Wednesday at the dentist.
Katie is never nervous. She does amazing.
Owen, on the other hand, is always really nervous (he thinks everything will hurt) and then afterwards he says “That was easy!” This photo is obviously after he was done. 🙂
Owen’s Special Letter
The second day of Owen’s “Me Museum” week was a sealed letter written by someone else about his special qualities. This is the letter I wrote.
Owen has many special qualities and continues to amaze us with his abilities.
Owen didn’t really start talking until age 3, but once he did, he never stopped! We were worried about him learning how to read, when one day he came home from Pre-K and just picked up a book and started reading it to me! He still impresses me with all the words he knows!
He got his first Lego mini-figure at age 3 and has never looked back. He can follow directions on sets above his age level and then tears them apart and builds his own super cool creations. He is our own Master Builder.
Owen has always been super nice and polite and makes friends very easily. Friends, family, teachers, and even strangers comment on how sweet and polite he is.
He is the best big brother to his little sister—he plays with her, gives her piggy-back rides, reads her books, helps get her breakfast, and makes her laugh.
He is very loving with all of our pets. He takes good care of our dog and gives cuddles to the cats.
Owen is good at swimming, baseball, and soccer. He is a Shark 2—the highest level of swimming (and I know he could beat me in a race). He always gives 100% at every lesson, practice, or game. During his first soccer season, his coach gave him the “most improved player” award.
Owen is a great kid and we couldn’t be prouder to have him as our son.

Owen’s “Me Museum” Poster
As with the past two years, each kid gets a week to share things about themselves with the class and we picked his birthday week again. I tried to keep my hands off his poster while still managing to give some gentle guidance. He did pretty good.
We’ll miss Micah!
The kids’ swim instructor is moving so today was his last day. We will miss him lots—he was really good with both kids and really pushed Owen.
Birthday shopping from Toys R Us
I belong to the birthday club for the kids so when mail came with Owen’s name on it, he was excited. It was a $3 coupon and a certificate for a crown and birthday balloon. When we turned it in, he also got a plush and a book!
He knew exactly what he wanted so it didn’t take long. He looked so grown up waiting in line…
Unfortunately we were one day early for the coupon (of course!) so daddy bought it for him and he lucks out with an extra birthday present.

Katie: I don’t feel good.
Tom: What’s wrong?
Katie: The boogers are in the way.
We bought Katie a carry-on for an upcoming plane trip. She has been rolling it around the house ever since, filling it up, emptying it out, and playing with it non-stop. When she goes to bed, Owen starts playing with it.
Me: Why do you guys like suitcases so much?
Owen: Let’s just say this. We like suitcases.
Katie got dressed on her own and came in to show us.
Tom: You look like a thousand bucks.
Katie: I’m not for sale!
We were out running errands and Katie asked if I was just going to go in. Tom joked he would just toss me out of the car.
Katie: Noooo! She’ll break everything on her. She’ll break her bones.
Vacation Day Spirit Day
He’s SO excited about being able to dress for Vacation Day at William Halley ES…doesn’t much care that it’s only 30° out.

Building our own White House
We are doing it in batches because we are ALL helping…and when owen starts getting too grabby and controlling, we put it up for the day.

A tired trip home
After the early morning and walking to the museum and around the museum and back to the car and a little Pokémoning, this happened on the way home.
She was fighting it.
And then this happened.
Uncle Rob wasn’t fighting it. But look at my little happy and wide-awake photo bomber!! 😀

Three hours and done!*
* I’m just not a huge museum fan (or history in general, which is why being in the DC area is pretty pointless for me). This was probably my first choice of all the museums and while I think some of the stuff is cool I just don’t care enough to read about all of it. I probably could have spent a bit more time in the First Lady and Presidential halls but most of the rest was easily done with a quick walk-through. I also very much dislike hoardes of people and being crowded and not able to see things easily so that’s a huge issue here. It wasn’t too bad when we were some of the first 500-1000 people in when they opened but after a few hours when the entrants have doubled? No thank you. The kids also weren’t very interested so they would have really been bored to tears if we took any longer.
Also, Uncle Rob was supposed to have been with us, but he wasn’t thinking and had a pocketknife with him…and since these are federal buildings everyone has to go through security and he could not bring it in with him. He tried to go back and put it in the car, but he would have had to go back through security to get to the car…so unless he wanted to toss it or hide it, he was out of luck (we entered through the parking garage so the car got a cursory check but we didn’t get personally checked and we didn’t have to exit through security so it passed—but to re-enter the building to get to the parking lot, you had to pass security). So he wandered the area seeing the sights and taking pictures.

Owen’s Lego Mixel Max (a bigger monster Mixel built with all three packs of the set) with assorted evil minions he created from the remaining pieces.

Movie & Popcorn
I can’t remember what movie they watched but they both wanted popcorn for dinner—Grauntie Marge had given Katie an ENTIRE BOX of stovetop popcorn so they were super excited about that. So we let them eat popcorn for dinner. What a treat! Katie also enjoyed her new mermaid tail blanket from Gramma Jean!
Five member Pokémon gym!
We got Uncle Rob started/hooked on Pokémon so we went out on one of our typical drives/hunts…and the kids took their new plush Pokémon they got from Santa.
And their Pikachu rode with me.
And then we took over a gym on one of our walking trails. We didn’t actually walk the whole trail, though—we just cheated and ran down to the pond.
With Uncle Rob here we can put five Pokémon in at a time!! (Oh yeah, that’s right, Katie now has her own account because I wanted her to stop messing around with “our” account.)
