Egg hunt 2023

Katie was ready at 5am—she’s ALL about the egg hunt. And I think Owen is about over it.
And then the ever important opening and sorting process.
Going through the pysanky my mom calls the “rejects” and picking some heirlooms. They are gorgeous. Next visit will be the “good” eggs.
These were some of the “better” ones:
When she actually washes her hair (and doesn’t put it in a ponytail) and wears real clothes (not sweats and wrinkled clothes), she looks like a real girl (as opposed to a grungy kid).
Gramma bought each kid their own pysanky kit and gave them each their second lesson tonight! They each wanted to do an egg for Ukraine!
I don’t take quite as many photos of the egg hunt anymore but they still love it.
We got caught up in finishing Ozark so we were up much later than expected prepping for the Easter Bunny. And the weather stinks so the eggs have to be hidden throughout the messy house…
Katie left a request for the EB to put up the last sheet of Easter window clings—she even left the scissors out so he could open them. She also specifically told me she wrote “like you” instead of “love you” — maybe love is too strong for the EB? Kids.
Also, she wrote that note in like 2 minutes happy as a clam. I try to get her to write a sentence for homework and you’d think I was asking for War and Peace.
My neighbor texted to say that her kids wanted to hide some eggs for Owen and Katie. They had a blast hunting for them and discovering their spoils!
But in my defense they were half off after Easter. 🙂
I mean, with the post-Easter 70% discount it was $3.
The boy options weren’t nearly as cute but I got Owen a new one, too.
Easter candy is half off at Target! I texted Tom and he said when it gets to 70% I need to go back for more!
This year he left the eggs outside!!
The good thing about the kids getting older? I don’t feel the need to be up at 6:30am with them to look for eggs! (Tom was up, though–he’s always up!) I heard them excitedly searching for and finding them, then rolled over and went back to sleep for a bit. When I did get up, I made them pose with their because of course. 🙂
This is part of what it looks like while I’m trying to take them:
And then moments later they got their Easter treat: xbox time!
So, once again this year I convinced Owen to leave the Easter Bunny a note requesting something other than candy—I told him it went so well before that it might work again. So, Owen wrote this note:
And the Easter Bunny left this note:
And gifts!! Along with a very few hidden eggs with gummy candies, Owen got a Nexo Knights costume, Katie got a Lego birthday cake, and they got a Pokémon Magikarp hat to share!
Granny Lin sent the kids some Easter treats… These are chair covers that Owen immediately co-opted for a hat.
We told Owen he had to wait for us to come get him in the morning, otherwise he likely would have found all the eggs before Katie even got out of bed! (We also said it in case we didn’t get around to hiding the eggs before bed and Tom had to do it in the morning.)
Every time Katie opened an M&M, it went straight into her mouth. 🙂
A “fused” photo so I had one without Owen’s tongue sticking out. 🙂
Some fancy twirling in her new tutu. And we have NO idea where Owen got the “I’m going to text my friends” bit. NO IDEA.
Katie has started taking after Owen with the crazy faces when I’m trying to take a picture.
The ears didn’t fit Owen at all so it was only a matter of time before this happened!
Since it’s Easter, I thought I’d pull out a pretty hand-me-down dress from the Beson girls—and of course Katie LOVES it! She kept saying “It’s so BEAUTIFUL! Look at my beautiful dress!” 🙂
And the best two:
And since she was dressed up, and we were actually all getting dressed to go out on errands, we took a family picture!
We don’t have much candy but do have other things…so I suggested to Owen maybe he could ask for less candy. I may have also suggested Katie might want a tutu. 🙂
This was the Easter Bunny’s response:
So Owen was up early with Tom as usual and told Tom that there was an R2-D2 downstairs. That’s one of the “eggs” we hid, and Tom knew he hadn’t been downstairs so was perplexed as to how he knew about it. So he had a talk with him about lying. But Owen claimed he wasn’t lying so Tom finally said “Okay, show me.” And Owen took him to the landing which overlooks the entryway…and part of the toy room where Katie’s changing station is…where Tom had, in fact, placed an R2-D2 on the corner in plain sight!! Mr. Eagle Eyes strikes again!!
Then, surprisingly, when we headed downstairs, he completely missed the egg on the windowsill on the landing…Katie actually saw it as she was coming down (in video).
Owen sharing his eggs with Katie because we warned him not to grab all the eggs before she could see them!
He loved the R2-D2 containers!
She found about three eggs and then she was done—she was opening them and eating the candy as fast as she could!
We tried to get a double bunny ear picture but it wasn’t happening. This was all we got. 🙂
She wanted her bubbles right away!
Dinosaur apron from Grannie Lin!
Chocolate bunny and Lego from Grandma Marsha and Uncle Rob!
Some of the eggs had barrettes and hair ties for Katie! She’s putting one on her wrist here.
Owen REALLY LOVED his chick!
Both kids ate a package of the Despicable Me gummies Grandma Marsha sent!
“Open please daddy?”
Now watch me as I try to shove all four eggs in my mouth at once!
This is daddy laughing at how piggy Katie is being.
A full mouth!
“Bunny!!!”
The aftermath!
You can see her hoarding her Robins Eggs. 🙂
Overall it was a great success! I think they missed a few eggs so they’ll find them throughout the day. And while candy and chocolate was their pre-breakfast snack, they didn’t do too badly!
