We went to a friend’s house to stay with her napping kid while she had to make an emergency run to school. Katie immediately took to the car. I instantly felt guilty again about selling theirs. 🙁

Pumpkin Playground
The kids didn’t have school today so I wanted to do something fun. There are a lot of fall festivals around but I didn’t want to drive to far…so we went to the same place we went for Owen’s kindergarten field trip and invited friends!
They added rolling tubes since we were last there.
Caitlin braved the tubes before I did.
The boys LOVED it…Katie didn’t want anything to do with it.
Not one picture with either of them actually looking at me!
Owen LOVED the train and spent most of his time here.
And then Katie decided she wanted to go down the slide…with Caitlin.

Then I finally got in the tube and Liam rolled me down! It was much easier getting in than getting out.

Costumed Katie
We went to visit friends down the street and Katie had to wear one of her generic princess costumes.
And then her friend had new costumes, so of course she had to try them on!
Katie and every play kitchen but ours.
If you recall, she has a play kitchen. But she never used it so we moved it to the basement. Which means whenever she sees a kitchen anywhere else she has to play with it. (This is an on-base playgroup we go to with friends every week.)
Me: Katie, do you want us to bring your kitchen upstairs to play with?
Katie: No.
Of course not.
Visiting her pre-k class!
Today was the “meet and greet” for potential peer models. Even though they’ve already asked us back, they want to see her interactions with others. We had classroom play time first (during which we also happened to have a lockdown drill—Katie did awesome!) and then it was out to the playground where she got to swing and play with her friend Mason from last year.

It was a really nice day out, so where did the kids play? Across the street in the neighbor’s driveway. Really guys?!
Soccer Games Saturday
Today was Katie’s first game and she was SUPER excited…new jersey, new shorts, new shoes, new shin guards, and new headband!! Doesn’t she look the part?!
I remembered my good camera for soccer today!
He’s having a blast and getting better every game! Also, my mommy guilt got the better of me and Katie starts soccer practice next week…
A new playground with friends
We dragged them to morning program and they dragged us to a new park!

We went to a new play group on base with friends. Katie loved the size of this book and the sticker craft (which had 3x as many stickers by the time she was done).

She loves brushing my hair and always asks me to do so. I rarely let her because when it’s curly, it’s painful for her to do so. Today I was babysitting for a friend and he wanted to brush her hair!! And she didn’t like it because he was pulling her hair. I enjoyed explaining to her that’s why I say no when she asks me.
Last day at the pool and saying goodbye to the lifeguards!
Labor Day has become a somewhat sad day at our house because it’s the last day the community pool is open. The kids love eating down there, but it’s bittersweet because we know the hot weather will continue and there will be no fun escape! Unfortunately, Tom wasn’t feeling that great, so he only lasted about five minutes before he went home.
Then I gave Owen the camera…

Then one of the lifeguards came over and asked if he could take a picture with the kids at breaktime. Of course! What a sweetie. He would play football with Owen in the pool, always said hi to Katie, and always knew who we were. I emailed them to him right from the pool (I love technology).
Last time at the spray park!
We only went twice this summer—and today was the only time Owen got to go! Where did this summer go?! (Oh yeah, I was lazy and just always took them to our pool instead of driving a 45-minute round trip.) And Tom was home early today so he went with us! Unfortunately it was a bit chilly and the kids were cold after about a half hour.
Please tell me fall weather is here!
The weather was GORGEOUS this morning—a perfect 66°—so I told the kids we were going for a little walk. We hatched an egg, gathered some Poké balls, caught some Pokémon, and played at the playground.
They actually played well together today. 🙂
Pirate’s Cove, Take 2, NO POOP!
We convinced Tom to take the day off work to come play with us!! We were there right when they opened, so I tried to take a bunch of pictures quick before the background was overrun with people!
Owen wasn’t thrilled with stopping to get his picture taken!

A Pokémon gym was right at the entrance, so Tom took Owen over to battle!
I didn’t have my camera with me when we were closer, so this is a quick pic from the other side of the park. I even went down the red slide! (I have to admit, I was actually a little nervous at the top—I haven’t been on a slide in a long time—but it was fun!) We never did get Katie to go on it, which is a bummer because I know she would have loved it! (As it was, I had to practically BRIBE her to go down the little blue slide above—she wanted NO part of it. But once she did it, she loved it!)
So we had a nice, relaxing day…and best of all, there were no poop incidents!!
Once you start something at the pool…
We often end up at the pool at the same time as our neighbors which is great because the girls like playing together. Today the dad came up with this new fun thing where he lifts them up (while they’re sitting on the floatie together) and then carries them around and splashes them down. Needless to say he had to do that for about an hour. 🙂
They didn’t mind swim lessons being postponed 30 minutes.
They ALWAYS ask to play these video games at the rec center when we go for swim lessons, but we never have time. Today, the pool chemicals were off and they postponed lessons for 30 minutes…so the kids finally had time to play!

It was crazy insane hot tonight so practice didn’t last very long.
Then little sister wanted a picture, too. 🙂
As a sidenote, we still don’t have a coach and it’s quite the cluster. It’s clear no one at the soccer association really has any idea what’s going on and that makes it very frustrating as a parent. This came in an email after practices:
My reaction was SERIOUSLY? It is OUR job to find a coach? WHAT?! I posted as much on Facebook, lamenting that this can’t be typical…and unfortunately was quickly told by many that yes, it’s very common—lots of parents with zero soccer knowledge end up coaching soccer. Ay yi yi. So stay tuned…there’s stuff in the works.
They love when I bring the waterproof camera!
It was back up to probably 98 and 85% humidity so we spent four hours at the pool today. The battery on the camera was running out after the first hour. 🙂
Then Katie wanted the camera so I coached her (again) on how to hold the camera so she wouldn’t get her fingers in the way… She does pretty well.
She never wants to practice floating when I want her to…so she just decides to do it whenever. I have to say it freaks me out just a little. 🙂

I watched a friend’s kids this morning for a bit and the girls did puzzles!
While Hami chewed on some plastic cookies. 🙂
I’m SUCH a good mom.
Since the weather was still nice—and I had an errand to run in Occoquan—we went Pokémoning.
And then Owen won a gym…for a few minutes anyway. 🙂

The humidity and heat finally broke today so the weather was really nice so we headed to the library park/playground to enjoy it…while hatching an egg, repeatedly visiting a Pokestop, and catching Pokémon.
He won’t fit in the water table anymore so I can’t easily do a recreation!

Today we had a play dough play date with some new friends…the kids played with homemade play dough…and even MADE play dough!
