Subtitled: I want that car.
Both entranced by Sesame Street:
…I got to see Top Gun on the big screen!!!
Why didn’t I see it in 1986? Because I was 12 (or 13) and my mom saw it first and said “It’s just a bunch of planes flying around and it made me sick.”
I KNOW, RIGHT?!
So I’ve watched it about 25 times on VHS…then DVD…just waiting for the day it MIGHT come back to the theater.
And that time was now…for a special limited release in IMAX 3D!
To help promote the films upcoming 3D Blu-ray release on February 19, Paramount decided to re-release the classic in a six day run that started on Friday, where the film averaged about $6,600 per screen.
And it was only an hour away in Wilmington so HELLS YEAH I was going! WOOHOO!!!
We considered it an anniversary [of when we met in February 1997] / Valentine’s Day outing so ate a sushi lunch first then walked down the street to the theater where I saw this:
And had to have some!
Yum!
Then it was off to the movie. Aren’t the 3D glasses stunning?
And the movie was AWESOME! Wow. The 3D aspects didn’t blow me away…but there were some cool aspects and the actors felt very close and sometimes it felt like you were IN the cockpit with them!
Also, interestingly, with the awesome THX surround sound, I heard A LOT more of the background noises that just melted away in TV showings even with a decent home surround sound system (like a running shower and background music that were never as pronounced).
It was my first actual 3D movie (other than Honey, I Shrunk the Kids at Disney about 20 years ago or 3D/IMAX attractions at Cedar Point) and I’d have to say 3D has come a long way. And it took a good 20 or so minutes until I finally stopped noticing that I was watching the movie through glasses and just enjoyed it without distraction. Well, except I had to pee about 30 minutes in but hell if I was going to miss one second of the movie after waiting 26 years!
We ended our day’s outing with a trip to Costco…so it was a great day! And I can cross See Top Gun on the big screen off my bucket list!
Owen is really becoming a parrot—and learning from watching Sesame Street. His favorite new “Word on the Street” is stumble—as he fake-demonstrates it all the time. And he LOVES the Elmo’s World theme song:
So we were watching this…
…and Owen was on the floor playing. He looked up and says “Go. No.”
Wait. What?
Me: Owen, what did you say?
Silence.
Tom rewound it.
Me: Owen, what does that say?
Owen: Go no.
Me: Owen! You just read your first word!
Owen: Can I have 15 minutes?
So…yay! He read his first word. But…boo! He’s switching letters (he also switches numbers).
WARNING: It’s a long video, because its the first ~8 minutes of the movie.
It’s much cuter in person—and when you’re familiar with the movie—but this is what he does EVERY time we watch the movie. Normally he sees me recording and hides but today he let me!
We recently got The Lorax DVD and Owen loves it. LOVES IT. It’s really cute and has catchy music so I don’t mind that we’ve watched it eight times in the last week, including twice today. 🙂
This is usually how it goes down, every time:
Me: Owen, what movie do you want to watch?
Owen: Lorax, he talks to trees.
Then he laughs and dances at all the same parts…but each time we watch it he talks about it more and asks questions. I love it.
I finally caught it in time! This is what Owen does EVERY time this scene from Tangled comes on. When you see him cover his face towards the end, that’s when Pascal (Rapunzel’s chameleon) covers his eyes as the two characters lean in to kiss. I tear up each time I watch this.
After it was over (and of course after I’d stopped recording) he said “Mama! I singed to you!”
When we watched the movie a second time, I tried to grab his hand early and he said “No! Not yet!” 🙂
When I was replaying the video for Tom (while Owen was sitting there) Owen took BOTH our hands and sang to both of us. NOT A DRY EYE IN THE HOUSE…
Owen loves the movie Tangled. At the end when they’re watching the lanterns from the boat and they start singing to each other and take each other’s hands…
…Owen always grabs my hand gently (or will come and find me if I’m not next to him and take my hand in his) and then sing to me just like the movie. It melts my heart each time…and sometimes I even cry. 🙂
He can be SUCH a sweet little boy when he wants to be.
We were all sitting on the couch with How to Train Your Dragon playing. Owen was watching and I had Katie in my lap softly singing the alphabet and she was cooing back at me. He seemed oblivious…until I started singing the alphabet backwards and he pipes up “Stop! That’s wrong!” 🙂
We’ve been letting Owen skip his nap so he’ll fall asleep faster at night—sometimes he’s still up (in his bed, but awake) at 9:30-10:00—and for the most part it’s been fine. But today—especially after playing in the pool, I’m sure—he took a little catnap while watching the State game with daddy. It was soooo cute of course I had to take a picture.
And it was a true catnap—it couldn’t have been longer than 10 minutes.
Me: Are you ready to get up?
Owen: We’re gonna take mama’s car and go and find daddy!
Owen: I need a snack.
Me: You just had a snack. Would you like breakfast?
Owen: No.
Me: Remember, we have bagels.
Owen: No, I don’t want food anymore.
Watching an episode of Little Einsteins about Saturn.
Owen: Look Katie, it’s beautiful!!
(That cuteness lasted all of 30 seconds because he wouldn’t stop wiggling and she fell over.)
The alphabet song…
And attempting Old MacDonald—I guess we need to work on it. 🙂
Yes, he asked to wear the costume already this morning. And of course he’s watching his favorite Avengers movie. 🙂
Owen really likes the Avengers. It started with Iron Man and has grown into the whole crew, thanks to a kid’s movie on Netflix (Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow).
So when we were thinking about potential Halloween costumes, someone mentioned they had Avenger costumes at Costco…so on our recent trip, we got one. We wanted Captain America or Iron Man, but of course they didn’t have either one of those. So we got Thor…which he’s completely enamored with because he LOVES the hammer.
The hammer was played with as soon as we got home, and the costume sat there for a day before he had to wear it (which was fine because we also wanted him to try it on—it’s a size 7-8 but they run small so we wanted to make sure it fit). Luckily he loves it and wants to wear it all the time, but we limit the time so it will hopefully last until Halloween!
This is him saying “Avengers assemble!” (from the movie) and making the arm motion!
