#5differentlookchallenge

It snowed every so lightly this morning so I can officially play Christmas music! (But if y’all really know me you know I’ve been listening to it for awhile now.)

When your husband is out playing poker with the boys, you invite your bestie over to play in makeup. (I am sure the kids are still alive downstairs somewhere.) And then since we had our make up freshly done at 8 o’clock we went out to Marshalls.

We had to go pick up a Facebook purchase for Katie’s room and I knew we’d be close to some parks…and it was finally a sunny day…so we dragged the whole family along. We hadn’t been here before but we will definitely be back! Lots of parking, lots of great trails (paved and wooded), pavilions, bathrooms, a lake…and a ton of Pokémon stops!!

Looong story short the house fridge died so we initiated a warranty claim. They couldn’t fix it so they cut us a check for $2k. We had already moved our old fridge from the garage to the house so we did have a working fridge… but we needed to decide if we were just going to buy a garage fridge or if we should get a brand new fridge for the house and put ours back in the garage.
It would obviously be cheaper to just buy a garage fridge, but even the cheapest new one was $500 and it was small. We looked at the local sales forums and there wasn’t much. We only considered buying a brand new house fridge because ours is getting a little old (8) and it would be our luck that it would die shortly after spending money on something else.
But in the end we lucked into a special order (and dented) return at Lowe’s. It’s a restaurant-type cooler—no freezer, which is fine since we have the full upright. Plus Tom’s military discount. Plus a rebate. So now we have leftover for our dishwasher if they come back in stock and go on sale!

Here’s my new toy—a facial steamer! I’ve wanted one for awhile now and it went on sale during Prime Day!

I’ve never done that before it was definitely a learning experience. That little machine packs a lot of punch. It was really hot and I had to keep moving my face farther and farther away. They said not to be closer than 25cm but in my mind I was thinking millimeters so yeah…I was too close. And I had sweat dripping down my face after just a minute. And it is no joke when they warn you that the heated washcloth will be burning hot.
It felt really good and my skin felt glowy. I recommend it!

And she’s turning into a little lady. Who loves lipstick and makeup.

But this time we know it was one of our neighborhood mom group… And this isn’t my basket but someone else’s because my kids tore into ours so fast I couldn’t get a picture. At least they handed me the wine.

I’m an open book with you guys. The first pic is how I feel today—I slept like crap and my back really hurts. And I opted for no makeup and no product in my hair. And that’s what I saw when I opened my camera. Ewww. But if you angle the camera differently and smile… It’s an entirely different look. If you don’t like your look or your mood, change your perspective!!
Tonight was our first real movie on our new pseudo movie screen—the big 10×14 wall in our living room.

So one night a few days ago the doorbell rang and we didn’t think much of it since Amazon always rings the bell and we get lots of deliveries. But the kids usually run out to see. Today Katie did and said she saw a kid running away—but he left a bag of Halloween goodies with a note that we had to pass it on! We looked at our camera feed and saw the kid but we have no idea who it is! Well the kids were super excited for TREATS! CANDY! SLIME! and definitely wanted to Boo other people.
Thankfully Tom stepped up and did it with them because while I did want to be a part of the neighborhood, I didn’t really want to do all of it. He took them shopping. He supervised the building of the baskets. My contribution was printing out the instruction. Then Tom took them to the houses where they successfully delivered the baskets without being seen!
This big empty wall will be good for something! Kudos to us for thinking of it and Tom figuring it out and making it work!

One of the kids cut this tumeric this morning. Both flat out deny it. I know it’s not a big deal but OMG I am furious that they can’t just admit it.
I didn’t even get mad. I told them they weren’t in trouble. I wanted whoever it was too help me decide how and when to use it. They both still denied it.
I told both of them that I didn’t care that it was cut but that because we had discussed the staining issue last night (when they first saw it and asked what it was, I told them how badly it could stain everything) I wished they would’ve washed the knife. They both still deny it.

Fast forward to that evening.
We talked to them both. We said no one was getting in trouble, we weren’t mad, we just want them to tell the truth. Both still deny it.
So then we told them they needed to talk to each other and then tell us together who did it. After about five minutes they both said they didn’t do it. GRRR.
The thing is that it’s ALL THE TIME about stupid and annoying stuff, nothing that’s a huge deal. Things that happen all the time?
It’s exhausting.

So today we did a thing. Britt is a busy mom of two littles and came to me bare-faced hating her skin…and left with such a HUGE smile on her face and LOVING her new easy look in colors she never would have picked. New to her? Pink shadow. Darker pink lips. Filled in brows. It was so exciting watching her discover how great she looked in these products and the awe she experienced looking at herself. And she was amazed how great they worked compared to her $$$ products.
P.S. I kinda hate how amazing her lashes look and I will now be attempting to apply my own mascara exactly like she did because wowza.
P.P.S. Yes we forgot a before photo. 😣

It’s a cold, gray, rainy day. Blurgh. Is winter over yet?! Why did we choose to retire here again?

The running joke for countless years has been that Tom was only in this marriage for my dad’s tools. Well, the time has finally come…my dad agreed to give up some of his tools that he just doesn’t use anymore.
So Tom and David drove up to the U.P. with a trailer (and David’s truck) to haul everything back. David had never been up there before so of course Tom had to take him up Brockway Mountain.
They were only there for about an hour and a half siteseeing and loading and then it was back home in the same day! They left at 5a and got home shortly after 10p!

Why? Because I’ve asked her about six times to clear all the clothes off the floor and the dresser.

I picked out everything that was too small and put it in the donate pile. The rest went in a garbage bag which I told her she could have back if she finished cleaning up her room. She liked that idea…but it never happened. (And still hasn’t happened as of 10/21.)
Owen came downstairs in a brand new blue shirt and jeans. Bestill my heart. Of course there was hair and outfit drama with Katie…so that was fun.

She was in such a state that I told her we’d try her photos another day and then headed out in the yard (I made him take one photo with the collar up)…

And then it was down the street to the park.

Where Katie finally joined us. In a different outfit and a much better mood!

I told Katie to tickle him…

Tried to get them both jumping. It was a riot.

Her turn…

Back at home…

(I can’t remember whether we got them freshman or sophomore year.) Also I can’t believe college was that long ago.
