Fire truck field trip!

It was only outside to the school parking lot but it’s still considered a field trip. 🙂

The class got to see a real fire engine, walk through it, and talk to the firemen. He also got his own fireman’s hat (though I didn’t get a good pic of him in it).

We were all asking him about it on the way home from the airport…

Grannie: Did they sound the siren?
Owen: No, you only do that in an emergency.
Papa: Did they shoot water from the hose?
Owen: No, you only do that when there’s a fire.

Well, he IS right. 🙂

Hurrying to get her in summer outfits!

She has some 18m summer outfits that I’m trying to get her in before she outgrows them and the season changes! I can’t remember which Grandma this dress was from…but I paired it with a pair of white leggings. Cute!

She’s also becoming a bit of a PITA to get a picture of… I remember when Owen went through this stage…thankfully it only lasted about six months if I recall correctly.

One of her favorite pastimes…emptying the toy boxes.

Markers, Day 2

Owen promised and PROMISED and PROMISED to use them correctly. So, an hour or so after he earned them back…they were ruined (he pressed the tips hard enough to disappear into the marker) PLUS he left them all uncapped and laying all over plus on the floor (which he was warned about yesterday). So I threw them all in the garbage.

Oh, and he had marker ON HIS LIPS and on his body. And there was marker on the toilet seat. Plus he had glue (from the “art set”) all over him! Ages 3+ my ass.

I may have lost my shit just a little.

I can tell I really need a break because normally I think things like that are funny or picture-worthy…and I’m not feeling that anymore. As a matter of fact, I feel like I’m failing…big time.

I’ll just say that Grannie and Papa’s visit cannot come soon enough.

Two weeks…

Cute new jams

Someone had a bath tonight and wore her new jams. Thanks again, Gramma Jean!

Then Owen wanted to take some pictures so I handed him my big camera and of course it’s heavy and he can’t remember to keep looking through the frame (or even keep looking at the screen) so he got a lot of nothing…but he did get these two!

The best pic I could get of her new outfit from Gramma Jean:

As soon as she sees me toss clean laundry in the chair, she’s over there like a shot. Usually she pulls everything off the chair but today she just played with stuff.

And hanging out with Owen again:

M&Ms are exciting!

We got a package from Gramma Jean today and Owen was super excited to open it since I had told him GJ was sending him something.

He thought the shirt was okay, got a little more excited about the growing animals…and then was OVER THE MOON when he realized there were M&Ms in the little container! It’s the little things, I guess. 🙂

The Katie jams were great, too, as we seem to always be running short on them. Thanks, Gramma!

Feeding the ducks!

Since the temps really dropped today (with it being overcast and off-and-on rainy) I thought it would be a good time to go feed the ducks!

Me: Owen, do you want to go feed the ducks?
Owen: No.
Me: Why not?
Owen: Papa isn’t here.
Me: That’s okay. We can still go feed the ducks.
Owen: No! I told you we only go with Papa!
Me: Well Papa isn’t going to be here for a long time, so if you want to go now, we can go. Then when Papa comes down, you can go with him.
Owen: OKAY!

So off we went, with Katie in the stroller (I didn’t have the patience to have her walk and try to contain her by the ponds).

Then there was a female duck that Owen called a baby duckie because it was so much smaller than these other birds. I hope you can hear him in the video—it was windy and he was pointed away from me.

And see…Katie really was with us!

Then Owen told me we had to go to the other water to look for ducks, so we trekked across the course. No ducks. But he wanted to roll down the hill! I convinced him to wait and roll down the big hill that WASN’T covered in duck poop. 🙂

A good time was had by all.

Anyone want to paint?

I don’t suppose anyone would want to come paint my half bath? We just did it when we moved in two years ago (and when I say WE I mean my mom did it)…but it’s brown. Which, at the time, was fine. But with all the, um, potty training issues in that room…I’d really like a different color. But I suck at painting and have no idea how to pull out the toilet and sink.

Mom, are you up to painting it again when you come down? Pretty pretty please? 🙂

Skyping…when all hell broke loose.

Subtitled: No our kids aren’t drunk.

It started off innocently enough with Katie crawling up to see what Tom was doing.

Then she has to sidle up next to him.

And just like that, all the fun ended when Katie spit up on me. Katie and Owen had apparently just played and laughed so hard for so long that Katie spit up milk chunks all over me. And not just your run-of-the-mill spit up…but horrid smelling curdled nastiness that required a quick shower to get the stench off my skin.

But overall…a good time!

We struck gold twice.

So, when we were home on our recent vacation, we got out some old slides. I wanted to show them to Tom and Owen…but I was also hoping to find pictures of me in some of the outfits of mine that I’ve been putting on Katie. And we struck gold twice.

Green and floral shirt, circa about 1975-76.

And from October 18, 2012 (see original post here).

I’m thinking the shirt HAD to have shrunk, as I was obviously about 2 or 3 years old when I was wearing it…and Katie was 3 months old. I guess I’ll keep it around and try again when Katie is older, just for laughs. 🙂

And no, mom, I don’t think she looks like me. But I’m digging your plaid pants. 🙂

The second outfit is a blue jumper, seen here on me about early 1974 (unless I was sitting at three months by December 1973) with a doll in almost the same outfit.

And on Katie on November 11, 2012 (see original post here).

There is NO way that we look even remotely close in these pictures…in fact, I think I look a little like my older cousin Greg and Katie looks like, well, Katie. 🙂

Stay tuned for more old slides…

And down our street as well…

So, since the satellite view was new, I just decided to check out the street view as well…

2013-07-07_googlestreet

My first simultaneous thoughts were “YAY! A picture where the grass is finally green!” and “Wow, it’s been since we got the new car!” (Which seems like yesterday but it’s already been 1-1/2 years!)

The clues:

  1. We got the car in January 2012.
  2. Old photos show the water-sprinkler seal in use on April 17, 2012; this corresponds to when my mom and Dave were visiting—April 14–21, 2012—as she gave him the seal.
  3. The backyard pool went up on May 5, 2012, and I think we got rid of the seal then.

So, the best I can date this photo is April 17–May 5, 2012.

ETA: I checked the street view online (vs. mobile) and it says it was generated in October 2012…so I went back and checked my photos and yep, we had the seal out then, too.

Google maps has been overhead recently

I was checking Google maps today to see how many in-ground pools were in our subdivision (for no real reason other than it’s a question that popped into my head while driving to Costco) when I realized that our satellite view has been (somewhat) recently updated.

I love how much I can determine from what we can see:

Previously, our view was fenceless. Now? The shed is there (so, after April 2012) but there’s a dead spot in the backyard grass where the pool was (so, after October 2012) but wait!—that’s not Tom’s car OR my car in the driveway!—whose is it? Aha! Dad and Linda’s minivan! And they were there in February 2013. And from the amount of stuff on the curb, it looks like garbage pickup day so it’s a Monday morning. And Tom’s at work (hence his car not being there) and since my car isn’t there I’m guessing I was running errands.

Looking back at my calendar, Katie had a 9:00 appointment for her flu booster on Monday, February 18…so that’s when Google got us.

Creepy or cool?
