Me: Owen, what’s this?
Owen: Maggie toes.
We made the official Facebook announcement today…
The shirt is how we shared the big news with the Len side of the family (back on December 23, when this photo was taken)…
I was unpacking with Owen in the room when I hear “Trick or treat! Trick or treat!” I wondered what could possibly have prompted that…when I look over and see him carrying his Lightning McQueen basket. 🙂

Owen is a great road tripper, but he was finally getting a little restless around Raleigh, so we decided to stop at a local park we’d been to before. He had a blast running around on the play ground, and then went over to run around the dragon (which was closed the last time we were there). He had watched an older girl jump up and kick the dragon, so he was attempting to do the same…
Owen really does have great eyesight…he’s constantly seeing things and pointing them out to us. For example, on the road trip, he constantly points out “towers!” and sometimes, we have to really look to see what he’s seeing.
So we were just getting on the road this morning when he starts saying “An arrow! Arrow!” from the back seat, so we’re looking around outside not seeing any arrow. Since his eyes are really good we really thought we were just missing it.
It turns out he was talking about the tiny arrow on the GPS screen!
We only had a few hours to visit between when the Georgia (Filipek) and Illinois (Schwalm) contingents arrived and when we had to head for home…but we had a GREAT time (even Skyping with the missing Virginians, the Coes), and morning came too soon.
Official Family Christmas Photo:
Spur of the moment photo that I like better…
I like this spur of the moment one better than our official one this year…
Well, maybe not so much cooking as watching him separate eggs. Once Owen actually started “helping” (i.e. got his fingers into it), only one ended up down the front of the dishwasher and on the floor. :>>
Oh, the energy…
Grauntie Marge got him some “magic” capsules that melt, leaving you with foam animals (<a href="like these). He loved them (as he did last year, too) and kept saying MAGIC! MORE MAGIC!
As soon as he saw the mini candy canes on Gramma’s tree, he had to have one! He picked blue…
Cute, but not nearly as cute as last year… 🙂
On our way to Michigan for Christmas, we made sure the hotel we stopped at had a pool… Tom said it was FREEZING but Owen still had a blast!
Owen now knows how to let Maggie out of her crate. “C’mon, Maggie, downstairs!”
My how we’ve changed…
We had “Christmas” this morning (since Owen won’t know the difference) so Santa could give him the train table…and he LOVED it! (We were sure he would, but you just never know.)
He is also really into opening presents now, and thinks every wrapped present is his. Soooo cute!
Also, Owen is now in 5T pants. Some 4Ts still fit, but they’re a little tight in the butt and thigh area.
Lastly, we got a decent family photo in the first session of 20 pics! (And of course, Owen looks the best!)
And with his stocking!
Owen has watched his video about 12 times and keeps asking for “More Santa!”
Grannie and Grandpa took Owen on a walk and they came back with golf clubs!! Which meant, of course, they had to have some instruction…
This is probably the last year for them to match, unless I order Owen a bigger size.
I’m impressed that Owen can tell which Backyardigans episode it is from a screenshot.
Every time I think about putting this house away for good, he starts playing with it again!
One of Owen’s favorite ornaments is the Stargate SG-1 that talks and lights up when you press a button. And it’s loud. Over and over and over.
And he also still loves the Star Trek Borg Cube…so he’ll get both of them going at the same time (yeah, I mistakenly put them within arm’s reach of one another).
Linda and I put up the tree (no lights or decorations) while Owen was outside playing with Papa, so that when he came inside, he got excited and exclaimed “CHRISTMAS TREE!”
Then throughout the rest of the day, he’d walk by Charlie (who was laying in her customary spot in the corner chair in direct view of the tree), stop, look at her, hold out his arms, then swing them around to point to the tree saying “Charlie! Look! Christmas tree!” Adorable!
Owen has been getting into Blues Clues lately…and consequently seeing clues (pawprints) everywhere! It started with a pawprint logo on a pet bed, then a pawprint on some carpet cleaner (on a closet shelf that I’m still not sure how he managed to notice)…and just now, he saw the Clemson paw on the scrolling football scores and said “There’s a clue!” 🙂
This time, it took 166 photos over the course of the entire day to get the shot.
