Fall Festival

Our local town center was having a small fall festival so we took the kids since it was a gorgeous day. When I saw small, I mean small—there were about 10-12 booths on the outside edge (cotton candy, face painting, Pampered Chef, jewelry, etc.) and there were a few kids projects in the center island. It was perfect—the kids had fun and things didn’t take too long. 🙂

Last day at the pool!

Labor Day is officially the last day our pool is open, so we headed down early—hoping that it wouldn’t be too crazy busy because they were having a BBQ (free food brings out everyone and their brother who NEVER come to the pool any other time) from 1-4. Fortunately, it wasn’t that busy when we got there at 11, though it got steadily busier as the actual BBQ time got closer.

I took a bunch of pics with our waterproof camera which is always fun because it’s so bright out you can’t really tell what you took so you can’t tell if you got any good pics until you get home and check them on the computer!

I like this one because Owen looks like a stingray.

Katie enjoyed pouring water on daddy.

And throwing water at him. This was a lucky shot!

Katie loves it when daddy goes to the bottom of the pool so she can walk on him.

A full pool. Quite a difference from the empty pool we normally have when we’re there.

Tom ended up taking Katie home a little early and I stayed with Owen until about 3:30. He would have stayed longer but I was exhausted—we’re rarely at the pool that long and I was done with the sun.

Dinner with new friends!

So last night at our dinner, some new friends (that we’ve technically known all school year—their twin girls were in Owen’s class—but we just never actually got together since we were all busy) said we were welcome at their house any time and to just come over. I said we would never just show up unannounced, but if they invited us, we’d be there. So he said “Great! We’re having people over tomorrow. Come to dinner!!” So we agreed immediately!

The kids had a BLAST. They actually have two sets of twins—the girls (in first grade) and boys, who are one. One of the twin girls is in Owen’s class again this year. Katie loved everyone and kept an eye on the babies! We had an amazingly DELICIOUS authentic Indian meal and met some friends of theirs that were really great. They have a huge back yard (probably three times the size of our Jacksonville yard!) so Owen was running all over. They have a playset, too, which Katie loved.

After dinner, this was happening—the kids all having fun taking pictures with someone’s iPhone:

We hadn’t planned on staying longer than maybe two hours (sleep schedules, you know) but we were all having such a good time and the kids were busybusybusy that we ended up staying until ALMOST 11! Holy wah! (We had prepped Katie by making sure she napped beforehand, but she still did really, really well.)

We look forward to many more fun nights with them!!

Genetics Revisit

Owen’s pediatrician wanted to revisit his genetics results to see if any new information has been discovered in the past 2.5 years…so it was off to Bethesda to see a specialist.

In the waiting room, Owen made a beeline for the one kid he saw who was also using a tablet. 🙂

The short story is that there is nothing new regarding his previous test results and we don’t have to worry about revisiting them for another two years unless something changes drastically with his health or behavior. We also don’t have to worry about getting Katie tested.

I fully believe it’s something that could’ve been handled over the phone without actually seeing Owen in person but I obviously that would make things too easy. (Fortunately the drive there did not give me an anxiety attack as it has in the past—the traffic was fairly light and I left plenty of time.)

One way to lose iPad privileges.

I opened Katie’s door in the morning so she could just come downstairs when she woke up. But then we heard her walking around…and she wasn’t coming down. I went up to find this—she was in Owen’s room with his bank contents strewn about. She’s hanging her head because she just got a “no ma’am” and command to pick it all up. Being stubborn, she refused—and consequently lost her iPad privileges for the day.

Playground again!

Owen didn’t have activity camp this week so we did this instead! They played while I walked around the path for my mile walk!

Today he brought a shield and sword.

Katie likes to be pushed high!

Her same friend was back—this time with a scooter. Katie desperately wanted to use the scooter, but didn’t want to actually move on it. 🙂

Getting right into things!

Owen wanted to open his presents as soon as we got home…and Katie really wanted to help. She had a hard time accepting that these were OWEN’S PRESENTS and there were none for her. But he’s a nice brother so he let her help on a few.

Then we took a little break so I could go walk on the treadmill and they could play on the bounce house…and also so Owen wouldn’t blow through all his gifts in the first day!

Afterwards, I noticed Owen was wearing a new Minion #selfie shirt and I asked if he knew what a selfie was. He said no, so we took this picture:

And then he grabbed my phone and took this:

Owen’s half birthday pool party!

The wait was finally over—the day for Owen’s postponed birthday pool party! And the weather was perfect!! We had 19 kids and 14 adults!

The timing was perfect: at the end of every hour, the lifeguards take a 15-minute break and all kids must exit the pool. So we used this time to have our pizza lunch!

Two of the kids from his Kindergarten class (who are about his size so he looks normal!).

2015-08-08kids048

Everyone had a great time! The kids LOVED the water shooters and, while a few got broken, each kid was able to take one home. We guessed pretty good on the pizza—we ordered five and ate about four. There was enough cake to leave out a few pieces and freeze a nice chunk for a later date. The best part was after 10 minutes of cleaning up and packing the car, we were DONE. 🙂

Painting in the bath!

Owen likes showers better these days, but I convinced him to take a bath with Katie this morning…by promising a new treat: fingerpaint soap (gotta love the dollar bins at Target!). They had a blast.

I had each one fill their hand with their respective colors (pink and blue) and then had them rub hands…to get a light purple! Owen knew about mixing colors but he still thought it was super cool. Katie was amazed! Some days it’s the little things. 🙂
