts like this on and off all day (this one was just this morning after he ASKED to go out and play in the water—we took him out, but then he didn’t want to be out there).
The good thing is that for the most part, the outbursts are over within a few minutes at the most and then he calms down or goes back to being happy and playing with his cars or watching movies.
And there were really fun times, too, like when he discovered that we made him a tunnel!! And when we went and played/hid in the upstairs closet for a good 20 minutes…opening and closing the doors, saying “spooooky” and hiding from daddy.
I can’t wait until this is over and we can get back into his schedule. Everything was off yesterday due to the movers being understaffed, so instead of being done loading the truck by 5, they were here until 9:30. And since they were running behind, I postponed the carpet cleaner—so instead of him being done by 8, he was done at 10 (and he was cleaning the upstairs at Owen’s bedtime, so Owen didn’t go to bed until 9:30). But Owen was a trouper and lasted pretty well until about 9:15 when he started asking for “more nap.” So sad and cute at the same time…

Owen didn’t want the apple that I cut for his dinner, but after dinner, he saw the remaining whole apple on the counter and grabbed it…and chewed on it for quite some time!
Since Owen is getting pretty good using his spoon with his yogurt, we thought we’d try cereal in milk. It took a few minutes of telling him NO when he tried to eat with his fingers and showing him how to scoop with the spoon, but he eventually got it. Of course, he still tries to use his fingers some times…but then the next moment he’ll pick up fallen cereal and put it back in the bowl (instead of in his mouth)! But overall he did really well for his first try!
Owen really wanted to go outside before dinner, but we were only minutes away so we said no. So then he started saying please, which is just terribly cute and hard to resist, but we just didn’t have time. Besides, now that he knows please, I’m trying to teach him that just because he says please doesn’t mean he will get what he’s asking for.
But he kept getting more and more adamant—verging on whining and tears with every please please plase—when I heard what I swear was “I said please!” in a very anguished little voice.
Well, how could you not be swayed by that? Is your heart made of steel? Have you no soul?
Owen is getting better at repeating things we say and picking up words a lot faster these days. I am sure I’m still missing some, but here’s most of the new words…he’s up to 261!

He just started counting on his own, so I asked him to count again. You might have to turn the volume up towards the end, but he does count from one to ten!
I finally figured out how to connect ALL the pieces of Owen’s train tracks, and it made a tunnel. He hadn’t seen it because I did it after he went to bed…but he noticed it as soon as he came downstairs! And he knew it was a tunnel!
For awhile now, Owen has been able to unlock the sliding screen door and can now push the sliding glass door open if it’s unlocked. (He could probably unlock that door, too, though we’ve never seen it happen.)
However, today we hit a new milestone—he can open a regular door knob. 88|
I know…oh nooooooo!
So far, he’s only displayed his prowess on the downstairs bathroom door (probably the easiest door in the house), but I am sure it’s only a matter of time before he figures out he can open his bedroom door, too.
Ugh.
Of course we knew this day was coming, but as with everything else, we kinda hoped it wouldn’t happen quite yet.
There wasn’t much action in the arctic circle…except a tiny seal.
Watching the train pull into the station:
First train ride! We thought he’d love it, but he was fairly 😐 about it.
Owen did an amazing job during the three hours we were there—we had the stroller and gave him rides between stops and he was a perfect little angel. He enjoyed the animals we saw (a lot of them were hiding or sleeping) and said “hi” to and waved to them all (sooo cute!). He never ran off when he was out of the stroller and he would run back to the stroller to ride to the next spot. Such a good kid!
