The kids love this park—and it’s right down the road from the house—so we took them there tonight!
And the best of the bunch.
It’s time to pick up the kids from grandparent camp!
First, my traveling face. LOL
We had to drop Olive off at the sitter’s (we’ll take her next year once she’s more potty trained). She loves car rides!
Stopping for lunch at a gas station! They opened the side of the RV and we had a quick non-fast-food lunch!
The last 15 miles looks like this.
We’ve arrived!
And Lin had bought Thimbleberry margaritas so that happened first thing!
Tonight we tried to replicate Chicago Woodfire Pizza’s Wood Roasted Corn Pizza. The second attempt was actually better than this first one but they were both delicious!
David texted to say he had planned on doing yardwork but this happened…so he was obviously stuck.
And these two are just too cute. Is Olive really just absentmindedly stretching or is she sneakily trying to get Honey to play with her? You be the judge.
She’s a sun dog whenever she goes
First calm snuggles after she went crazy upon our return.
And we learned that Tom cannot show Honey any attention otherwise Olive goes batshit crazy barking and attacking!
Saying goodbye!
Finally home…
Anna and David are watching Olive while we’re in Michigan this weekend.
No, she’s not being spoiled.
Tom and Dave took Owen and Evan to Milwaukee for a major league baseball game!
Since the boys were at a baseball game, Anna and I decided to go out for dinner…and Mexican and margaritas sounded perfect!
Outdoor movie night — Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure! Katie didn’t care for it, Owen enjoyed it. We couldn’t believe it was 35 years ago.
For as much as I take pictures of everything we do, I seemingly always let it slip on pool party day. At least I got one of both kids.
This one was from a friend.
And this was as we were packing up—Anna found a little grasshopper and put it on Katie.
The party was a big success again! All the kids love it! And it’s easy since we don’t have to clean the house.
We might be watching Top Gun until it gets dark…and then we can watch something else with the kids.
Grilled Aldi steaks, garlic cheese bread in the Ooni pizza oven, and salad! And a margarita because DUH.
Olive came home from Dave and Anna’s with a new look.
Olive was being very bitey and Anna was trying to flick her in the nose while avoiding the teeth. I managed to snap this action photo! It looks like they’re jamming to music!
Great weather (after the horrible heat and humidity wave we had), a nice breeze, SEATS IN THE SHADE, friends (Anna and Kelly!), good music, peanut M&Ms, a cold beverage, and a library book!
And makeup that would stay on if I dared to go swimming — I did go in up to my neck as a starter!
All that’s missing are shawls and readers (they’ll come out soon). What you can’t see: margaritas.
Olive is helping:
We haven’t seen each other in person in about eight years, so when she was going to be in Chicago for a work convention, she just added on a few extra days to come stay here!
Unfortunately our planning failed a bit and she couldn’t get an Uber out of the city so at 4:30 we had to drive and pick her up in downtown Chicago!
We drove straight back to our favorite restaurant, Primo, for dinner with Anna and David. We had a great time…and we introduced Kelly to the deer.
Then it was back to our house for drinks and conversation! And a new friendship was forged tonight—now we just need to get Kelly to move here.
P.S. I think we look pretty good — it was a hot and crappy day and our makeup still looks spot on!
Olive just loves Honey SOOOO much. She gets the butt wiggles every time.
She paws at her face.
And then she’s tuckered out.
When one of us is in our egg chair, we call the other to see if we happen to be in our chairs at the same time. We rarely are. Tonight we were.!
It had been waaay too long since we’d all been together so we went out for brunch!
She was on Anna’s lap, but still…
Today’s argument with Katie was about how long to microwave a large container of Panera Mac and cheese.
She said “30 seconds because it wasn’t in the freezer” and I said it would probably need at least 3-4 minutes, but start with 1:30. I hear a sigh of annoyance. She says it’s hot. I say there’s no way it can be. She brings me my bowl and obviously it’s still completely cold.
I tell her that it needs more and you would not believe the attitude I get. Like I am the biggest inconvenience in the world and she’ll do it but it doesn’t need it. I ask if she tasted it. No. Then how can you tell it’s the right temperature? She doesn’t know.
Every. Day.
I told Anna and she said:
This is like my kids having a freaking meltdown about not being able to find something and then when I ask them where they’ve looked, they haven’t looked anywhere that makes sense. Missing your shoes? Did you check in the mudroom where your shoes go? No? Only checked the refrigerator? Just gonna have a full-blown meltdown about it anyway? OK then.
I was taking care of Anna’s animals for a day and their newest cat, Ash, gave me lots of loving. Kai also got his face in there, too.
Owen and Evan had a game afterward and Tom and Owen had to leave right from graduation.
As a school board member, Anna was able to hand her kids their diplomas.
Heading out to celebrate Evan and Aiden’s 8th grade graduation with dinner at Primo!
