This is what happens when you leave a plate too close to Katie in her highchair. It was really loud but didn’t phase her at all.
Who, me?
P.S. Owen hasn’t broken a dish yet. /knock on wood
Katie ate ribeye, asparagus, and garlic bread for dinner. Whoa.
Of course, she doesn’t eat enough to fill up so she also ate some green beans, baby yogurt, and baby sweet potatoes…but still impressive in my book. 🙂
So far she’s eaten avocado, egg yolk, banana, potato, canned peas, baby carrots, freeze dried strawberries, and pancakes. She doesn’t eat a lot of anything, but she hasn’t spit anything out. Her favorite is…yogurt! 🙂
Black beans, meatballs, and canned pears are on the lineup for today…and blueberries and sweet potatoes are on the shopping list.
That said, I’m finding it difficult to wrap my head around what to feed her since I’m SO conditioned from Owen not really liking anything when he was a baby.
Owen shocked the hell out of me and asked for AND ATE a banana today. Just. like. that.
I was on the computer in the office and he was out playing his Sesame Street Xbox game and I saw that Cookie Monster was eating a banana. Owen came in to me to tell me he needed a banana. I was sure he just meant to play with it (to mimic what Cookie Monster was doing) and I said no, he didn’t need a banana.
A few minutes later: “Mom…I NEED A BANANA!” I asked if he was going to play with it or eat it—completely expecting him to say play with it—but he said EAT IT! So I said “Are you really going to eat it?” He said yes.
So we went downstairs, I started peeling it for him, handed it to him, and he took a bite like it was the most normal thing in the world and he’s been eating bananas forever. EXCEPT HE’S NEVER EATEN A BANANA IN HIS LIFE (aside from mashed when he was a baby) AND YOU KNOW HOW HE IS ABOUT TRYING NEW FOODS.
I was floored. FLOORED I TELL YOU! And perfectly giddy in my excitement—if we’re being honest.
He only ate about half of it BUT HE ATE IT! Without any coercion! Now to find videos of Cookie Monster eating some veggies!!
*As a sidenote, I really hope he continues to like them because that should help with the poop issues we’re STILL having…
Owen is no longer allowed to order any food at restaurants. Or, rather, we are not ordering him anything for the near future.
He has wanted French fries lately so we went to Red Robin and ordered him a cheese pizza (one of the few things he’ll eat) with fries. He saw the picture of a chocolate shake and wanted that, so we figured What the hell, it will be a special treat (he’s never asked for one before, but he’s had some of Tom’s so we know he likes it).
So the meal comes and…he refuses to drink the shake, he refuses to eat the fries, and he refuses to eat the pizza. He didn’t even want the yogurt we brought from home. He just drank two glasses of milk.
Argh.
So from now on? He gets his favorite cheese crackers, a granola bar, or fries (if we get them) off our plate. No more wasting money on food he might or might not eat.
Tonight we tried bananas. Tried being the operative word.
I had pita chips and hummus on the table. Owen wanted a chip and he’s never had those, but it’s a chip so he was eager to try it. Then I pushed the hummus toward him and asked if he wanted to try it.
Owen: Is it peanut butter?
Me: It’s like peanut butter.
He dips a chip and eats it.
Me: Do you like it?
Owen: Turning the hummus around to see the label… No, it’s tomato. (It’s Tuscan Herb so the picture shows a tomato and basil.)
But I rewarded him 10 minutes for trying a new food!
Owen: Mom, what are these chips called?
Me: Pita chips.
Owen: Mmmmm. I like pita chips.
He continues eating chips.
A few minutes later he’s eyeing the hummus. I ask if he wants more and he says yes.
Wait, what?
Okay!
He dipped a few and ate them…so I asked if he liked it and his answer was still no. 🙂
Then he took the chips (and his milk) upstairs. About 10 minutes later he comes down—carrying the bag of chips—saying he needs “this” as he grabs the hummus, putts the top on and carries it off.
I texted Tom (who was upstairs with him) asking if he sent Owen down for it and he said no—“He wanted it. Said it is his lunch!”
Amazing!
Now…if only he likes it on another day!
I made Owen a special treat for his snack today—garlic bread with fresh three cheese bread from Sam’s Club. I made myself a salad and was eating that while he ate the bread. I asked if I could have a bite and he said “No, you have salad!”
Owen was eating his snack—his favorite cheese crackers with peanut butter—in bed this morning. He looked down and saw his B had crumbs on it:
“Oh no! My B is all crackery!”
