Owen wanted to go for a walk…

So off we went. He put on his new fast shoes so he could run…but then didn’t do too much running because he said his legs hurt. I asked where and he pointed to his shins. I’m wondering if he’s having growing pains…? I think I was a bit older, but I remember my legs hurting and my parents telling me my bones were growing… So I told him his bones are probably growing. Of course he asked why and I told him that’s how he gets taller. Ohhhhh! I told him not everyone can feel their bones grow so he’s special…just like mama. 🙂

Then he wanted to push Katie. Needless to say we had to wait until we were back on our less-travelled street because he cannot manage anything resembling a straight line. Of course he’s hamming it up doing circles in the video, but it’s not too far off. Then he even had to stop to put oil on the wheels (using his sunglasses that he found in the stroller pocket). Unfortunately I didn’t get that in the video.

Helping Grannie make apple pies!

I requested Lin’s apple pies for the freezer, so that was today’s project…and Owen was “helping.” Lin said he was very patient the whole time. 🙂

Owen was playing with Stuffy (the blue dinosaur from Doc McStuffins) and was attaching him to the apple peeler using a rubberband as a safety harness.

Sometimes this is what happens

Sometimes this is what happens when you send Owen to put on his PJs without assistance. I mostly have them in the drawer as sets, but he pulled out these two odd pieces. At least they match, right? And at least he can do it by himself!!

If you’re wondering about the pose, he’s pretending to be a statue because Medusa got him.

A dinosaur in town!

So we had to pick up Tom’s car on the way back from the movie today and I had Owen with me.

While we were stopped at a light:

Owen: Mama! I see a dinosaur!
Me: A dinosaur? Really? Where?
Owen: Over there!
Me: On a sign? Or a wavy tube dinosaur? [We had just seen a wavy tube fox so I thought it was possible.]
Owen: No! Over there!

And by god, I saw it.

Owen: And there’s a guy riding him!
Me: Yep, I can see that, too!

He’s so observant it scares me.

A great day to be outside!

Wow. Just wow.

Today was one of those rare North Carolina days where the weather is perfect, there’s a nice breeze, there’s no bugs, and it’s perfectly glorious to be outside…so we took full advantage of it!

I got out the kid enclosure our friends loaned us to put Katie on the deck under the umbrella (so I didn’t have to worry about sun) and she didn’t mind it too much.

And then he climbed in with Katie.

Meanwhile I was catching up on some of my big ol’ stack o’ magazines.

And Owen was running around playing with/snapping his Indiana Jones whip (something he’s not allowed to do inside), running around the yard, climbing on his playset, and playing with his army men* that he earned this morning for pooping. 🙂

And here you can see him in all his adorable action:

We came inside for a little bit because after her nap, Katie was NOT having it…but when daddy got home, we decided to eat dinner outside!! By then it was a little cooler but still definitely worth staying out to enjoy it.

Ahhh, spring!

* The army men were an unplanned surprise. They were a gift from Grandma Marsha probably two years ago (in a Diego backpack) that we just tucked away until he was old enough to play with them. And I had kinda forgotten about them as they were in Katie’s closet (Owen’s old closet). But today, Owen happened to be in her room with us and the closet doors were open and his inquisitive eyes glommed on to Diego RIGHT away: “What is this?!” 🙂 Then he opened it and found the army men…which I then immediately used as a potty training bribe!

Playing School

We’ve started playing school while Katie takes her nap.

Today we had “lunch”—Owen put his fake food in the “oven” (the space under Katie’s jumper), told me to be patient while it cooked, then we shared everything—and then we did workbooks. He calls me Teacher Mom. 🙂

Then we had a visitor:

He’s pretty good at drawing lines and tracing, but completely loses interest in everything after about 15 minutes.

It’s also very frustrating trying to teach him how to hold a pencil/crayon/marker so I need to google tips on that.
