We were watching our friends’ kids overnight so they could stay out. Katie wanted to sleep with them!

We went out to dinner to celebrate a friend’s birthday and we discovered Katie is a peanut-shucking queen! She didn’t want the peanuts, but just kept shucking them and shucking them. It kept her busy…and quiet!

She was being a stinker after dinner and was pouting at one point. This is what I captured in three pics taken in quick succession. A complete pout to a devilish grin. She’s going to be a troublemaker…
All dressed up and nowhere to go.
I rarely put her in a dress on a normal day, but it was short sleeved so worked well for a warm morning.
And it worked well for playing in the dog crate, too!
I think she was hungry.
We were playing in the play room when she disappeared and came back with a bib I had left out for the garage sale pile.
So I put it on her.
Then she went to the open diaper bag and pulled out a squeeze fruit.
So I gave it to her.
Them she went back to the bag and brought yogurt puffs.
So I gave them to her.
Then she disappeared into the kitchen…and came back with gummy fruits and a granola bar. I opened them but she was pretty much done by then.
Someone was busy when I wasn’t looking.
Moving the cat food from the bowl in the kitchen to a pile on the living room floor in front of Charlie.
Then moving that pile piece by piece over to Maggie.

Katie wanted to sit in Owen’s chair after dinner…which was fine until Owen came back and he wanted to sit in his chair again. So Katie moved over all on her own so he could sit with her!
One of these is not like the other.

She would hang on the pole saying “Swing swing! Swing swing!” Then fall down onto her butt (like she did at the gymnastics place on the uneven bars).
Bagel Tuesday
Panera has a bakers dozen bagels for $6.99 on Tuesdays, so we go about once or twice a month. Sometimes I just run in, but sometimes we both go in and share a bagel before hitting our other errands.
I let Katie pick where we sit…and today she picked the huge 10-person table. 🙂

I just threw a load of clean towels on top of Maggie and Katie was concerned: “Maggie?!”
Then I pulled off a towel as I said “Where’s Maggie?” and Katie said her first real sentence: “I see Maggie!”

Jumping Birthday Party
We had a birthday party for one of our best friend’s kids at the bounce house place today.

Around the time we wanted to leave, we couldn’t find Owen anywhere. Tom and I each took a turn looking (and there’s only so much you can see without actually going into the bounce houses yourself) and neither of us could find him in the throng of kids. Turns out, he was in the under four area playing with blocks. Yep, it was time to leave! But a great time was has by both kids!
It feels good to be outside!
It was 50° and sunny so we took the kids to the playground on the way home to burn off some energy.
Then little miss learned how to walk up the slide. Only a little heart-stopping.
Katie’s first driveway nap
After my eye appointment today on base, we had a 40 minute drive home…right around Katie’s naptime…so yep, she fell asleep. She does not transfer well—a five-minute car nap means her real nap will be postponed for a few hours. If we were going to be at home, we’d try again, but that wouldn’t be possible today because we have Owen’s valentines party.
What was really surprising is that she didn’t wake up when the car stopped OR when I opened my door…either of which typically happens. So for the first time ever, I left Katie in the car to take her nap. (Actually, it was the first time I’ve ever done it with either kid!) And while I know she’s safe—it’s sunny and warm in the car plus I keep checking on her about every 10 minutes (and she hasn’t even moved)—it still feels weird even though I know people do it.
That said, she slept about an hour. I had hoped for even more but an hour was pretty good and better than nothing—and likely as best as I could hope for today. 🙂
And it was warmer in the car than I thought—she was a little sweaty. 🙂

This is what I found this morning—she had her jammies unzipped and her diaper 95% off without having her legs out.

Nothing yet…but she likes trying!
She watches like a hawk when any of us go to the bathroom (she’ll even sit on the stool in front of the sink to wait) and she has started wanting to go in herself. Of course she hasn’t actually been successful yet…but our fingers are crossed since we definitely deserve an easy potty training experience after what we’re going through with Owen (he had a few tiny successes early on like this, but they were just flukes). (I just looked back and the first fluke of Owen peeing in the potty? At 27 months!)
