For only having practiced together for five days, I think they did amazing!
After the performances they called friends and family on the field to practice marching steps! We opted to stay in the bleachers to watch!
WTHS Band Boosters have been posting band camp pics on Facebook this week. Can you see Owen?
This is what happened when he came home from band camp!
Katie was running around with a friend and brought me some lilacs from the bushes outside! My first of the season!
He had to turn in the band tux so this was how he came home!
Of course I had the worst seat possible to get a picture of Owen…This was Tom’s shot. They did well.
Northern Illinois Music Conference
Thankfully it wasn’t too far to Highland Park Middle School—and they looked pretty alert for 8am.
Between performances we just hung around the library/cafeteria area with Lucas’ parents. It’s a really nice school.
Owen’s big ensemble did The Entertainer and it was really good!
After the performance, the judge gives them a few tips and suggestions and has them practice some bars again to see the difference. It’s really neat.
Can you spot Owen?
Getting ready to play in the jazz band! Watch for his solo!
And then an outfit change into a tux for the 8th grade portion!
This was the first in-person band concert since March 2019!
It wasn’t nearly as bad as one would think. Honest!
My favorite song was their encore, which actually sounded like something you’d hear on a football field!! And best of all? No performance anxiety!!
We have heard all great things about both kids teachers so we’re very excited for the school year. (Good friends of ours told us that they would take Owen’s teacher for every grade from here on out!)
Katie’s was first thing in the morning. If you can believe it, she was super shy. Like SUPER shy.
Owen’s was in the afternoon. He was only somewhat shy. But he was most excited to check out all the names on the desks to make sure that his least favorite classmate from last year was not in his class (she wasn’t).
And then it was off to his first band lesson—a super quick half hour of how to put the saxophone together and make some noise. There were probably 25 kids just for sax alone! Our fingers are crossed that he doesn’t hate it.
