Playing in the snow at Gramma’s!

Owen wanted to be buried!

Greetings from the Great White Snowy North!
Yes it’s pretty…I’ll give you that. ❄️

It’s beginning to look a lot like…
Excuse my French. LOL

Though honestly I wouldn’t say that until it was a bit more blizzard-y.
The look of a sister.
We stopped to eat dinner at Culver’s. I simply asked for a pic and this is what I got. I love it.

I’m having a really rough time tonight.
I’m working on my annual holiday letter and going through all of 2017’s blog posts and it’s a lot sadder than I anticipated rereading all the great times we had with dear friends that we greatly miss. I know this happens EVERY time we move and it’s the way of the military life but it still surprises me and never gets easier. NEVER. 💔😥

Wildcat Wednesday

Katie’s long-awaited conference
I finally made it in for Katie’s rescheduled-from-Thanksgiving P/T conference. Why did it take so long, you ask? Good question. Buckle up.
So, remember we missed P/T conferences due to a death in our family? Well, I didn’t think it would be a big deal to reschedule…because why would it be?! And Owen’s (third grade) was fine, but for Katie (kindergarten) it seemed to be a huge deal and it could. not. be. done. But no one ever gave a reason—just that it couldn’t be done.
To her credit the teacher tried to have me come in over lunch on a day I was going to volunteer, but a week later I got an email saying “I’ve been advised by my team to not schedule a conference outside of conference week.” What?! What the hell difference does it make? She said we can do it over the phone but I really really hated that idea. I just could not fathom any reasonable explanation for this.
Not trying to be annoying or make a mountain out of a molehill—but obviously wanting an answer—I emailed the principal (and CCd the teacher) explaining funeral, other kid’s rescheduling, past school’s experience, and simply asked for clarification.
FIVE DAYS LATER (!) I got an email from the teacher saying she’d talked with the principal about my email and although it was against district policy, it was decided that she can meet with me (“since your son’s teacher did”) but I never actually received any response from the principal regarding the policy in general but the teacher says it’s strictly a district-wide rule so it doesn’t start an avalanche. She said technically Owen’s teacher shouldn’t have done it. (And she didn’t care–she was just following the rules.) I told her we can always meet outside of school over a bottle of wine.
But I digress. 🙂
Katie is doing very well—she’s on par for pretty much every thing. The teacher’s only real comment was that she’s “a little chatty.” 🙂
On the way out I saw this wall so had to stop and look for Katie’s.

A boy and his dog.

Silly cat in a bag.
I sat this bag on the couch and within a few minutes she’d crawled in.

Owen’s holiday party!
The room mom had a game prepared for me so all I had to do was show up and run the game!

I’m a fill in mom today.
When you weren’t planning on wearing makeup but you got called in as a replacement volunteer mom for your kid’s holiday party…

Ugh. Again.
When you finally realize that the fabric softener explosion from two weeks ago actually did run down the floor vent and came out through the duct and then dripped through the basement ceiling tiles and down the wall (and ledge!) and all over a plastic storage container (it’s going in the garbage because I have literally ZERO patience to clean it), all over a pile of Legos, and then pooled on the floor.

Owen brought home this gift for the family.

She’s quite happy with herself.
She loves ink stamps. As you can see. 🙂

We thought it might be a bookshelf.
She had other ideas.

Charlie is helping me with Christmas cards.
She was obviously desperate for some attention and decided this is where she had to be while I was doing business Christmas cards.

To cut or not?
Every once in awhile I will take a photo where my hair happens to look shorter…and I usually like it. Today was that day.

I don’t think I’d want to go much shorter than this…
But.
If what usually happens actually happens, I’ll now have a dream where I cut my hair short (or it accidentally gets cut short) and I completely freak out and wonder what the hell I was thinking.
That said, I am not planning on doing anything until the color starts coming out again…at a bare minimum. Stay tuned.
Exact opposites!
How hilarious is this? Look at their outfits!

Christmas with Papa and Grannie
Grannie got us all matching jammies! Well, matching bottoms with shirts with sayings!

Grannie made us scarves!!

Papa being silly!

2017 Santa Hats
You know you’re old when…this is in the instructions for how to call 9-1-1.

Morning photo session with the bug.
When it’s snowing as the kids get home from school, this happens.
My money is following me!!!
It’s been quite a bit colder in the mornings…
Every. Damn. Day.
Brunch with Santa!
Grannie wanted to do something “Santa-y” this weekend for the kids, so we found a Brunch with Santa… Unfortunately I think it might be the last year to see Santa—neither one wanted to sit on his lap (though honestly, neither has ever loved the idea) but they agreed to stand at his side. They did enjoy the crafts afterwards, though. 🙂
