I  this kid!

This was cute… He had been right in the middle of the bush, tickling himself with all the little buds…and he says “Look at all the tickles!”
Owen helped daddy wash his car this weekend…so today he wanted to wash his own car!
Owen now likes to take showers with mom and dad. 😐
It started a few weeks ago when he became intrigued by me taking a shower—I usually grab my five-minute shower while he’s watching TV and playing in the morning, and at first he asked what I was doing and then it turned into him telling me “Taking a shower!” Cute, right? I thought he might want to get in, but I was saved by the fact that he didn’t really want anything to do with getting in while it was running (though he’d gladly go in afterwards).
So this weekend when Tom was home, Owen desperately wanted to get in the shower with Tom. He actually let us get him undressed and walked into the shower…but wasn’t crazy about the water coming from above—and kept opening the door trying to get out. But he did like spraying the handheld part at Tom and the doors…just not on himself. That was Saturday morning.
Fast forward to this morning, when Owen desperately wanted to take a shower when I did. I told him if he could get undressed all by himself, he could take a shower with me—guessing that it wouldn’t happen because he really doesn’t know how to get undressed by himself yet.
Ha.
I was obviously completely wrong. He had his pants off in about 10 seconds (though that’s one thing we have been working on so that wasn’t a big stretch)…but then he was seriously taking his T-shirt off, which he always has given up on before! I did have to give him a small clue about bending his arm to pull it out of the short sleeve, but otherwise he got it all by himself! Okay then, I guess he earned a shower!
By this time, Tom had wandered back into the bathroom and saw what was going on and took Owen’s diaper off. And this time he LOVED getting his head wet with the handheld shower, let me wash his hair, and soaped himself! He didn’t want to get out! And loves saying he took a shower!
So now if I want to shower alone, I have to do it before he wakes up or during his nap!
It was thundering while Owen was getting a bath…and look who jumped in with him? So both kids got a bath! Owen loved pouring water on her, saying “Close your eyes, Maggie!”
Covering his eyes while he counts—he wants me to go hide (even though we’re in the middle of a field)!
Owen just made his first PB&J sandwich—with a little help—but he did pretty good for a three year old!
This was a bit challenging for me since I really need two hands to blow bubbles and one hand to hold the camera. 🙂
I really didn’t think getting Owen in a part-time preschool would be THIS hard.
At this point, I’m out of choices… Well, there are more according to Google, but they are places I’ve heard NOTHING about or appear to be home-based (from the Google map listings).
Owen did absolutely phenomenal during his first buzz cut—even sitting alone, on a booster seat, and wearing the cape! ALL FIRSTS! I guess Raoul (see Cars 2 car in last photo) was a good motivator!?
Watching Raoul very closely.

Sitting oh-so still WHILE she used the clippers. He HATES clippers and has freaked out every other time we’ve tried to use them. Tom and I were stunned.
He even smiled on command!
Look at all that hair!!
I think he really looks like Alex here…
VICTORY! Raoul is his!
He’s still a seat stealer! Even outside!
Whenever I need to go shopping for longer than a few minutes, I usually get Owen a $1 toy as his treat. Most times, it’s something he can play with while I shop (like a car) which keeps him busy. Today, however, he didn’t want a car—he fell in love with this water gun! He even took it in for his nap…and it was what he was playing with when I went to get him up from his nap!
FYI: At about 7s he sees a golf cart drive by and announces it.
FYI: The foam pumpkin is the football and the big legos are the football players (in alternate scenarios, they are also soldiers, robots, and a totem poll). 🙂
Gram was teaching him Twinkle Twinkle when she was here. Sometimes he does better than others, but of course I don’t catch those…but he’s still cute when he only gets part of it!
When they were here visiting, he’d go in there and play “tent” with them. So where did I find him shortly after they left??
Growling like monsters!

Hiding from papa!

Drawing Owen on the driveway.

Of course I missed the first part of this scene…the first two times papa and gram were tickling him and when they stopped he’d say “Again!” And since they were both tickling him, he was saying “Two tickles! Two tickles!”
And it’s mine!

Someone is READY for the beach!

Before heading down to the shore…

NOT liking the sand (even though we took off his shoes)…

Running away from the surf (photo, iPhone video, and Canon camera video):

Finally liking the waves crashing on the shore (he’s mid-clap).

For some unknown reason, he just took off up the sand and went to sit on the towel. He stayed for a minute or so, then got off and came back down to the water.

We ran into a mom and little boy so they sat with us while the boys played. I had no idea until I saw this picture than I caught Owen jumping with both feet in the air!

Proof I was there! 🙂

Probably the best picture of the day (out of 275).

Smiley boy!

This is about what I get to see/hear every morning… I love it!
See, he’s not always complacent and happy…but he still went for his nap without a full-on tantrum. 🙂

We have never watched Bubble Guppies. Ever. Well, except for the little 2-3 minute blurbs that might appear at the end of other shows.
So tonight, I was scrolling through My Shows on the TiVo Premiere (which has thumbnails on the top of the screen showing suggested shows) and Owen looks up and suddenly screeches “BUBBLE GUPPIES!!” Clear as day. And yep, there was the thumbnail.
I have NO idea how he knew that was the name. I mean, I’m sure they’ve said it (so he’s heard it)…but to make that connection without ever having seriously watched it?!
It’s just amazing what his brain picks up.
He knows all the pieces, though whether he’ll answer you on command is another story. Thanks, Gramma Marsha—he LOVES them (especially the screwdriver, which he uses to fix his cars)!!

Owen just correctly used “You’re welcome” for the first time! He is using his toy hammer to bang on certain spots on the kitchen floor so I said “Thank you for fixing the floor!” and he responded with “You’re welcome!” like he’s been doing it his whole life. 🙂
