Campfire and fireworks!

Thanks to the magic of a little packet from the fireworks shop, this is how we do campfires on vacation… 🙂

Katie’s first sparkler. She was…intrigued. She didn’t love it and she didn’t hate it.

And then the fireworks! It was a wild crapshoot because we didn’t know what 90% of them were supposed to do…we just stood back and watched…and we had a few close calls with things whizzing by us and up and into the neighbors yard. EEK! But the kids loved it!

Well, they thought some of them were a little loud. 🙂

Of course we did the pooping dog again!

And we still have a bunch left that we hope to get to before we go home!

After the group photo, he commandeered the tripod to use as a cannon…and then actually as a tripod and was pretending to take pictures.

Eating s’mores—or in Katie’s case, eating the chocolate bar off the graham cracker.

Fire, Fireworks & Stones

Gramma Jean wanted to try out her new fire pit…so we all headed outside. The kids loved running around and of course Owen had to get out his new water gun. 🙂

Uncle Rob was nice enough to go in and fill up the water gun…but surprised Owen by shooting him! It’s blurry but I love Owen’s body!

She stayed pretty far from the fire once daddy yelled at her for getting too close. 🙂

Katie liked the pooping dog—except for the popping and crackling at the end.

In addition to Katie’s first fireworks (MUCH earlier than Owen’s first fireworks!), she also got her first sparkler. She was okay with it…but not thrilled.

Owen’s first s’more!

For real! We’ve made them before at his request, but he didn’t want to actually eat it. But tonight?! HE DID! And he asked for a second one (though he didn’t finish it). Tom and I were just FLOORED. He also wanted to help roast the marshmallows…until he realized how hot it was by the fire and how long you had to hold it there. 🙂

S’MORES CHEERS!

Volcano Take 2 & Owen’s first s’more

Watching the volcano.

Attempting to roast a marshmallow. He looks close, but he was actually about two feet too far away. We kept trying to move his chair closer, but he kept dragging it back. I guess all our warnings of “FIRE! HOT! DANGEROUS! STAY BACK!” worked a little too well. 🙂

Investigating the still-cold marshmallow.

Where the marshmallow actually spent most of its time…

Daddy to the rescue!

When it finally came time to eat it, he was more interested in watching himself eat it than actually eating it.

Volcano, Take 1

Well, we were going to have a “volcano” (fire) tonight with s’mores (Owen keeps asking about marshmallows)…until Owen was eating a marshmallow and didn’t quite chew it fully before swallowing…so he half choked and ended up barfing all over Tom. So that was the end of the volcano (good thing Tom hadn’t started the fire yet) for the night.

Watching the canos!

Tom was burning twigs and dead bushes from the yard, and as soon as Owen saw the fire pits, he exclaimed VOLCANOES (or, in his exact terminology—canos!). 🙂 He stood on the deck and watched them and was so into them…

I finally just sat him in the chair where he sat for a good 20 minutes just watching and chattering about the canos…telling them to “wake up” when they started to die down. Tom also said he had to feed them, so Owen was saying “nom nom nom.”
