Washington, DC - 8th & I

July 2002

Charlie Company (plus wives) attended a special performance of the 8th & I Evening Parade in DC. %Trips (It was for the First Annual Worldwide Commandants Conference. Also, for those in the know, the guest of honor was Senator/Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.) Although the evening was not quite what I expected (I wanted more drill-team action a la A Few Good Men), it was amazing. When the 150+ member drill team (in dress blues with guns/bayonets) walked out on the field in unison--wow! And the sound it made as they did everything (from marching to slamming guns on the concrete) was just stunning. Then if that wasn’t cool enough, they introduced the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon. That had to be THE most awesome sight I’ve ever seen--27 men in perfect unison, doing the most amazing, silent, complex routines. I could have watched them for hours but it only lasted maybe 15 minutes. (Read more about 8th & I here.)
