I might be spoiling myself after innumerable hours of work this past month by sitting outside on the patio reading a real book—I can’t remember the last time I did this…and it’s heaven.

It’s finally spring!
It was warm enough today to be outside without a coat! We uncovered the table and chairs and put the umbrella up!
April 15th. Are you kidding me?
I figured out why we haven’t seen spring yet!!
I still have my apple cider soap out. That’s a fall/winter scent. So today I switched it out for lilac. You’re welcome.
This is what she played outside in today. And I kept my mouth shut.
It was literally 30° out. She only lasted about 10 minutes…if that. Did I win?
The kids finally broke me.
When I imagined being a parent, I never thought I’d have to argue every damn morning about whether the kids had to wear a coat. Owen thinks a sweatshirt is fine. I mean, he stuck his hand outside and it wasn’t cold so that proves he doesn’t need a coat, right? When it’s windy and he has to stand at the bus stop for five minutes.
By the end of the day I’d actually decided that it was up to them to decide what to wear. I told them I wouldn’t care if they were cold, we would not come home to get a coat/hat/gloves, if they missed out on recess (or whatever else—I don’t know what rules the school might have) it was their tough luck. They thought that was grand and skeptically asked over and over if they could just wear the sweatshirt/light coat/hoodie. Like they couldn’t believe their good fortune.
Stay tuned.
The curse of a long-haired girl on a windy day.
We make our own sidewalks.
Our side of the street doesn’t have sidewalks so our neighbors both snow blow paths.
You know it’s cold if I’m wearing a damn hat.
First act of 2018?
Winterizing the house. Ugh. These negative temps combined with old windows that are broken and need replacing…is just killer.
Also, we’ve done this in EVERY rental house. Our future house will. be. well. insulated.
An expected high of 5 today. FIVE.
Playing in the snow at Gramma’s!
Owen wanted to be buried!
Greetings from the Great White Snowy North!
Yes it’s pretty…I’ll give you that.
It’s beginning to look a lot like…
Excuse my French. LOL
Though honestly I wouldn’t say that until it was a bit more blizzard-y.
When it’s snowing as the kids get home from school, this happens.
It’s been quite a bit colder in the mornings…
A walk with Grandpa
Playing in the snow with cousins!
It’s snowing. On October 28th.
The only positive is now, according to my own previously set rules, I can officially listen to Christmas music.
How I spent my day.
It’s already chilly enough in the mornings for long pants and a hoodie!
Gurnee gets the win for weather.
Who knew rain could be so fun?
So much for the garage being fixed.
Playing and helping in the rain.
This is how she dressed to go out for dinner.
A boy and his umbrella.
Enjoying some sun on the front steps.
Enjoying the sunshine at the playground
What a perfect night…
The weather was so awesome that we ate dinner outside and then just hung out. Tom rarely posts on Facebook so you know something was seriously good if he does…
Had a great Spring day. Took the kids out Pokémon hunting in the morning. Wood working followed by little league practice (pitching to an awesome group of kids), grilling flank steak and drinking really good beer on the deck and watching my wonderful kids play together and read bed time stories.
Truly I do not know if life can get any better. Life is great!
Owen was reading to us (getting his daily reading homework done!) and then it got dark so he was reading by iPhone light. The two books he picked to read to Katie were Hooray for Diffendoofer Day (Seuss) and The History of the American Flag.
