Happy 4th Birthday, Owen!

He did pretty well opening presents…except he really loved the first things he opened (Lego Cars and a Ninja Lego) so he wanted to stop right then and play but we made him keep going. 🙂 We did stop about halfway through, though, because he was losing interest and really wanted to play. Which was just fine.

Katie’s first boo boo.

So, Katie still falls over once in awhile. This morning she fell backwards and landed on a plastic semi tractor/trailer…but didn’t really cry about it. But I moved the truck and put a cushy blanket behind her so if she toppled again it would be on something soft. So what happens? She moved and toppled sideways so she smacked her forehead right on this corner.

🙁

And she cried…but only for about 30 seconds.

Fast forward a few hours and it doesn’t look THAT bad, but it definitely left a mark! (And isn’t she cute in another new cold-weather outfit?)

Off to playgroup!

I forgot to mention…I am now part of a mom group that has weekly play dates! A sitter that I met through SitterCity invited me to join after we REALLY hit it off! I love all the moms there so I am VERY excited to be a part of it! We switch hosting duties and I offered after my first visit!

Here’s the kids before we were off for the morning. Because it was CHILLY, Katie was in a cold-weather 6m outfit…

and Owen was in his MSU jacket!

Big Brother/Little Sister

Now that Owen actually likes Katie, I bought some Big Brother/Little Sister shirts for them to wear in sibling photos (yes, I’m THAT mom)!

First, we just set Katie on Owen and lots of rolling around and laughing ensued.

I love his look—like he’s 16 and saying I’m too cool to be here doing this. Or maybe even Watch it, this is my little sister and I’ll hurt you if you mess with her.

Then some smiles!

And then each kid with their own B. 🙂

Jenny outfit, part 2.

Here is the next outfit from my past that Katie got to wear…though, unfortunately, I waited a bit too long and it was too small for her so she just wore it for a few pictures! (I apparently am a very bad judge of sizes—and it’s a homemade outfit so there is no sizing listed—and of course Gramma Jean has no memory of what age I wore it!)

You can see how Owen likes to interfere with the photo shoot. 🙂

Same outfit, same age.

When I was cleaning out the garage last weekend, I pulled out some old outfits of Owen’s that I wanted Katie to wear so I could try and get “matching” pictures. I couldn’t remember the exact age to get them SUPER matching, so today seemed like a good day. And then I went back and found the picture of Owen that I remembered in the outfit (it was one of our favorites!) and imagine my surprise when I counted the days of both and Owen was 3 months 27 days old and Katie was 3 months 28 days old! I couldn’t have planned it much better if I had tried!

Like mother, like daughter.

This was one of MY shirts back in the day…homemade by my mom! She held onto it for almost 40 years on the off chance I’d have a girl so she could wear it! Also, be warned, this is the first of many hand-me-down outfits to come… And mom? Now you have to search all the old slides and photos to find a picture of ME in the shirt!

I love the belly button showing! Her first belly shirt! 🙂

From utter frustration to melting heart in five minutes…

Look what happened when I left him alone for 10 minutes today…

SERIOUSLY?! UGH.

I told him I wasn’t happy because he made a mess—and that he shouldn’t take Katie’s clothes out of her drawers, but reasoning with a toddler is pointless at best. I also told him he had to help me pick it all up, so he handed me a few pieces and then he was done. 😐 I didn’t even have the energy to finish dealing with it right then…but he’ll definitely be helping me pick it all up later.

Of course, he followed it up with something super cute…but I was still fuming a bit over the mess.

And THEN he does something super sweet…Katie was crying so he grabbed the bottle and started to feed her.

Ahhh, life with a toddler. From utter frustration to melting heart in five minutes…

Second day of potty training.

Well, there were ups and downs today…as expected, I guess. 😐

I went to town and bought 15 pair of (size 6!) underwear, so we’re fully stocked. I also bought a bunch of toys for the Pee and Poop Reward Jars. Of course, when Owen saw me with the new toys that he couldn’t play with, he had a mini meltdown…complete with his growling “Not gonna pee in potty anymore! Don’t want toys anymore!”

But overall he did pretty well peeing in the potty. There were a few instances of not quite making it in time—he gets to the bathroom but either pees on the way there or doesn’t get his undies down in time. And the times he does get in there, his aim is awful (even with Cheerios as targets)…so needless to say the Clorox wipes and baby wipes are kept close at hand (one to clean the floor/wall/toilet and one to clean him).

I think his biggest problem is not wanting to stop what he’s doing to go potty, hence the waiting until the last minute. If you ask him if he has to go, he usually says no. So you have to watch him like a hawk and notice him holding himself or crossing his legs or prancing around. But other times he’ll just go in the bathroom on his own… so it’s a total crapshoot. He did earn quite a few toys so he was happy.

The best part of the day, however, was when he was handed a chocolate coin for his potty training reward, and said: “A chocolate coin! WOOHOO!” Yes, he literally said WOOHOO! 😀

Tomorrow is poop day. It’s been two days with only rabbit turds… Lord help us.
