Attempted nap time

Tom came home from work early today and surprised us! I’ve recently moved Owen’s nap from 1:00 to 1:30 (as he only sleeps maybe 1.5 hours anymore) so he was still going to be up when Tom got home.

Tom wanted to nap (since he was up at 3:30 this morning) but Owen wanted to be with him, so Owen promised to TRY and nap next to him. I was downstairs with Katie and heard activity so knew it wasn’t going well. Then Tom yelled down that he was getting the Xbox ready for Owen.

Later, Tom told me what happened. He said it was so cute because Owen was really trying hard to be still and stay quiet but he was a ball of energy. Tom was sneakily watching him and saw Owen just grinning and grinning.

Tom: Owen, what are you thinking about?
Owen: Grannie and Papa.
Tom: What about Grannie and Papa?
Owen: They’re at home.

And then he was intrigued by the ceiling (which has an octagonal cut out). So nap time was over. 🙂

Me: Owen, why are you chewing on that [the tail of the rubber snake, which is wrapped around his wrist]?
Owen: Because it gives me energy to run around.

Owen: Can I watch my TV now?
Me: No.
Owen: Please? Please? Triple please?
Me: No.
Owen: I need watch some TV mama.
Grannie: Why?
Owen: Because I have to. Pretty please with peaches on top. Very please. Very please. Very please. [Climbs on top of me and snuggles in.] VERY PLEASE. VERY VERY PLEASE.

Owen is dancing around.
Me: Owen, do you have to go potty?
Owen: No.
Dances around some more.
Me: Owen—GO POTTY!
Owen: OKAAAAAAAAY!!!

At the park, to Tom:
Owen: Don’t follow me. Go stand by mama.

I told Owen to go downstairs and tell Papa that he had to put on his matching Cookie Monster shirt later tonight so I could take a picture. I’m listening from the stairwell.
Owen: Papa. Papa! Excuse me—I have to tell you something. You need to put your shirt on tonight. TONIGHT! Mama is going to take a picture of you and me.

Road trip!

Tom had to go to Raleigh to see one of his marines who was in the hospital, so we decided to make a day of it and take Owen with us (leaving Katie at home with Grannie and Papa). We thought it would be a special treat for Owen…which it was, after the tantrums stopped. He knew he was going with us—we reaffirmed it time after time—but it didn’t stop him from asking 74 times and whining for unknown reasons (like when Papa simply tried to talk to him).

Anyway.

He was a trooper on the car ride (and even enjoyed sharing our chocolate shake).

He was a trooper at the hospital. He was a trooper at Costco. Then he fell asleep in the 15 minute drive to Trader Joes…

…so he was a bit cranky when we woke him up…and he demanded he take his B with him out of the car (which we rarely allow).

Then it was off to the park.

And amazingly, he actually went down the slides—and liked it! (He used to go on the slides in Troy, but for some reason he stopped liking them when we moved away.)

Owen picked up a toy Katie had been chewing on:
Owen: Oh! It’s ruined.
Me: It’s not ruined.
Owen: Yes it is. It’s soggy. Pause. Soggy. Say soggy.

Owen climbing on the furniture:
Whoopee! I love having fun!

And a new response to just about everything we ask him to do:

Me: Owen, you need to get the balloon and come back down here.
Owen: I can do that!

Me: Owen, please put your toys away.
Owen: I can do that!

Me: Owen, bring your milk and sit at the table please.
Owen: I can do that.

Me: Go turn off your [bedroom] stuff.
Owen: I can do that.

Me: Put your underwear on please.
Owen: I can do that. I can dooo that!

Katie was on the floor, pulling on Owen’s B that was hanging off the chair onto the floor:
Owen: No, Katie, this is my blanket. O-W-E-N spells Owen that’s me.

Yeah baby!

Owen was putting away his Lego pieces by tossing them from about two feet away. With each one he got in the basket, he’d say “Yeah baby!” So it goes like this:

The piece makes it in.
Yeah baby!
The piece makes it in.
Yeah baby!
The piece makes it in.
Yeah baby!
The piece makes it in.
Yeah baby!
The piece DOESN’T make it in.
Noooo baby!

🙂

Will Katie be my good eater?

So far she’s eaten avocado, egg yolk, banana, potato, canned peas, baby carrots, freeze dried strawberries, and pancakes. She doesn’t eat a lot of anything, but she hasn’t spit anything out. Her favorite is…yogurt! 🙂

Black beans, meatballs, and canned pears are on the lineup for today…and blueberries and sweet potatoes are on the shopping list.

That said, I’m finding it difficult to wrap my head around what to feed her since I’m SO conditioned from Owen not really liking anything when he was a baby.
