He really loves the show Little Einsteins and the main character is a rocket, which is his new favorite thing/toy/character. Whenever it comes on, you can tell he’s trying to sing along to the theme song… This is what it sounds like.

The sound a dog makes—woof!
The sound a cat makes—meow!
Moon—not sure where he picked it up, but he knows it!
Kite—he saw it on WordWorld then recognized it in an Elmo book.
After lunch, I was counting Owen’s fingers as I cleaned them: “One, two, three, four, five”—and he finished (in his own enunciation, of course) “sih, sehv, ay, nigh, teh!”
I decided to finally make a list of the words Owen knows—just for the fun of it, as well as knowing that the pediatrician will ask how many words he knows at his 24 month appointment and I’d like more than a guesstimate.
These are all that I can think of off the top of my head—I’m sure I’m forgetting some. Of course, most of them aren’t enunciated perfectly, but we can tell what he’s saying.

He is also getting better at finding letters when you ask him: “Owen, where’s the G?” and he’ll look at all the letters on the refrigerator until he finds it. Or when you tell him to find his milk, he will. He has also successfully pointed out Big Bird, Oscar, and Grover.
We are really loving watching him learn.
GUESS WHO CLIMBED OUT OF HIS PACK AND PLAY THIS MORNING?!?! 😮
I heard him making noises (through the wall—I’m in the bedroom next to his) but then it was quiet again so I thought I’d just let him lay there. He’s always been pretty good about laying quietly once he gets up, so I didn’t bother to turn the video monitor on. But then I heard him chattering again so I went in there.Â
And imagine my total shock and surprise to see him standing at the end of the bed, as if he just slid off (the PnP is between the bed and the closet door with barely any space on the sides…so my guess is that he somehow got out onto the bed and didn’t just go over the end of the PnP).Â
Oh. My.Â
He hasn’t ever tried to escape before, so I think he was just trying to get his B (blanket) which he had chucked over the edge. At least I hope that’s all it was, because I am not prepared to deal with this right now (away from home).
Hoo boy.Â
Owen is picking up more and more words. It’s so fun to hear him say something and you realize he’s referring to something new! Since we’ve been on vacation, he’s said: ice cream, boat, done, bee, train, and door. And I am sure I’m forgetting some.
Before we left, he was saying (and recognizing) shoe, bird, car, and bike among others. And again I’m sure I’m forgetting some.
I knew I should have written them down AS he said them. 😮
Did anyone else realize how quickly and securely Kraft slices stick to magazine pages? You learn something new every day with a toddler.
Owen has been learning and recognizing more and more letters, so I just tested him and these were the letters he knew. The ones on the right were clear and definitive; the ones on the left sounded close enough. Go, Owen!
Last night Tom and I both watched as Owen stepped off the last patio step—with no assistance and not holding the sides. Of course, neither of us had our phone (camera) on us. So this morning we were out for morning playtime when he started doing it again—and I caught it this time!
Owen has discovered his nose. Or, more specifically, his nostrils. His finger is ALWAYS in his nose. Not picking or rooting around or anything, but just IN his nose.
He knows the letter A. We were in Joann Fabrics the other day in the aisle with wooden letters, and he grabbed the A and said “AY!” And just now, on Sesame Street, the letter of the day is A and it was on the screen and he said “AY!” So he’s not talking, but he does know some of his letters (the others being O and sometimes D, and he will say some of the letters when he sing the Alphabet Song).
So today at lunch, Owen was eating Cheerios and he says “Oh!” Yep, that’s an O. Yay, Owen!
Then we were watching Sesame Street and the monsters were singing a goodbye song, and he started waving.
I love these little moments.
