It’s my bed!

When I was with Owen in the bathroom getting his teeth brushed, I saw Tom sneak by into Owen’s room, turn off the light, and shut the door. I wasn’t quite sure what he was planning, so I started recording. 🙂

I love hearing him laugh!! Especially as lately he’s been having a rough time…he worries when we’re out of his sight, he wants to know where we are in the house, most of the time he’ll come running (and crying) if he looks for us and doesn’t immediately see us…

And bedtime is the worst. He’s always been a great sleeper—but recently he’s been crying at bedtime, getting up out of bed to come find us, etc. We’ve asked if something happened to make him worry more and he says no… We feel bad, but it gets old.

So anyway, it’s nice hearing his laugh at bedtime. Except afterwards when it was really bedtime, he started getting scared. Tonight it was monsters. So I layed his B on top of him and tucked it all around him, telling him it was magic and would protect him from everything. He liked that…

And he promised to be brave…

Family time at the park!

Tom has a 96 (Friday through Monday off) so we took the kids to the park.

20140418-235424.jpg

This is as high as he’d go.

20140418-235442.jpg

“Daddy, how high can you go?” Tom pretty much just jumped straight to the top. 🙂

20140418-235520.jpg

Tom wanted to help Owen but Owen was freaked out and wanted NO part of it.

20140418-235621.jpg

After swinging on the toddler swing and the big kid swing, she wanted to try this one.

20140418-235737.jpg

For some unknown reason, Owen is way more freaked out about slides than when he was little. This was his second time down—after he made me catch him the first time.

On the pole again!

Agnes and Camel reunited at last!

This should have been posted way back on February 1… The gnome that I bought from a Tivo friend (who pulled an epic prank on a friend and as a result had a few gnomes to sell) was finally reunited with the gnome that was sent to Tom in Afghanistan. 🙂

When Owen saw them together he said “Is that mom and dad?” 🙂

Owen: Mama, Katie and I are holding hands. Take a picture!

20140401-211420.jpg

Owen: My belly’s still loaded.
Me: Your belly?
Owen: No, my batteries!

Talking on a play cell phone: Hi cousins! I’m a Jedi now!

Owen: Daddy, do you want to find the eggs I hid? There’s a green egg right here and a pink egg in the bag.

Owen tried Grauntie Marge’s beets again at dinner. He hasn’t liked them before.
Tom: Do you like them?
Owen: Looking surprised and excited. YES! They taste like pickles!

Owen pointed out a blue jay on our walk.
Me: How do you know that’s a blue jay?
Owen: I learned it at bird school.

Me: Owen, why does your imagination always include people shooting you?
Owen: I don’t know.
Me: Why doesn’t anyone ever bring you cake or take you to the beach?
Owen: Shrug. Do you know why [whoever] shot me?
Me: No, why?
Owen: Because I wasn’t fabulous.

Owen: I make good imaginations!

Intrigued by a caged Charlie

Charlie had to go to the vet at 8:30 so I grabbed her at 7am (as she was still groggy from sleeping!) and crated her. When Owen saw her he was very concerned and said he was really going to miss Charlie while he was at school (he never says this).

Then as soon as Katie saw what was going on, it was “Hi Charlie! Hi Charlie! Hi Charlie! Hi Charlie!” complete with waves.

Owen impressed his teacher

So I get a call from the school today saying Owen got sick in class and they’re just letting me know. Apparently they will keep the kid there unless a) I want to come get him or b) he gets sick again. Well, I didn’t get any more details (to hopefully help me decide) and Katie was down for her nap…so I said I’d leave him.

Then I texted Tom to let him know and he said he’d go get him (he was planning on leaving early anyway). So when they got home I found out that he simply said he didn’t feel good, then walked over and barfed in the waste basket—which really impressed the teacher! She asked Tom if we trained him to do that and he said not really…but we try to tell him to get to the toilet, a garbage, or at least a non-carpeted area!

We made him take a nap (since he missed nap time at school) and he seemed fine afterwards. He was ravenous at (and after) dinner and was his typical crazy self all night.

I was trying to get him to drink some water and after awhile he said “Mama, my belly doesn’t like water anymore. I think my belly needs chocolate milk to feel better.” 🙂 (Tom had stopped at the store and bought chocolate milk as a treat.) I told him his belly liked water just fine and he could have chocolate milk in the morning. 🙂

Tom: Owen, do you want McDonalds for lunch?
Owen: YES! M is my favorite letter!

Tom: Owen, do you want some ice cream?
Owen: Yeah, baby!

Telling gramma stories while watching himself in the wall of mirrors (that was his most favorite thing to do all week):

Katie was climbing on Owen to get to the iPad.
Katie! Get off me! Go to grandma!

After running on the beach with daddy:
When I run too much my bones get tired.

On the way home wanting his head phones.
Where are my ear muffins?

Owenisms 39

Me: How are your eyes this morning?
Owen: Good.
Me: Were they stuck shut this morning?
Owen: Yes.
Me: Did daddy help get them unstuck?
Owen: No, I just used my two fingers!

Owen: Mom, can my friends come over? I miss them.
Me: Sure, we can invite them over.
Owen: When are they coming?
Me: I don’t know—we haven’t invited them yet.
Owen: Check your phone!

Owen: Remember C3PO?
Me: Yes.
Owen: I love that guy.

Looking at a smashed car as we drove by.
Wow! Look at that car. It’s dead.

Owen has a very short thumbnail—we’re assuming he bit the nail while he was sucking his thumb—and it’s a little painful. He went to suck his thumb:
Oh. Wait! This one hurts. I’d better use the other one!

The Lego Movie

Tom and I took Owen to The Lego Movie today. He was SOOO excited! The whole time we were coming home from Costco he was telling us to hurry so he wouldn’t miss the movie! We assured him we would be home in plenty of time. He even wore his new Lego Crocs!

The movie was really cute and Owen was super excited to see some of his own minifigures in the movie!

As the movie ended these were my exact thoughts:

  1. I feel guilty for super gluing some of Owen’s original minifigures together.
  2. I want to go buy him more Legos right now.
  3. EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!

You’ll understand all of those when you see the movie but here’s #3:

Then this happened on the way home:

Katie locked herself outside of the gate.
Owen: Now I don’t have my little Miss Katie.

Driving home after errands.
Owen: Mama, this little girl over here is pooping.

Owen was playing on my phone in the car.
Owen: I can’t find Temple Run.
Me: I’m sorry. I don’t know where it is.
Owen: Well, I guess I’m going to have to play something else.

After fighting with Owen to try grilled pork and he realized he liked it…
Owen: Oh yeah! Oh yeah! I like pig now!

Trying a new candy (Nerds).
Owen: Chewing with a weird look on his face. What does it do?
Me: Nothing. It’s candy.
Owen: I don’t like it.

I poured a bit of my Slim Fast shake into Owen’s white milk.
Owen: Mom, you know what I called this before? Tast-eeee delicious!!

RIP awesome Dawson Crocs Boots

I hate when companies change a good product. Owen has Crocs “Dawson” boots that I LOVE but he’s outgrown them.

crocboots-dawsonold

Of course when I go to buy a bigger pair (easy, right?), that style has been COMPLETELY redesigned and now instead of boots they are slip-ons that look just like most other Crocs. 😡

crocsboots-dawsonnew

And if I decided I wanted those? Oh well, no one has them in stock or they aren’t available in Youth sizes (at this point I don’t even care—the point is they aren’t available in Owen’s size).

It took me forever to find a perfect pair that wouldn’t be super warm (since we rarely need winter boots), came up high enough in case there was snow, would work for rain, and weren’t super expensive. And now I have to do it all over. Similar ones by Keen are twice as much. No thanks.

Ugh.

Owen had really bad bed head, so I told him to go look at it in the mirror.
Owen: Mom! It’s all uppy!

I hand Owen his MSU jersey to put on.
Owen: NO! I don’t want to wear that!
Me: Why not?
Owen: Because people will see it!
Me: ???

Owen walking around the living room pretending he doesn’t see Katie.
Where’s my Katie bug?
Is she here? Lifts blanket.
Is she in here? Opens bathroom door.
Where’s my sister?
She pops her head out to find him.
THERE SHE IS!

Owen: Touch my finger. I’m an electricery robot.
I touch his outstretched finger.
Owen: ZZZZAAAP! Now touch my head. It’s okay. It has sunscreen on and won’t hurt you.

Owen: Mom, you’re killing me.
I guess he hears me say that a lot. Oops!

Owen: Mom, I have to tell you something…in your ear!

Me: Owen, pick a shirt to wear.
Owen: Digging through his drawer. My Sparty jersey.
Me: Are you sure?
Owen: Yes! Because everyone knows I love Sparty!

Owen: Katie, talk to me.
Katie: Unintelligible babble.
Owen: I don’t know baby words. I was a baby a long long time ago when I was one.

Katie: Owie! Owie! Owie!
Owen: What is it Katie girl?

The post-party party

We had the gang over after the gymnastics party so we could hang out and visit—with everyone’s busy schedules (and with Trimble’s living back on base instead of in the same neighborhood) we rarely get together anymore. We ordered pizza for dinner and had a few drinks while the kids played. We had Owen open his gifts sporadically throughout the night and then had him blow out candles on his cake (I had forgotten candles for the gymnastics party). He loved opening his presents and pretty much every response to every gift was an excited “WHAT!?!!” It was super cute.

Then he opened his big gift from us—a used iPhone 4—and he looked at it like “Huh?” and immediately said “Daddy, this is yours!” and tried handing it to him. He completely didn’t understand that it was for him, even after I showed him the Lego Indiana Jones wallpaper. He was just too excited about all the other Lego/Ninjago/Star Wars stuff. We should have kept it until after all the excitement of the day was over.

Welcome home dinner outing!

Daddy wanted to go out for sushi and of course I’ll never argue with that…

Getting ready:

20140129-084602.jpg

Then we stopped at Owen’s school to get Tom registered (for pickup and drop off) then had time to go to the playground!

DINNER!

20140129-085819.jpg

Less than 10 minutes later:

20140129-085849.jpg

Katie tried a bite of sushi and ate it but didn’t want more (but she’s been in a phase of only eating 1-2 bites of something).

20140129-090025.jpg

Them we went next door for frozen yogurt! Katie was wiping daddy’s face.

20140129-090356.jpg

It’s a good, good morning.

The plan was for me to go in to Owen’s room as usual and then have Tom come knock on the door. Tom was up super early (before 5) and once I knew he was up and moving around I was paranoid that Owen would hear/see him and ruin the surprise…so I got up and dragged Tom back into the bedroom while we watched Owen on the monitor. Owen dutifully waited until his nightlight turned green at 6:30 before turning his bedroom light on and I went in shortly after.

I thought he would have been much more excited…but it was still sweet. And then people (on Facebook) pointed out his wiggling feet and I guess that’s how he shows excitement. He also sounds a little choked up toward the end. (Facebook only got a snippet. This is the whole thing.)

The Facebook comments were great:

  • I like the wiggly feet…..
  • Awwww. This is priceless. I think he was very excited. His little feet!
  • The wiggly feet give it away!! So sweet!
  • Those feet!!!!!
  • Awww. Those feet! I totally cried. Both times.
  • The boy who emotes with his feet. What an awesome moment.
  • I love the little foot wiggle.

20140127-191145.jpg

Then first things first—he had to show daddy his Lego book!

20140127-191331.jpg

20140127-191422.jpg

And then it was time to surprise Katie. She doesn’t seem to recognize him at first…but don’t worry, she was saying “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!” the rest of the day and didn’t want him to leave her sight.

20140127-192332.jpg

And daddy even did the morning diaper change!

Talking about his new Paintball Guy Lego on the way home from school.
Me: Does he have a happy or sad face?
Owen: Ummmm. He has a get ready face. He’s getting ready to paintball someone.

There was a bird chirping quite consistently.
Owen: Mom, you hear that?
Me: What is it?
Owen: A bird alert!

Coming downstairs in the morning:
Owen: Oh Katie…I have a guest for you!
Me: A guest?
Owen: A DOOOOG! Here’s MAGGIE!

Watching Owen give Katie a hug and kiss while playing: I have to go away tomorrow. I’ll miss you.

Trying fish sticks:
Owen: I like it! It tastes like…a French fry!
Me: Great! Do you want another one?
Owen: No thank you.
Me: Will you finish that one, please?
Owen: I only like the insides.
Me: The insides?
Owen: Yes.
Me: Well you can peel off the outsides if you want.
Owen: No, I like the outsides.
Me: :/
