Dead mobile = shopping with mom!

I was on the hunt for a new mobile. For some unknown reason, the mobile we had downstairs on the pack-and-play (that Grandpa Mike and Grandma Linda bought) just died. I was in the middle of using it yesterday (during the mom’s group meeting) and the windup knob suddenly lost all tension so there was no music or rotation. Hoo boy.

So Tom and I went to find a new mobile after work. Since it was kinda late we just went to the local Babies ‘R’ Us. Well, they didn’t have much at all. We ended up with an electronic (i.e. needs batteries) mobile, with the thought that although it was more expensive AND would eat batteries…at least we wouldn’t have to get up and wind it every five minutes. Plus the new one had a remote! WOOHOO! That said, it turned out to be WAY too busy of a mobile and I think it actually kept him awake! (FYI: it was the Tiny Love Sweet Island Dreams Mobile.)

So today I decided to hit the other bigger/nicer baby stores in Utica to look for a mobile that actually played the same song (Brahms’ Lullaby, pretty common with windup mobiles) and found one on clearance for $20. My plan was to just use the windup part (which plays the music) and attach it to the old mobile—so I didn’t want to spend $40 for a new one. So imagine my surprise as I kept shopping and found…the exact mobile! On clearance! :>> Apparently the company has disappeared—which would explain why I hadn’t been able to find any information about it online last night! For reference, it’s a Doodlebugs Musical Mobile by Dolly:

The product lists the website as www.dolly.com but it’s definitely NOT a baby website anymore. (It’s not an unsafe site, in case you were wondering. It’s about hand trucks and carts.)

So this was Owen while we were wandering about Babies ‘R’ Us…

And now I’m trying to get him to nap—with the new mobile—and he doesn’t seem to want to nap. Even though I know he’s tired since he has only napped for about an hour total so far today. Stinker.

Buying diapers: The Thought Process

So it took 8 days to go through the first pack of 48 diapers. So another 8 days (the second pack of 48 diapers) would be on/around July 3. I don’t think he’ll be more than 22# by then (the stated limit for size 2-3 diapers), so it looks like I need more in that size.

But do I need 152 more? (I ordered the current packs from diapers.com, but had a $10 off coupon so they were a better deal at the time. The current best deal right now is at Amazon, but it’s a pack of 152 (I can’t find this size locally).

So, 152/48 is about 3 packs, and 3 packs X 8 days per pack is 24 days + the 8 days I have left with the new pack = 32 days (or about a month).

So the questions are: Will he still fit in them then? Will I use all them before he outgrows them? (Lord I hope so on both accounts!)

I certainly don’t have to order them at the moment (since I have about 8 days worth left), so we’ll wait and see what dad thinks.

As an aside, I posted a shorter version to Facebook, and got this response:

Mary Wakeley at 1:34pm June 26
Inevitably if you order a month’s worth he wil outgrow them in two weeks. Or worse, he won’t technically outgrow them in pounds, he will just start having diaper blow-outs every other day and then you will know a bigger size is needed. This is how the little ones operate- I have learned the hard way. 🙂

I find it ironic that someone I used to BABYSIT FOR is giving me advice on diapers and kids! (And I posted that to her, as well!) But, I know she speaks the truth!

Owen & Elliot

Elliot is one of the babies from my mom’s group. Us moms meet every other Monday (officially), and on the “middle” Mondays we try to meet at someone’s house as well—just to get out of the house and get to know each other better. Today was a middle Monday that, unbeknownst to me, got cancelled…but the mom (Angie!) didn’t mind when I showed up on her doorstep, and we hung out for a bit…as did the boys! Aren’t they just adorable? I think Elliot is a few weeks (maybe a month) older than Owen.

To the Woman Sitting Behind Me

http://blogs.chron.com/ar…dience_mem.html

This is a great letter a friend wrote about his recent experience at the theater. We are trying to convince him to write it as a Letter to the Editor! He sent it to the local newspaper blogger and they published it!

To the Woman Sitting Behind Me at Fiddler on the Roof:

Thanks so much for your recent performance. I could tell you are not a professional performer due the fact you were unable to hit the right notes and you didn’t care about pitch or tone. But kudos to you for belting out every song like you were one of the trained, highly skilled and experienced performers up on stage. You didn’t let your lack of traditional talent get in the way! I also liked the way you, at times, sung all the lyrics half a second ahead of the people on stage, obviously to let those around you know that you had, in fact, memorized the lyrics and weren’t just singing along. I caught what you were doing, you sneaky devil, and am in awe of your skill!

I also noticed all the other touches your brought to the performance. It was very helpful that you blurted out the names of each new character that came on stage and let out a spastic little round of applause like an excited 3-year-old at Christmas. I’m glad I didn’t have to wait for the story to unfold as the writer intended. An added bonus was you blurting out the punchlines to the jokes ahead of the actors. Obviously the comedic timing of the actors was off and you corrected it all by speeding it up. Good job! And your enthusiastic clapping along to the music, when no one else in the audience was, really added to the performance. Why would I want to hear the trained orchestra when I could hear that wonderful clapping? I loved that you didn’t choose to clap on the beat, as most people would, but sort of randomly clapped here and there, imitating (in an obviously mocking fashion) people who have no rhythm. What a great interpretation!

Finally, at the end of the performance, I loved the loss of hearing I temporarily enjoyed as you repeatedly shouted, at the the top of your lungs, “Bravo,” and “Topol,” (refering to name of the actor in the lead role) directly into my right ear. Yes, the standing ovation the rest of the theater engaged in seemed like a spit in the face compared to your enthusiastic celebration of the performance.

Your new fan,
Theater Goer

PS: I heard you mention on your way out of the theater that you had tickets to an upcoming performance of Cabaret. I just checked my calendar and it is with great disappointment I must tell your that I will be busy with other engagements during that show’s entire run.

Rice cereal comments…

I posted this to Facebook last night:

Jennifer Hudson just gave Owen his first taste of rice cereal—he wasn’t too thrilled.

And I am totally loving all the comments from everyone:

Karen Gustafson Mehollin at 8:52pm June 3
For Mason, I used to mix it with pear or apple juice for some flavor…and to help him poop. 🙂

Tommie Smith at 8:52pm June 3
Max didn’t know what to do with it the first time either. Try again in a few days.

Jennie Precour-Kav at 9:32pm June 3
Mine HATED it in formula but if I mixed it with a little bit of veggies or fruit she loved IT!! but cereal in formula was a big fat NO! Maybe mix it with his milk and feed it to him with a spoon instead of in the bottle

Heather Cogswell at 9:34pm June 3
If he doesn’t like it, go with another food. There are a good number of well tolerated first foods for babies.

RedStrapper Racing at 9:38pm June 3
A little rice in that bottle and he’ll be sleepin all night!! gives the tummy somthing to work on & he wont be getting up all the time hungry. All 4 of my boys got that @ two months old…

Michele Hanson at 10:26pm June 3
We had better luck with oatmeal than rice cereal. He liked it better and less “tummy” issues.

Mary Langbeen at 11:02pm June 3
My 6 month old “just” started finger foods, now that she can grasp well. It took us a couple kids to figure out that baby cereal wasn’t all its cracked up to be, and don’t use it. But if anything oatmeal has more nutritional value and is easier on the tummy. Rice has the tendency to clog things up.

Emilee Patrishkoff at 12:52am June 4 via Facebook Mobile
we went with the finger foods as well—both lo’s started around eight and nine months when they showed interest and were able to pick up small pieces—seemed to work well for us, they both do their little happy dances when they eat—we started with things like avocado, pears, sweet potato and such because i thought the rice cereals were kind of nasty tasting

Dayna Rogers Christison at 3:18am June 4
Rice is like glue. Try oatmeal instead, and put sweet potato in it, or peas.

Jo Wright at 11:50am June 4
screw cereal. mashed banana or avocado are great first foods, and much more palatable!

Claudia C H Palma-Morgan at 12:49pm June 4
cereal at night is what finally got my baby to sleep through the night. I guess I wasn’t doing it for him and a full belly made him sleep!

What a weekend!

What an amazing weekend this has been…

Why, you ask? What could have happened to make it so amazing?

Well, Tom had most of it off!! Yes, the guy who typically works six days a week, up to 12 hours a day, and who rarely gets weekends off…got Friday off, most of Saturday off (he worked until about 10am), Sunday off, and Monday off!!

When he first told me (Thursday night), I was just stunned into silence. What were we going to do? We hadn’t had that much time off together…since Owen was born! Of course all our to-do lists popped into mind, but mostly I just wanted to have family time—time for daddy and Owen to spend together!

After the first day (Friday) it already felt like we had had a week off! It was that amazing! I didn’t even mind him going into work on Saturday because I knew we still had lots of time left together! We also had lunch with cousin Lori at a new restaurant (for us) and had a very enjoyable time! When we got home, Michaels called and said our photo was done. I love love love how it turned out:

Framed and matted formal portrait from our 03/08 cruise

At this point I can’t even remember all that we did, but I know we all had fun! Of course we did get to some of the to-dos (the garage is now mostly organized) but those weren’t our main focus! Daddy and Owen played quite a bit, and daddy even took over most of the feedings so mommy could have a break! And mommy got to sleep in three mornings instead of just her normal one (Sunday)! (It would have been four mornings, but all of us were actually awake, so we all sat and played in bed!)

The weather was gorgeous, so we grilled each night and ate most of our dinners outside (when dad and Lin were here last week, we got the patio furniture cleaned and ready to go). Tom was able to mow the lawn. We went to the park and played on the swings (see this post on the Baby Blog).

Owen swinging at the park

In short, it was heaven…or, for most people, what a normal life must be like.

I wish it could be like this every weekend, but I will take what I can get!!

No more swaddling…?!

So, we’ve been swaddling Owen for bed at night. The practice was highly recommended, and we got used to it and enjoyed mixed results—he seemed to sleep well enough but was very Houdini-esqe and managed to escape frequently. Of course, the grandparents assumed this to mean he didn’t like being swaddled and was struggling to escape…and didn’t want us to swaddle him. And we just trusted the professionals and assumed he was a very wiggly baby and continued to swaddle him. (We did try NOT swaddling him a time or two and it didn’t seem to make any difference.)

So fast forward to Gramma Jean taking a night shift and not being too successful applying the swaddle…so I said we could NOT swaddle him if SHE chose because she would have to deal with the repercussions if he didn’t sleep well…and we could always go back to swaddling. So we didn’t swaddle…and we both got a big laugh out of his sleeping position (viewed from the monitor):

This was on Thursday, May 7.

Since then, we have continued…and for the most part I think it’s okay. But we we think it’s harder for him to go down—even if he seems TOTALLY out, as soon as we put him down, his arms shoot up and he flails around. I think when he was wrapped, he couldn’t tell as much that we were letting him go and setting him down. Secondarily, his little unwrapped hands get SO cold at night (the rest of him is warm and the room temp is at the recommended 68°-72° so don’t worry).

So we are still deciding what we’re doing, LOL.

Advice from Facebook Friends

I posted my status as REALLY REALLY wish Owen would just take a freakin’ nap already. He’s soooo cranky. and received these responses:

Dayna C.—Put him to bed, and let him bawl. He’ll go to sleep, and be just fine. Tough love, mama, tough love!!

Jennifer M.—I agree with Dayna. He will learn to self-comfort and it will make a HUGE difference in his sleep habits, and yours:)
FYI- babies who don’t need much sleep are more intelligent. LOL

Me—Well, we just started real naps—putting him in the crib or pack-and-play (vs. letting him sleep on us or sit in his bouncy chair) so we want to give that a week or so first, before letting him cry. Besides the fact that it KILLS me to hear him cry (of course).

Robin W.—Man, I remember having that problem as well. I spent many afternoons just driving in the car while he slept. I didn’t get anything done, but I kept most of my sanity. Best of luck, Jen. Hope he starts taking some good naps soon.

Owen’s first restaurant!

We wanted to go out to eat with mom (Gramma Jean) before she left, so it was going to be Owen’s first meal out! I know, I know…we could have taken him out before this, but I was just always afraid it was going to end badly…yes, I’m a wussy first-time parent!

But it went very well—he slept almost the entire time, and we had a nice meal to boot!

He was still sleeping (or awake but calm!) when we left, so we decided to go grocery shopping as well (to show mom one of the great stores around here—Nino Salvaggios). He did well through that, too…good boy!

It’s a small world!

So a few weeks ago we learned (realized) that an old friend of my mom’s lives somewhat close by (maybe 30 minutes away)…and that we actually lived in their old neighborhood! (Lyssa and my mom have been friends since before I was born and they lived down the street from each other in Grayling.)

Since my mom was here helping out with Owen (while Tom was away at training) we thought it would be the perfect time for Lyssa to come visit. Of course we were talking about babies and doctors and whatnot, and she asked who my OB was. I told her, not really thinking anything about it—I mean, she’s been in the area for 15 years so maybe she had heard of her—but thinking most likely it was just general conversation. Until her eyes widened and said “No way!” Yep, it was her OB, too! And my doc had delivered one of her kid’s babies!

Small world!

Great sleep!

So the first night Lin took duty, Owen slept for about 7 hours (for the first stretch anyway)!! YAY OWEN!

The next night we were a bit more worried, because he took a THREE HOUR NAP from about 6p-9p!!!! I gave him a bottle at 9:15 and he was out cold by 9:45—totally off his normal schedule—so it was either going to be very bad or very good.

I was in the basement again, so didn’t find out until the next morning that…Owen slept for 7.5 hours!!! YAY OWEN!

And then last night, when I was back on duty, I was SURE that Owen would keep me up all night…but he didn’t! He slept for EIGHT HOURS!

Of course *I* didn’t sleep for eight hours because 1) I got up to pee three times and 2) I was sleeping more lightly, sure that he was going to wake up at any moment. When I did get up to feed him, he wasn’t even really awake awake, but he had been making noise for a little bit, and I figured I might as well go in and feed him so *I* could get back to sleep. Unfortunately, he only slept an hour afterwards, so we were both up at 6:30.

But hopefully this night trend will continue!!!

Nursery pics–finally!

We weren’t going to decorate the nursery at all because I just didn’t see the need. Owen won’t know any different, and we didn’t want to spend any money on anything special.

But then I saw monkey decals at Babies R Us. And I had to have them! They are SOOOOO cute!! And in a neat twist, the crib bumper that a good friend (thanks, Katie!) sent us matched the dots perfectly (as you can see in the first picture)!!

A close-up of the mommy, baby, and daddy monkey! SOOOO CUTE!!!

See, this is more like it.

So Owen didn’t nap much today…and Lin had offered to take the nightly duties…so when 7:00 rolled around, I suggested she try putting him down.

Then I went downstairs to not listen, LOL, and read a magazine.

I went up at 8 or so to check (i.e. listen at the door) and to my surprise, Lin was already done and reading a book!

She said he ate the whole 6oz bottle and didn’t even burp and didn’t even move or make a peep when she set him down. He was out COLD.

YAY!

So now we’re both wondering just how long he will sleep.

And hopefully I won’t find out until tomorrow morning at a decent hour, since I am sleeping in the basement to try and avoid hearing him at all so I can get a decent night’s sleep.

Stay tuned.

FRUSTRATION!

So the grandparents got here about 6:30 and were of course sad when 7:30 rolled around and it was Owen’s bedtime…but I wanted to keep to our sorta-schedule.

So we went upstairs and he ate like he normally does and burped like he normally does and fell asleep on me like he normally does and woke up and fussed a little when I layed him in his crib like he normally does

But then…he was awake. And I mean WIDE awake. Like eyes wide open and legs kicking and totally squirming wide awake.

For two hours. ❗

(Well, two hours total including feeding.) It normally takes 45 minutes to an hour, so I was losing my mind and getting VERY frustrated as it approached the 2-hour mark. I mean, nothing was out of the ordinary. He should have been going to sleep the same as always.

Except he wasn’t.

So I brought him back down and jokingly thrust him at them and said “You take him, I’m done!” Then I went up to bed and promptly fell asleep.

I felt bad for getting frustrated with him…I mean, he’s really a good baby and he just happened to not be tired (it happens to all of us, right?) but…I’m a new mom. Cut me some slack—I get used to how things work and get thrown when things suddenly change for no apparent good reason. 😐

That said, I am sure it probably wouldn’t have been so bad had I not been so exhausted from the previous night (morning?)—remember, I was up at 2am and only got about a 2-hour nap! The last thing I needed was a kid who refused to go to sleep!

So they kept him up and (as I found out the next morning) Lin put him to bed…at 1am!!!!! The little bugger stayed up another three or so hours!!!! 88| Of course, I had no idea what time he went down, so when I heard him squawking at about 4:30am, I got up to feed him. So he had only slept about 3.5 hours!!!

WHAT ON EARTH WAS GOING ON? I wondered. But who knows with babies.

A Weekend of Firsts

There were a lot of firsts for Owen this past weekend…

First (hee!) was his first long car ride—three hours north to Gramma Jean’s for his Grayling baby shower! (We tried to have it before he was born, but time just got away from us, plus it was winter…and we thought people would like to actually see him instead of just seeing me pregnant!)

Second, daddy took care of Owen during the night!! Tom and I slept in different rooms (it’s just very hard for us to both sleep in a double bed when we’re used to a king bed)…so one of us got Owen and one of us got Maggie. Tom was generous and took Owen, since he could sleep in! YAY!

Third, Owen got his first sitting-in-water bath (instead of just being soaped up and rinsed off):

Fourth, Owen had pictures taken outside! With ALL his grandparents! And his Grantie Marge (the name we came up with for Marge, since we couldn’t decide between Grandma Marge and Auntie Marge!)!! And his parents, of course. Since everyone was there for the shower—and it was SUCH a gorgeous day out—we decided (well, I strongly suggested) that we should take pictures outside!!

Grantie Marge Len, Grandma Marsha Hudson, Jen, Owen, Tom, Grandma Linda and Grandpa Mike Smith, Grandpa David and Gramma Jean Schwalm

Fifth, gramma Jean took care of Owen during the night!! I innocently asked if she wanted to and she said sure (that she could nap Sunday)!! OMG! YAY! So we moved the pack-and-play in there (where there was more room anyway :P) and mom and dad both had the chance for a good night’s sleep! Gramma confirmed the next morning that Owen is a little chatterbox all night long…well, not chatterbox so much maybe as a noisebox. 😀

And sixth, after a few weeks of maybe only pooping once every few days, Owen pooped THREE TIMES today! 88|

I had a first, too…after almost a glorious year of no periods (minus about the four weeks of post-delivery bleeding), my period started this morning. XX( Technically I should have been expecting it at any time, even though the books say if you are breastfeeding, it might be a LONG time before you got your period back… but I had just gotten SO used to not having it that it was a big surprise.

First Overnighter

For mom and dad, that is. :>>

Grandpa Mike and Grandma Linda were here for a few days, and Linda offered to take the night shift…and since there is no way I would get any sleep if I was in the same house and could hear him, we decided to get a hotel.

We wanted something close to home with an in-room jacuzzi for less than our monthly grocery budget (LOL). Seriously, most rooms I called about were upwards of $140! 88| So when we saw the marquee at Knights Inn saying a jacuzzi room was $69.95, we were in. We needed some “alone time,” some muscle relaxation, AND a full night’s sleep—so this place seemed perfect.

Unfortunately, it was much less than perfect.

It started with them not having our reservation—they mistakenly made the reservation for the night Tom called, not the night we requested. (The place was nearly empty, though, so it was no big deal. They also assured us they hadn’t charged us for that night. Um, good thing.) Then, I asked Tom how much it was (we got a military discount) and when he told me I said WHAT? They had quoted me less on the phone and charged him more than that. Ugh. But we were just excited to be out so we let it slide.

We could tell from the first moment entering the room that it was old and run down: the main light switch had a burned out bulb, there was an old room smell, and it just looked, well, cheap. Which is not what we wanted since we were paying almost $100. We had brought beverages for later, and were surprised to see no refrigerator—something we didn’t think to ask about since every jacuzzi room we’ve ever had has had a refrigerator (hell, most hotel rooms these days regardless of price have refrigerators). So we thought well we will just get ice and put everything in the sink. It’s a one-story drive-up-to-your-room hotel so we wondered where the ice machine was. I had to call the front desk. Oh, it’s IN the lobby. So Tom got in the car (yes, the car, it was quite a distance from our room) to get ice. The jacuzzi seemed just fine, and that was my major concern. We were going out to dinner so didn’t look much beyond that.

When we got back, we went to brush our teeth, the first thing I noticed was the splash of something (god knows what) on the wall. Ketchup? Blood? Soy Sauce? Egads. |-| But I figured as long as I didn’t have to touch it or go near it, I could live with it.

Then I noticed the sad state of the lights in the bathroom area—the plastic panels were bowing and coming out, and the support beams were rusty. Ick. But I could still live with it (see pics).

Then we went to brush our teeth and I noticed…no cups. Hmmm. Okay. I can’t say as if I’ve ever been in a hotel that didn’t have at least plastic cups, but whatever. We then went to spit in the toilet (since the sink was full of ice and beverages) and…lifted the lid…and…YUCK. Dirty. It looked like cigarette ash (it was a non-smoking room, though, so who knows—I didn’t want to get that close to check it out).

Okay, I was getting more upset, but still, not too bad. I hate to complain and/or make waves, so I can overlook a lot. That is, until I pulled back the shower curtain to use that faucet. There were pubic hairs in the tub. And not just one, like oops, I happened to miss that one in a far corner…but multiple hairs. GAG ME. It was at this point that I said no way am I staying in this room. Tom was out the door within moments, and back with a new room key.

In a totally different section of the hotel now, we entered our second room. And what a world of difference. Different smell. A mini fridge AND microwave! All light bulbs worked. No hanging and rusty light panels. No splashes of any unidentifiable substances on the walls. And no dirty toilet or pubic hairs. THANK GOD.

The room still wasn’t perfect—the wallpaper was bubbling in one area by the jacuzzi tub and the bathroom counters were a little sketchy, but no sanitary issues. So we stayed.

Unfortunately, the beds were extremely uncomfortable and the pillows were laughable (there were only two flat pillows for a king bed)—had we not been exhausted when we were ready for bed, we would have called for more pillows… And lastly, the room did not seem designed for a jacuzzi…meaning that there was no fan (aside from the small fan in the separate bathroom) so basically the entire surface of the room—walls, doors, windows, tile floor, etc.—were covered in condensation…even through to when we got up in the morning!

So, we didn’t sleep great, but at least we did get to sleep. The next time, we definitely get a nicer hotel…

First Overnighter

For mom and dad, that is. :>>

Grandpa Mike and Grandma Linda were here for a few days, and Linda offered to take the night shift…and since there is no way I would get any sleep if I was in the same house and could hear him, we decided to get a hotel. (That didn’t end up being the greatest experience, but it was nice to have a little break.)

Tom had to go to the exchange at Selfridge Air Force Base, so our time away started pretty early. Then we ate an early dinner and hit a few stores (including Buy Buy Baby—we had attempted to not do anything baby-related while we were out and about, but we just couldn’t resist since we were driving right by it).

I tried not to think too much about being away from Owen, because if I did, I would get a little sad. Not that I was worried or anything, it’s just that I have never had to leave him…while Tom, on the other hand, technically leaves him every day. Tom, sweetie that he is, took a short video of Owen before we left—and then brought the camera with us—so I could have a baby fix if I needed it. 🙂

We made it back home about 8am the next morning. (We would have stayed at the hotel longer, but we had to get ready to go to Reese for Easter.) We got the report that Owen pretty much kept the same sleep schedule (about 5 hours, then one hour, then one hour), so Grandma Linda got to experience the real deal. 😉

So, overall, I’m glad we did it—and we certainly wouldn’t be opposed to doing it again. 😀

Two-month checkup

So Owen had his two-month checkup this morning. I was most intrigued to find out just how much weight he had gained—the doc had said last month that she wanted to see him gain one pound by this appointment. While I was CERTAIN he had gained at least two pounds (or more), Tom was CERTAIN he had maybe gained the requested pound.

Want to take a guess who was right? :>>

Mr. Piggy gained—are you ready?—3 lbs. 12 oz. since his last appointment! He went from 8 lbs. 1 oz. to 11 lbs. 13 oz!!! 88|

HOLY WAH!

Does a mom know or does a mom know? 😉 (Although, granted, even I underestimated how much he gained.)

He also gained about 1.5″ in length (although I joke that I swear he grew about eight inches!). If I recall correctly, he is currently in the 25th percentile for head size, 50th percentile for length, and 75th percentile for weight.

Then came the NOT FUN part…vaccinations. All five of them. XX( The oral one went perfectly fine—it’s apparently sweet and babies like it. So, one down, four to go. The next was a twofer (combination of vaccinations) in one shot in one leg and then two individual shots in the other leg. The nurse was wonderful and could not have been nicer or done the shots more quickly…but of course by the time she got to the second leg, he was SCREAMING. I have never seen his little face so red. She said it wasn’t really the needles that bothered them so much, but rather the actual medicine that hit their system. Poor little guy.

It actually wasn’t too bad on me, either—thankfully. But then, his screaming didn’t last all that long, and soon he was back in his carrier with his pacifier and then he was out cold. The doc warned us of all the possible side effects—including major crankiness and a potential 102° fever for the next two (TWO!) days—but so far, knock on wood, he’s just been sleeping. He did wake up long enough to take a bottle, but now he’s sleeping again:

I certainly hope this is his only side effect…
