Katie’s first haircut!

Though I’d recently been thinking about getting Katie’s hair trimmed, I hadn’t yet gone through with it. But, when we ended up across the way from a kids’ cut place (Cartoon Cuts) at the mall, we asked if she wanted to get her hair cut and she said yes!

And she did amazing! It helped, I’m sure, that she got to watch cartoons the whole time! 🙂

He blow-dried it which made it look completely unlike her normal self, and of course, we couldn’t get her to pose for a decent pic.

The neat thing about an actual kids’ place? I got this automatically. 🙂

Then it was off to the bouncy place—her treat for being a good girl during the haircut.

This was the photo attempt at home:

So I’ll have to get a better one tomorrow. 🙂

Grade 1 Morning 2

I wanted a closeup of his hair but the pic didn’t turn out too well. And I’m still practicing getting the front spikes just right—it’s a good thing he’s not picky!

He took a book this mornimg. 🙂

I know the number of parents will lessen after the first week…but WOW there’s a lot of people at our stop this year.

I’m actually kind of looking forward to NOT having to go (it’s only a requirement to be there for kindergarteners) but then I miss chatting with my friends…so I’m sure I’ll skip some days (so Owen can gain some responsibility) and go some days (so I can talk to other adults). 🙂

All the pics from my day at once.

She always wants to comb my hair but I only let her on days that I wash and condition it.

He said it was costume day so we did this (he can’t get in/out of his costumes by himself).

ABCs while shopping.

This is what she was busy doing while I wasn’t watching. And this is her pout when I tell her she needs to pick them all up.

She tried a ham and cheese (no condiment) sandwich—and actually ate most of it!

I decided to make my all-time favorite garlic toast today because the bread was on sale B1G1 at the store.

“Mama, I want to put the water in please.” Except 98% of it didn’t make it in.

Outdoor lap selfie!

The little stink beat me!!

Haircut, Katie, and cool spoons with ice cream!

Okay, a bit of randomness that I didn’t feel like composing separate posts about… 🙂

We decided to give Owen a haircut. We had asked him before we left if he wanted it cut or if he wanted to try and grow it out (with the condition that if he wanted to grow it out, he had to let me put gel in it for school) and he said yes, he wanted to grow it out. Okay, fine. Fast forward a few days and he decided yes, he wanted it short. That was fine by me, so Tom cut it. I didn’t get an actual after picture, but stay tuned until later in this post.

Bye bye long locks!

I’ve wanted really long hair my whole life. The closest I previously got was in 2009 after I had Owen…at which point I got fed up with it and chopped off 8″ to donate.

Fast forward almost FIVE years and it was even longer (though I don’t think by much)…and I was ready to cut it again. Apparently for me, the romanticized idea of long hair is better than the reality. It’s hard (time consuming) to blow straight, it gets knotted if you don’t comb it out daily (which begets tons of split ends), it’s constantly getting caught, and it spent the majority of time in a stupid pony tail.

I didn’t take an immediate Before pic, but this is somewhat recent:

I would have liked to donate it again, but I had way too many inches of split ends (which they don’t want). As it turned out, it’s a tad shorter than I’d have liked…but I wanted ALL of the yucky ends trimmed so it’s super healthy. And of course I feel like I have no hair (I think she cut off a good 6-8″).

The aftermath:

And the new me:

A friend commented that she loved the color—and was surprised to learn it was natural! I guess I don’t have to worry quite yet about covering the gray!

I always said I wouldn’t color my gray…

But just a little wouldn’t hurt, right?! I know I have some gray, but when I looked at this pic I snapped today, I have to admit I was a little shocked.

Facebook comments:

  1. Kristin—I don’t mind my gray either, but my hairdresser seems to. She owns my hair, so I get what I get. 🙂
  2. Jean—Love graying hair! Don’t change it.
  3. Tommy—If you color, go crazy. A magenta or blue streak ought to look good there.
  4. Brad—Hair color questions aside, this is a very good picture of you. You could do what I do and get a “tint” – I’ve got a little less natural gray than what I see in your picture, but when I went to my new style a few years ago, my wife convinced me to try the tint as well. The analogy my stylist uses is that the tint is like stain or varnish on wood; it’s translucent and lets the underlying product show through, albeit with a slightly different color, whereas an actual dye job is more like paint. I’m probably going to get hate mail from this, but since you asked: Knowing about what age you are, I’d cover it a little, whether tint or the full works. Strictly my opinion. 🙂
  5. Me—I’m not hiding my age: I turned 40 this year. 🙂
  6. Kelly—You’re pretty.
  7. Eddy—Just remember, you earned that gray hair!
  8. Kristin—Eddy, that’s how I look at it. I earned it. And Kelly, you’re completely correct.
  9. Katherine—I dye mine every 4-6 weeks. I will NOT go gray without a fight. At least not until I’m a grandmother.
  10. Tom—What happened??? I have only been gone six months!
  11. Me—I told you it’s been rough.
  12. Wendy—Time to hit the (dye) bottle.
  13. Elizabeth—I may have earned my gray hair but I def don’t want to see it! (at least not until I’m older) 🙂 Dye that up!
  14. Me—FYI Tom said he liked it but I can color it if I want.
  15. Wendy—Tom said that because he is a very wise man. He knows there is no other answer.
  16. Ruth—YOU LOOK GORGEOUS! I wouldn’t color it!

Daddy wanted to go on errands with us.

Tom texted me on Facebook to say good morning and I told him we were headed out on errands. He said he’d like to go with us, so I kept sending pictures. And FYI it’s harder than you’d think to take pictures while you’re shopping…while trying to keep an eye on one and keeping the phone away from the other who wants “Alno.” 🙂

Owen’s cute new ‘do!

He was getting a bit scraggly so it was off for a haircut today. He said he wanted it short like daddy’s but we didn’t go quite that far. I wish I’d thought to do it before school pics last week.

No during photos because I forgot my phone…but he’s amazing now. No complaints, no whining, nothing. I even had to leave for a minute to take Katie out for a diaper change! He even told the lady about his toe!
