What a morning.

I’ve been up since 6:30 when Katie started screaming.

The cats have barfed three times.

Katie made a terrific mess out of bananas and granola bars.

I discovered my kitchen sink has been leaking for who knows how long and I haven’t the first clue how to fix it (so am hoping a friend can come over). All the towels stored underneath were soaked.

Owen pooped his pants (the first time since the hospital) and then filled the toilet with about a half roll of TP trying to wipe (zero success, BTW).

And Katie won’t stop screaming when I’m out of her sight.

Pool Day

We had an invite for the beach today, but I just am not ready to take Katie and Owen to the beach. Owen would be fine, but I have no idea if Katie will be a content to sit and play in the sand baby or if she’d be a run up and down the beach baby—and didn’t really have the energy to find out today…so I passed…but invited others over for the pool. One mom came over (the same one who went out to dinner with me on my anniversary) and it was great.

Getting ready for the sun:

This is what happened when I asked the kids to pose. She did and Owen looks like he’s attacking her! 🙂

Unfortunately, Katie was a total crankypants—the first time since she’s started this recent teething episode. But she liked the watermelon (and wanted to share, as you will see in the video).

I finally got out the baby pool we had when Owen was little (Tom just found it before he left):

And it was HOT. And with the running around with the kids and getting the air compressor out of the shed, yada yada yada, I really wanted to go in the pool. Ruth said “Sure, go ahead!” So I did! I spent about 15 minutes in with the kids—and Ruth even got Katie into a swim diaper and then brought her to the pool with us! Then Ruth even got in up to her knees to cool off. It was really, really great and I appreciated it immensely!

Hanging out with Katie

The best pic I could get of her new outfit from Gramma Jean:

As soon as she sees me toss clean laundry in the chair, she’s over there like a shot. Usually she pulls everything off the chair but today she just played with stuff.

And hanging out with Owen again:

New window seat…and desk.

Someone is happy that we rearranged the office and she has her window seat back.

And I guess this is as good a time as any to show pictures of the new desk Tom built… I’ve been meaning to post them but then it got later and later (and you know how I like to have posts on the day they actually happen) until I kinda gave up. But today works.

Though the desk has been a work-in-progress for months (he started with gusto and then took a long break and then finished with gusto!) we finally got it put together on August 1.

Ahhh, so nice and empty. I still REALLY miss the orange. 🙁

The three-piece L-shaped desk! That white cabinet (aka old printer stand) is now placed at the end of Tom’s section of the desk (which is just out of frame). It now has the scanner sitting on it, unplugged, since we rarely use it (I have a Fujitsu ScanSnapthat I love and use more).

Tom did a really great job and it’s SOOOO much better than the [two-year] temporary desk we had in there. (We used to have an L-shaped desk in here, but after a few PCS moves, it was a little shaky.)

“Maggie’s” new bed

So while we were out running a few last-minute errands, we bought Maggie a nice new fluffy bed. As soon as we set it down, someone else found it (I told you she’s just like a cat).

Then Maggie found it.

2013-08-07kids075

Then Katie decided SHE wanted to be in the bed…and Maggie wanted NO part of that. So it was round robin for a bit…Katie out, Maggie in…Katie back, Maggie out.

2013-08-07kids076

Then Owen got involved and Maggie gave up and went back to her stack of blankets on the hearth.

And BOY did the kids have fun in there.

I wanna see out there!

As soon as you open the blinds, she’s RIGHT THERE trying to climb up and over the couch to see outside. Especially if her brother is out there!

And a great picture of her mis-matched jammies. It’s what happens when you have three-piece sets (one top, shorts, and pants)—you end up with odd pieces for a night here and there!

Katie got bit!

So, Katie loves playing with Charlie. For the most part, Charlie doesn’t mind—but every once in awhile she’ll have enough and give Katie a swat (she has no claws so it’s not dangerous). Sometimes Katie stops…sometimes she doesn’t. Once in awhile Katie gets a quick nip and it shocks her but doesn’t really hurt her.

Until tonight.

She got bit HARD. At first we didn’t think too much about it but she was screaming harder and louder (and longer) than normal…so I took a peek…and saw blood. Yep, Charlie bit her hand so hard it drew blood. Poor kid. ((A day later you can still see the teeth marks and bruising.))
