We were shopping at Kohl’s and I was trying to get this as a birthday present…but she saw it and HAD to have it on! And I’m a sucker, so…

Owen’s official t-ball pictures!
Raptors Practice
Since it was a 6p practice, Tom took Owen and I stayed home with Katie. I think it was actually the first practice they’ve had since before the season started (they had others scheduled but they were rained out). Owen was excited because they got to practice hitting the ball from pitches instead of off the tee!
Swimsuit model?!

Biking is better in theory than practice.Â
Both kids were SO excited to get out on their new bikes and Katie was SO excited about her helmet…
But first we have to walk up the huge hill. Ugh. Owen barely made it up as he couldn’t keep it going straight.
I’m not sure what this face was about.
She, of course, couldn’t do it by herself and I don’t have the patience, so Tom did most of it. I know there’s a learning curve, but I’m seriously ready to just get rid of all bikes for about five years. Both want to be able to ride but neither wants to actually work to do it OR pay attention when we tell them how to do something.
Owen eventually started to get the hang of it (again), but not before falling off a few times—he refuses to steer so he ran into the curb and tipped over into the grass…and he seems to think the training wheels will keep him from falling over so he’ll lean too far and tip.
We only lasted about 10 minutes, maybe 15. We would have tried longer but one of Owen’s friends saw us out the window and waved and yelled hi…so both kids completely lost any concentration.
Waiting for daddy and Owen to come down the hill.
Interestingly, when trying to pedal, Owen can only seem to slam his feet backward to brake. But! When going downhill and he needs to brake? He can only seem to pedal. :/
Anyone want to teach our kids to ride bikes?!
Owen ROCKED his first swim lessons!
Holy cow. I’m still gobsmacked.
So, Owen gets terribly freaked out being on his back trying to float. We’ve been trying for two years to get him to do it and he hasn’t. So my thought was that if the entire 16 lessons were spent getting him to float on his back I would be perfectly happy with that.
And he did it in the first 30-minute lesson!! (Well, technically within the first 15 minutes… But by the end of the 30-minute lesson he had earned his yellow ribbon!)
At 14 minutes into the lesson. FOURTEEN.

And his swim cap which denotes his group (he’s a Minnow). When he advances to the next level (after he can swim the length of the pool by himself by doggy-paddling and flipping over to rest/float/breathe) he’ll be a Turtle 1 and get a new color.
Daddy was keeping Katie busy so they were walking around the complex. They stopped to wave down at us!
He had a great time and loved every minute! We are SO proud of him!
The only bad part was that Katie really wanted to go in the pool. But, we learned that she can go in the other end of the pool for free swim at the same time! So we’ll try that the next time.

Game 7: Raptors vs Scrappers
One of Owen’s teammates (surprisingly, there’s not too much of this with his team):
Katie’s same friend was there with her purse—and an Elsa/Anna doll—again today which kitty quickly co-opted as her own. The mom had no problem with it because she was just happy her daughter was sharing. 🙂
Katie off playing with her:

Owen’s two at-bats:
Kidisms 10
It was raining on our way home in the car.
Owen: Everyone has windshield wipers on…except the ones that don’t have windshield wipers.
Katie: I don’t want to be a mermaid.
Me: You don’t?
Katie: No. I just want to be Katie.
As Maggie was at the door for the 40th time today wanting to go outside…
Me: Maggie, you are driving me nuts.
Katie, letting Maggie out: Maggie, you are driving mama nuts.
Mama! Look at me on my tippy toes!

Mamaaaa! I’m wearing your shoes…!

As Owen and I were walking home from the bus stop:
Owen: Mom, I dont want to live here anymore.
Me: Why not?
Owen: This hill makes me tired!
During dnner:
Tom: Owen, what did you do today?Owen: I don’t remember.
Katie, to me: What did you do today?
Me: What did you do?
Katie, matter-of-factly: The iPad. Daniel Tiger.
Owen’s butterflyÂ
Owen was so excited to show me his project from art class—I had to stop him from trying to unroll it as we walked home!
Do all moms love their kids’ artwork as much as I do? Or maybe I’m just super excited drew something not video game related. 🙂
Facebook friends saw something else.
I see a ninja turtle.
If that’s not a ninja turtle fighting a giant spider, I’ll be really disappointed.
So I told Owen people thought it was a ninja turtle—thinking he’d be thrilled because he likes ninja turtles—and he said incredulously “It’s a butterfly!” 🙂
Friends came over to visit!
Cheyenne and I try to get together at least once a week at either house. Since we have grass and a shade tree, today was here so the kids could play in the water table.
Surprisingly, it took a good half hour before this happened. (Notice the 4″ wood block under the right leg to level it.)
And then this happened.
Look at this cute little bundle! Isn’t he just so stinkin’ cute?! I get my fill of baby time with him…then he goes home with his mom. 🙂
And then the girls found some Frozen birthday party hats (and Cayenne is in Katie’s rain boots). 🙂
Cayenne forgot her flower barrette here so Katie was keeping it safe.
Shoes, tippy toes, clothes.Â
Water Table Cutie
Cuddles!
I can’t believe this hasn’t happened before now.
She went in to go potty while I was picking out her clothes…when suddenly I heard crying. I ran in there to see this.
She was not happy. But of course I took the extra 10 seconds to snap a pic before helping her out. 🙂 It was only pee water but I figured I’d better at least rinse her off—and she didn’t like that, either.
What a way to start the day. Poor Katie.
Owen’s scheduleÂ

Chasing a full rainbow!
As we were leaving the restaurant, I saw a rainbow.
Owen was excited to go find the leprechaun and pot of gold! We told him it was very hard to do—daddy and I had never in our whole lives been able to catch one! So of course as we were driving home the rainbow kept moving. 🙂 And then suddenly I noticed that it had moved somewhere I completely didn’t expect it… And it turns out it was the other end of the rainbow! So we could see the entire arc! It wasn’t super bright, but there was actually even a double rainbow on part of it!
We kept “following” it all the way home, and it one point it really looked like the end was on the highway and we were driving through it. And when we got home—surprise! We could still see the whole thing from our driveway!
Two new bikes!
We got Katie a real bike with training wheels tonight. She did better on that in the aisle then she ever did on either tricycle! (So now I have two tricycles to sell.) I do feel a smidge of guilt for not getting either the Frozen or Doc McStuffins bikes, but those had a premium price ($20 extra).
She also got a purple ladybug helmet. She wanted the pink cat princess with the crown but it was for ages 5+ and was just too big. 🙂
We also got Owen a 20″ bike (up from a 16″) but we need to buy training wheels. He fit on the 18″ bike but the seat was already all the way up! So we’re hoping to future-proof a little bit!
Since we preferred to save $25 per bike, Daddy gets to put them together this weekend!+
