Thanksgiving 2023 is over…
Thanksgiving Day 2023
Friends of ours—Scott and Wendy—also joined us this year as she was visiting from Seattle and they didn’t have other plans! She loves Thanksgiving and cooking so she brought most of the sides to go with Tom’s smoked turkey and smoked ham!
Thanksgiving tip? Gravy in an insulated pitcher! Pourable plus it stays warm!
The evening was spent watching football, playing cards, puzzling, and visiting!
Pre-Thanksgiving 2023
Everyone was coming for Thanksgiving again this year! So Day 1 dinner prep—smoked ribs—started early!
Gramma Fixit
Yay! Gramma and grandpa are here early for Thanksgiving! So we put Gramma to work sewing up a hole in the beanbag!! Olive thought it was a perfect spot to nap.
It was all fun and games until…
It took longer to check out than we anticipated and consequently we didn’t have enough time to go to a restaurant like we had talked about (in order to make it back in time for her parent/teacher conferences). So she was pissy. We still went to Panera for takeout but she still wasn’t happy. I can’t wait for this stage to be over.

Deer camp day 3: driving
There were no more deer to be had, but Owen had another first—Tom let him drive his truck on the back roads to camp!
This is how teens make their bed.
Yep, just leave the mattress protector scrunched down at the bottom in the corner and pull the sheets over it. (I discovered it because I was removing all his bedding to wash before Thanksgiving guests and I thought maybe a towel had gotten stuck in the sheets.)

After a rough instructional pancake session last night that ended with both of us upset, she did these all on her own today!
They seriously must be touching at all times.

Deer camp day 2: success!
Owen got his first deer! In one perfect shot! Needless to say Tom was a proud papa.
Owen got to drive the 4-wheeler (and deer) back to camp!
And while he didn’t take a bite of the raw heart (apparently a first-deer tradition?!) they did eat it cooked with onions with dinner!
Basket of toys + doggy door
They have a basket of toys. They also have a doggie door. So of course all of the toys end up out in the yard…which means they get dirty and need to be washed. They just all got washed and put back in the box last night.
Friday Fave: spoiling customers
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—my love language is gift-giving! So I love creating events for y’all where I can give away extra gifts!
First day of deer camp at Ozzy’s Acres
My cousins Kevin and Greg invited Tom and Owen to go deer hunting. Tom hadn’t been hunting since we met (!) and he was very eager to go and take Owen for his first time. Ammunition for his old gun was exorbitantly expensive so he “had” to buy a new gun and everything!

I was very confused to get something from the Orthodontist in Owen’s handwriting. But then I saw what it was. Too cute.

We are having the whole family here for Thanksgiving and need the kids’ rooms for guests, which means Katie’s room needed SERIOUS attention. Like more than just being cleaned up…because it smelled. So once it was picked up and cleaned out, we cleaned the carpets. I made her take a turn so she learns how much work it is and will hopefully (?) try to keep it clean. (Yeah I’m not holding my breath.) She was less than thrilled.
