Bath chatter

Playing with a bath scrubby:
“He wants to go to preschool. He wants to play race cars and blocks and fun stuff.”

Holding a bath scrubby and moving it back and forth over his genital area:
“Can you see my penis? You see it? It’s hiding!”

Still pretending with the bath scrubby:
“Ladies and gentleman, I’m not going to preschool any more! No one is ever going to preschool.”

Owen is blowing my mind!

So we’re sitting at dinner and I jokingly hold up a cooked baby carrot to him and ask if he wants to try it.

“Yes.”

Then grabs it and takes a bite. He seemed to like it but then didn’t want to finish it.

Oh. My. Gawd.

Is he starting to be…normal?

Then he tried the rice! He claimed it was too hot (it wasn’t, but I had mentioned it was hot at first so I think he just locked in to that) but said he liked it…but then refused another bite.

Still…I’m thrilled. We’ve had more new food tastes this week than the past two years.

YAY OWEN!!

New food #4!

I’m still shaking my head in disbelief—and excitement!

Tom brought home teriyaki (steak and chicken, fried rice, and fried onions/zucchini) for lunch and I asked Owen twice if he wanted to try the chicken (it was super tender with a really yummy sauce) but he said no. Okay, fine, that’s honestly what I expected.

So as I’m finishing my last bite, he looks over and says “What’s that?” I told him it was the last forkful of rice.

“I try it?”

Wait, what? HE ASKED TO TRY IT?

So I scraped up a few remaining pieces of rice and he ate it…and loved it…and wanted more! I was done, but managed to scrape a few more odds and ends of rice for another mini bite—and he wanted more! I felt bad I didn’t have any more…but who would have thought he’d ASK to try rice?

Grannie said she was making rice for dinner so he could have more then. I kept my fingers crossed that he’d still be interested by then.

A Lego minifig head is exactly the size of Owen’s nostril.

Wonder how I know? 😐

Yes, this was the first thing he actually stuck up his nose and couldn’t get out. I had to get the tweezers and threaten to take all his Legos away if he did it again.

  • Karen—And that item looks pissed!
  • Sheryl—Look at Owen’s face – did he get yelled at?
  • Katherine—It happens
  • Jennifer—Sheryl, not yelled at, but definitely told to SIT STILL AND DON’T TOUCH IT while I ran to get the tweezers…and to not do it again.
  • Andrew—*laughs* Poor Owen.
  • Jean—Remember when one of your “Brownie” friends stuck a Nerd up her nose in the car on the way to Cedar Point? OMG.
  • Kristin—My brother in law didn’t stick things up his nose. He stuck red hots up his SISTER’S nose.
  • Tammy—Poor Owen looks like he belongs in one of the Bad Dog pictures.
  • Jennifer—He was actually just watching Sesame Street. He wasn’t upset.
  • Jeremy—Whatever that is that was up his nose doesn’t look happy about it.
  • Nancy—Awww! That photo is just great! I stuck a crayon in my belly button and my mom took me to the hospital because I wouldn’t tell her what happened, I was crying, and it was red. Kids, man.

OWEN ATE A BANANA!!!!

Owen shocked the hell out of me and asked for AND ATE a banana today. Just. like. that.

I was on the computer in the office and he was out playing his Sesame Street Xbox game and I saw that Cookie Monster was eating a banana. Owen came in to me to tell me he needed a banana. I was sure he just meant to play with it (to mimic what Cookie Monster was doing) and I said no, he didn’t need a banana.

A few minutes later: “Mom…I NEED A BANANA!” I asked if he was going to play with it or eat it—completely expecting him to say play with it—but he said EAT IT! So I said “Are you really going to eat it?” He said yes.

So we went downstairs, I started peeling it for him, handed it to him, and he took a bite like it was the most normal thing in the world and he’s been eating bananas forever. EXCEPT HE’S NEVER EATEN A BANANA IN HIS LIFE (aside from mashed when he was a baby) AND YOU KNOW HOW HE IS ABOUT TRYING NEW FOODS.

I was floored. FLOORED I TELL YOU! And perfectly giddy in my excitement—if we’re being honest.

He only ate about half of it BUT HE ATE IT! Without any coercion! Now to find videos of Cookie Monster eating some veggies!!

*As a sidenote, I really hope he continues to like them because that should help with the poop issues we’re STILL having…

Jenny outfit, part 3.

Well, just the jacket, really. 🙂 This is the next item from the Jenny’s-old-clothes-for-Katie drawer. She wasn’t being especially cooperative this morning so no super cute photo.

Then Owen chimed in and said “I want to sit with her!”

And hugging her. I think. Well, at least he’s loving on her even if it really isn’t a hug per se.

We have a shadow!

After being gone on vacation for five days/four nights and then being gone again most of Tuesday…Owen is our shadow.

  • I go upstairs to take a shower…and he has to come upstairs with me and watch TV in our room: “Mama, I come upstairs with you? Very please?”
  • He wants to go upstairs to play his new Elmo Xbox game and says “You come up with me?”
  • Tom goes to the bathroom/garage/bedroom/anywhere out of sight: “Where’s daddy? Where’s my dad?”
  • I walk out of his sight: “Mama, where are you going? You stay here with me?”

It’s soooo cute…yet so sad and pathetic.

At one point, Papa and Grannie left to go out to dinner, and Papa came upstairs when they got home. As soon as Owen saw him, he started freaking out and crying, saying “Don’t leave! You stay here!” Poor kid thought that we were going to leave again because they were back.

I hope we’re out of this phase soon because it just breaks your heart (especially because we have to be strong and not cave in).

It’s good to be home!

I honestly didn’t really miss the kids until we were on our way home…

And then it was pure awesome seeing Owen come running out of the house to give us both hugs! He was SO excited that we were home! And it feels like he changed a ton—his vocabulary and enunciation seems better and he even seemed lighter!

I hate leaving him, but I like the welcome home greeting we got!!
