We had our good friends over tonight for dinner…fun, because we love them and always have a great time…but kinda sad because it will be one of the last times before we move again.

Me: You want to go potty?

While playing in the front yard, a car goes by pretty fast.

I was getting Katie dressed and she leaned over to hug me.
Katie: I’m sad.

Katie: I miss daddy.

Owen: And we got home and I felt some little throat stuff coming up into my mouth so I ran to the bathroom and then plop.

It was raining and thundering.
Owen: Mama, do we have cheddar?
Me: Cheddar?
Owen: Yes, cheddar.
Me: Cheese?
Owen: No! Cheddar! Like on the Doc McStuffins storm show.
Me: Cheddar?! I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Owen: I’ll show you.
I put the episode on. The characters say they have each other.
Owen: See—cheddar!
Me: Ahhhh! EACH. OTHER. Two words. And yes, we have each other.
Owen: I gotta go potty.
Tom: Are you going poop?
Owen: No, pee.
Tom: Isn’t that potty?
Owen: No, pee is pee and poop is poop.
Owen has said he likes the tacos at school so we thought we’d try them at home. I just did regular ground beef with barely a hint of salt and pepper because I’m pretty sure the school doesn’t use any special taco seasoning (and Owen usually complains about things like butter or S&P).
So, we were supposed to have Taco Tuesday but I forgot an ingredient…so we had it tonight!

I also had him try “nachos”—tortilla chips he loves with the exact same ground beef and cheese and of course he said he liked it but didn’t even finish one chip. GRRR.
Baby steps. Baby steps. After all, he’s eating TACOS!!
Okay, that’s better…but I still have no idea about the hands. 🙂
EDITED TO ADD: We asked him about his hands and he said: “Remember I did that when I was a little kid. I was holding out a blue jewel.” 🙂
I’m letting the kids spend every possible moment in the pool since we won’t have it quite so convenient when we move… It was SO hot today I even got in! 🙂

I had zero energy yesterday so I made up for it today. Among other kitchen duties like emptying the dishwasher, reloading it, and cleaning up…I made my first batch of pesto!
And salmon schmear. Mmm.
Katie even liked it. 🙂
You got Cindy from “Beverly Hills 90210”! You are the main source of stability and guidance for your children. You always keep an open door and a place at your table for whomever might need it. You’re a Down-to-earth mother, who is loving and sympathetic to your children but also to your children’s often-troubled friends. You’re a role model!
I can live with that. 🙂

We went to a friends house for a play date and Katie grabbed the gardening gloves and shovel. 🙂
And enjoyed being driven around…
She also managed to get up into and out of the trampoline (using the stepstool) which nearly gave me heart failure.
Then she got to pet a kitten (they have a few strays that they feed) and she loved it—“Kitty cat! Kitty cat!”
Then she got up on the swing herself but needed me to push her. 🙂
You can’t beat a great morning spent with friends.
Owen and Katie both slept in this morning, and Owen really didn’t want to get up at all so I had Katie dressed before he even got out of bed…and she was sitting there saying “C’mon Owee!”
“Mama! Take a picture!” So I did and only realized afterwards I had to edit it. 🙂
Then just when I finally had him dressed, she crawls into his bed to pretend to sleep (one of her favorite things).
As we were packing up to leave the beach we spotted dolphins! I forgot about it until someone mentioned dolphins elsewhere and I thought “Hey, wait, I took pictures of the dolphins, why didn’t I see them?” Yeah, I had to REALLY zoom in…I had deleted the pics because I thought there was nothing in the pictures! 🙂
We are not beach people. Yes, we live somewhat close (45 minutes) so maybe we should be, but we just never go. Things get busy at home on the weekend and it’s a bit of work to go (toys, towels, snacks, drinks, diapers, wipes, yada yada yada) so we end up just staying home. But since we’re moving soon and we know the kids love the beach, we thought we’d treat them! Unfortunately, most of our beach toys were packed away, so we made do with some bath and pool toys, a big bucket, and a kids garden rake and shovel.

Then we took a break and had lunch!
It took a few hours but she was FINALLY super comfortable in the water!

The kids Owen was with had nets and caught some minnows—and he was holding one!
Katie liked bikes. However, the regular tricycle we already have is too big for her. The big-wheels-type tricycle we bought for her was too big (so we returned it). We tried a seated scooter thing that she hated so that went back, too. So we finally found a bike that she fits! Now, the challenge is to get her to ride it!

We had a showing today for a potential renter, so we just took the kids out back in the pool. Of course, they had a blast.
Then Owen was being crabby about something so Tom decided to do this and more fun ensued:

We’ve been debating selling the police car because Owen just never uses it—we practically have to force him to drive it. We mentioned selling it and he kinda freaked out saying he loved it. So we told him if he used it, we’d keep it. It would kill me to get rid of it since it was EXPENSIVE and he WANTED IT…but I hate to move it if he’s not going to use it (since there’s lots fewer places to drive it at the new place). I had hoped Katie would like it, but thus far she’s been mostly scared of it. So Owen got in it today…and had A BLAST. And after watching Owen in for about 20 minutes, Katie wanted to get in…and boy did they have fun.

The car was charging so the seats were out—so Katie hauled them around to sit on them.

We’re down one extra pool pump, half a box of clothes that Once Upon A Child bought, and we have a cleaned out glove box!
