Brickfair 2016

There was no traffic so we made it to Dulles in record time…which was good because at 9:30 there was already a line for the early 10:30 entrance! So I was a good mom and held our spot while Tom and the kids hunted PokΓ©mon. πŸ™‚

Then the ring thing happened so that put a bit of a damper on things for us. But we tried to forget about it because there was exactly nothing we could do about it at the moment.

So we looked at Legos. And wow, was it cool.

Rapunzel’s tower with mermaids swimming beneath!

Harry Potter’s Quidditch Field (both kids recognized it)!

One of my favorites:

This train had a camera on it. Check out the video feed toward the back!

The flying car from Harry Potter. Something like this was just on a random street scene, with maybe a Starbucks storefront and other random characters or cars. So it was fun to spy the things we knew.

I took these pics for Gramma Jean who saw this in real life. πŸ™‚

The kids didn’t know these but we did! Iconic scenes from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory!

Of course there were lots of moving sets—trains and carousels and whatnot. But this was my favorite!

Then we did some quick shopping and we got Owen a Lego with his name on it.

And Tom got a marine. πŸ™‚

By the time we were leaving it was really crowded and was a lot harder to look at the  exhibits and it wasn’t nearly as fun…so I’m glad we were there early. The kids had a blast and spent almost the whole time saying “Come look at this! Look mom! Over here! OMIGOSH!” πŸ™‚

Owen’s sneaky plan to get a Lego.

We got home from dinner and Owen had been working on this plan to get a Lego. πŸ™‚

Translation:

Secret way to get in the mall to get ultimate clay Lego stand. First tiptoe into the mall. 2 go in the employee entrance. 3. Sneak in the mall go straight to the Lego store. 4. Take a head lamp and a pen and point the pen at his belly and he will knock him out and get the ultimate clay.

Owen’s summer challenges: complete!

Owen just finished his “100 Books in 100 Days” and “200 Pages in 100 Days” Challenges!!

2015-09-02 Summer Slide 100 Books Challenge Complete

2015-09-02 Summer Slide 200 pages complete

It wasn’t all easy—he fought the workbook pages a bit and got WEEKS behind but caught up at the end when he realized he might not get his surprise. πŸ™‚ Also, to be honest, he really probably only read a total of 60-70 books, but a bunch of them were small chapter books (like 10 pages per chapter, three or four chapters per book) so he got multi-credits for those. And this was his reward!

Me and Owen got treats!

To celebrate my weight loss, I went shopping. πŸ™‚ I was hoping to find a pair or two of capris on sale that would last me the rest of this season (and most likely through the spring when I will hopefully need another new size—the way my body apparently fits into pants, I may be wearing these for 3-4 months (if I keep losing at the same rate)). This was me trying on new jeans—and kind of liking how they looked and feeling good! I sent the pic to Tom saying I wasn’t sure—they were a little tight but they were stretchy—and he said GET THEM. Smart man, I know! πŸ™‚

And then we got Owen a future treat at the Lego store (we’re changing his chore chart reward system), and he was giddy about the Minecraft displays. πŸ™‚
