Too much makeup for play dates? Nah.

So this might be a little bit much for two play dates at the park today but I wanted to wear my blue Lularoe cardigan so I wanted to try matching my eyes just because I’ve gotten a little too complacent wearing the same exact colors every single day. I also added the tiniest bit of Medium CCTM because my face is getting a slightly bit darker even though I’m staying out of the sun as much as possible.

Still trying to figure out the best lighting.

I took the pics a little later than normal and my birch trees were starting to be a little shadow-y. So then I just did it in my bathroom so you could maybe see the shadows better.

Anyhoo, the Garnet definitely looks darker in person. And though I have been enjoying not wearing LipSense as much…my face does look kinda naked without it. 😂

Today ended up to be a busy day.

First, home demo. (Masks off for a pic!)

I finished my look after Angel left… I forget how good Mirage is. And Cinnamon Shimmer.

Second, a visit with a friend/playdate for the kids.

Third, an unexpected driveway visit with the people who are living in our old rental house (I was dropping off some stuff were accidentally moved that belonged to the owners).

Fourth, an unexpected trip to our park to visit with Hannah, a friend I hadn’t seen in a long time. (The kids went down there randomly and were surprised to see their friends who don’t live in this neighborhood!)

Fifth. Bag collection, sorting, and folding by the kids. They didn’t love it. Didn’t care. It was something they could do.

Tom’s turn with some neighbors!

So one of the neighbor guys (completely unrelated to any of the women I met) came over and invited Tom to a beer night!

While he was gone he texted me this:

And then didn’t answer…for like five minutes! So I was all freaking out. Then he finally continued…

It turns out all the guys (couples) had been friends of the past owners!

That was all I heard from him until he walked in around 11:30. He didn’t say much—which made me a little crazy because I wanted to know all about them. I found out in the morning that he was a little more drunk than he thought so he just went straight to bed. Haha.

It’s never just a small project.

It was supposed to be a quick and easy project: repaint the front door. Tom had a new paint sprayer and it should have taken 30 minutes. Should have being the key phrase.

Tom started to paint the door and got clumps and spatter and he had no idea what was wrong and it was drying and it was a disaster. He tried to fix it with what he had handy (all our paint stuff was obviously packed away) and I was trying to be helpful by googling the brand of paint and the brand of sprayer and hints but it was just not a good time.

Longer story short, turns out the sprayer hadn’t been fully cleaned after the last job. Doh! Lesson learned. So once that was fixed—and once the door was scrubbed with hot soapy water and then sanded—the door was painted in about two minutes.

Thankfully we had enough paint left to do the door…plus my cement Michigan!

BUT THEN! We had also wanted to put new hardware on and that was an epic disaster. It took FIVE attempts (from least to most expensive!) over a week to get working hardware:

  1. Amazon refurb—was missing pieces.
  2. Amazon new (same as refurb)—broke during install!
  3. Home Depot—after much debate we settled in one and Tom got it fully installed…and then realized the keys were missing (it had obviously been returned).
  4. Home Depot—deadbolt too big (who knew there were two sizes?)
  5. Home Depot—a winner! Finally!

But it looks good!!

Moms night down the street!

So I’ve been chatting with the ladies I met from my “ad” for friends and tonight we had a meet and greet at a house down the street—so I walked there with my bag of margaritas! We all sat around the fire socially-distanced style and visited for hours! Everyone was great and I am totally excited about being friends with them! It went so well that I was there until almost 2am! (Yes I was the last one there but not by much!)

My body told me to stop.

Apparently working multiple long days unpacking boxes and squatting to load cabinets and going up and down our stairs 18 times a day took its toll on me…and both my knees finally screamed STOP. As in I pretty much couldn’t walk. I powered through yesterday because it was just mostly annoying—and I tried to take it easy—but today I was totally out of commission. Thankfully Heidi came to my rescue with a great ice wrap (all of our stuff is packed somewhere) so I spent my whole day on the couch. Fun times!

Note: After two days of rest, ice, and elevation the pain is gone but towards the end of the day I can feel it starting to hurt so now I have a brace!

Katie learned cleaning does not equal shoving.

So this is what happens when you “clean” your room by shoving everything into your closet after mom clearly says that’s not the solution—mom dumps it all in the middle of the room!

No, they don’t need immaculate rooms, but it also shouldn’t look like a garbage pit less than two weeks after moving in. It took her ALL DAY yesterday to do about an hour’s worth of actual work (because kids) but now it’s at least decent.

And honestly, it was this or it was all going in the garbage. That’s where I’m at with all their crap. 

We weren’t expecting this…

I found this couch for CHEAP on Nextdoor and knew it would be perfect for the basement…but the basement was FULL of boxes. Like floor to ceiling in this room (I can’t believe I forgot a before pic). So yesterday it was my mission to clear out enough space so we could get the couch. I busted my ass (the kids barely helped, of course) and Tom helped move what I couldn’t finish into the corner and voila!

You guys. I am at a standstill.

You would think that I would’ve been completely overwhelmed before this point in the move but today I think is it. I just can’t get started on anything and I have so much left to do.

The office is kind of picked up and I have things randomly on shelves but nothing is how I want it and my printers aren’t hooked up so I couldn’t even ship something out if I wanted to. So you would think that would be the first thing I needed to do.

But I really want the kitchen to be put together because it makes me crazy to walk in there and I can’t prepare a meal because there’s stuff all over the place.

And I really wanna get my bathroom set up because that’s where I need to work and do lives but it doesn’t feel comfortable yet and so I feel like that’s the most important thing.

I could go on and on but I’ll stop there.

I just need to get back into my groove and I know that it takes time after moving but I’m kind of going crazy feeling like it’s taking too long AND I JUST WANT TO GET BACK TO NORMAL.

The attack of the Tupperware!

Anna didn’t believe me when I said I had A LOT of kitchen stuff. Today we tackled the plastic storage. She also couldn’t believe we use all of this and I assured her we use the majority of it. (We were matching lids so these will condense but it’s still a lot.)

So I admit it’s a bit frightening to see ALLLLL your plastic storage out at one time…. But that’s what happens when you move and have to find a new home for everything!!

  • Rubbermaid
  • Lock & Lock (looooove these)
  • Tupperware (can you spot the vintage pieces?!)
  • deli containers (good for stackable freezing and food prep)
  • take out containers (great for sending home food after a party)
  • OXO pop containers

Yes it seems like a lot, but we really do honestly use most of these. I freeze a lot of food and we’ve been eating out of the freezer to prep for the move so most of these will go back in the freezer once I start cooking again!

Are you a storage fiend like me? Or am I insane?
