Kidisms 19

I love Owen’s phonetic spelling attempts. Zebras? Z-E-B-R-E-R-U-S

Owen got home from school.
Katie: Daddy, come down. Owen’s in the house now.

I was cooking in the kitchen, making a marinade with honey.
Katie: Is that syrup?
Me: No, it’s honey.
Katie: I love honey.
Me: You do?
Katie: Yes.
Me: Are you sure?
Katie: Yes!
I gave her some to taste. She makes a face.
Me: You don’t like it, do you?
Katie, shaking her head: NO.

Owen: Mom, when Katie is older and gives birth?
Me: Yes? [Intrigued as to where this is going to go.]
Owen: I’ll let my kids stay up until 9:30.

What I’m wearing today.

They’re a tiny bit tight, but with the long MSU jersey they’re just fine. (While I technically hit 90.2# lost this morning, my official weigh-in isn’t until Sunday.)

And I’m also trying something new—the Short version. I’ve always had to buy Talls my entire life…but in this style, the Average was perfect. Until I lost weight…and shrunk a damn inch! The jeans still fit great overall so I thought I’d try the Short. Well…the verdict is still out. They are almost perfect while standing, but when sitting they pull up just a bit more than I’d like. So I either a) get the Average and hem/fold them or b) get the short and deal with it. 🙂

Sparty green day!

Gov. Snyder proclaims Friday ‘Spartan Green Day’

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has proclaimed Friday as “Spartan Green Day” in honor of the No. 5 Michigan State football team.

The celebratory day in Michigan is one day before the Spartans play No. 4 Iowa in the Big Ten championship in Indianapolis.

His favorite thing? He likes to go shopping at Costco. “They have so much stuff.” Complete with the Halloween Cheetos display. (I’m guessing we had just been to Costco when this was assigned!)

Nutcracker!

I saw a link on Facebook for VetTix so went to check it out—and ended up getting free tickets for the Nutcracker! (If you are Currently Serving or a Veteran use my link to sign up and earn 15 coins!)

I had never seen the Nutcracker before, so it was going to be a new experience for me, as well (Tom had seen it many, many years ago). Once we told the kids and told Katie she was going to see ballerinas, she was ALL IN. Of course, she wanted to wear a ballerina-esque dress. I didn’t bring out any of her actual ballerina outfits because I am 100% sure she would have chosen that. As it was, this was a brand new dress so she was VERY excited.

I’m thankful I read the synopsis beforehand because otherwise I would have been completely lost. As it was, I was still a little confused, and was surprised there wasn’t more actual ballet. Both kids did very, very well considering the first act was an hour long. After Katie took a bathroom break, she said she wanted to dance, so I told her to go right ahead…and then daddy and Owen came back from their bathroom break and she danced in the aisle!

The second half had MUCH more ballet than the first and was more impressive…and Katie was entranced, sitting on the edge of her seat for almost the whole thing. I, on the other hand, learned that ballet is really not my thing. But overall it was a nice afternoon out yet away from any hustle and bustle of Black Friday!

Time to decorate!

The kids were super excited about putting the tree up (since the bag had been sitting in the living room for a whole day)!

Owen was excited when I handed him two bags of Christmas Legos! He had forgotten about them!

Katie’s placement of her first three ornaments:

They were both really good helpers and I didn’t even have to help them much! Yay! And my OCD-tendencies don’t bother me at all—I don’t much care where the ornaments end up!

I don’t think this is nearly enough food.

We were invited to a friends’ house for Thanksgiving. She and her other guests cook in quantity like we do…so there wasn’t quite enough food for six adults and nine kids. 🙂

Katie’s dinner? A roll, crackers, and cheese. For dessert she tried pumpkin pie, said she liked it, then proceeded to eat just the whipped cream.

Owen’s dinner? A roll, ham, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream.

I did really well overall. I splurged on two glasses of wine throughout the evening…and it was deeelicious. (I haven’t had a glass of wine in probably four months.) Foodwise:

  • 1oz deep-fried pork loin
  • 1/2oz smoked turkey
  • about 3T each of Easter/funeral potatoes, cornbread stuffing, sweet potato casserole, and smoked corn casserole
  • 2 deviled eggs
  • 1 small Hawaiian roll

Dessert was cheesecake. I took a full slice intending to eat the whole thing dammit. And then about halfway through I said “This doesn’t even taste good anymore.” And that was that. Voodoo. 🙂

This is what she picked to wear. And she was damn cute. 🙂

The kids all had fun playing and the adults ended up watching Planes, Trains and Automobiles. 🙂

My 15 minutes of fame?!

Do you recognize anyone on Naturally Slim’s Facebook page? 🙂

2015-11-23_NS_facebook

A week or so ago I Tweeted my current results (81# lost after 26 weeks) and today they Liked it, retweeted it, and messaged me to ask if they could use it on their other social media accounts as inspiration for others. Of course I said YES! A little while later, it appeared on their Facebook page!

2015-11-23_NS_facebookcomments

Of course, I’m completely embarrassed that my bedroom is such a hot mess in the Before photos…but I’m hoping that the After photos take people’s eye’s away. 🙂

So I saw a doctor today.

Yeah.

She was nice enough, but when we were talking about why I wanted a general chem panel run (in addition to my thyroid levels) and I casually mentioned that I had recently lost 80 pounds, she didn’t really even bat an eye. Instead, she asked what I was doing for exercise. And when I told her that I was walking about a mile 3-5 times a week she kind of gave me a look, saw my FitBit, and asked how many daily steps I was getting. I told her about 7,000 and she said “You need to get that up to 10,000.”

Gee thanks, lady. Thanks for showing me any kind of positivity about LOSING 80 F***ING POUNDS.

And on top of that, I shrunk a damn inch. I am no longer 5’10”. What the bloody hell? At least Tom and I are shrinking in tandem (he lost an inch as well).

* Sidenote. I had complained about this to my friends, saying “That’s the problem being military…you get a new set of doctors every few years so no one is ever really invested in you long-term. And even while on station, you might not see the same doctor each time (unless you specifically make sure you are).” And they unilaterally said no way, I had a bad doctor. That any doctor should be THRILLED with that amount of weight loss, new patient or not. So I got a dud. I knew my friends would make me feel better. 🙂

I’m having issues getting dressed.

Now I’m finding myself much more choosy about what I look like and how clothes feel.

I have three pair of size 20 pants (not jeans) that technically fit…but they don’t fit well. The waist is too high or the thighs are weird in comparison to the waist or they just look odd with whatever shirt I pick. So in the donation pile they go.

My favorite real (i.e. non-yoga) pants are actually jeans! The pair Nancy handed down, a Jennifer Lopez pair from Kohl’s, and still those silly $14 Gloria Vanderbilts from Costco! That’s hard to get used to.

And a lot of the tops I’ve loved—that still technically fit and are technically wearble—are just a hair too big and while they’re okay…they’re not quite right. So this morning I’ve added about six more shirts to the pile.

I keep thinking I don’t need that much more in the way of clothes, but every time I get dressed, nothing seems right.

Painting snowflakes

Art night ceramics at school! I was clueless as to how to decorate my snowflake…until I finished it…at which point my mind flooded with ideas, all of which I liked better than what I did. The kids’ are great, though you are only seeing the boring back side because they were still drying. And Tom’s impressed me, too…the only one that looks like an actual snowflake! A fun night!
