They’re learning how to clean the sink tonight. This is what I found after moving cereal bowls this morning. GRRR.

Queen of mac and cheese.
Katie didn’t like what we were having for dinner so she was making mac and cheese. Sometimes we help but otherwise she has to get a stool to reach the microwave. Pretty soon I’ll teach her how to make boxed stuff instead of the instant bowls.
Gummy tongue!
From Gramma Jean’s trip to Maine!
Next stop? Dessert!
We don’t always get a chance to stop at Goodale’s, so we took advantage today! And Katie was out of her grouchy phase. 🙂
I surprised the kids with lunch out!
I’ve been wanting to take the kids out for lunch all summer but just never did it, so today on the way home from the library I just stopped and surprised them!
Katie’s birthday adventure with GJ!
Remember last year when Gramma took Katie out on a birthday adventure? Well, she loved it so much they decided to do it again! But this year, Katie was really nice and invited her brother along, too, since she knew he’d have fun, too. Awwwww, what a sweet Katie bug.
They went to the city park and had a picnic lunch, skipped stones, and played in the river; then went mini golfing and to another playground; and finished off with ice cream from Dairy Queen and a quick treat from Dollar General! They had a great day!
Birthday cake pop!
We met friends at the park for a few hours and they surprised Katie with a birthday cake pop!
Dinner at the pool!
Another lost post. Pretend I posted this on July 2. 🙂
I promised the kids that we would have dinner at the pool one time this summer. It ended up being today since Tom was working late.
The Nibbler
Or why kids are weird #451.
This is how Katie now eats strawberries. She nibbles parts of each one. Why? How do you just not eat a damn strawberry?
Surprise cupcakes!
We were at a local park with friends and there was a birthday party there. When it was over they came over and offered us their leftover cupcakes! It worked out perfectly as there were six kids and two adults and we got eight cupcakes! They also gave us Jello cups, spoons, plates, napkins, and wipes!
Sunday Funday bike ride
I love my little photobomber.
With a bonus sno-cone surprise after.
Lunch with Katie!
Katie had been wanting us to come eat lunch with her all year but it’s harder to do here because the school wants 24-hour notice!! Plus Tom is rarely off during the day—and if he is, it’s last-minute. But since he was going to be off for Owen’s Meet the Principal, we decided to kill two birds with one stone. I made sure to ask the teacher over a week in advance and she said she’d let the office know.
Fast forward to walking in and…we were not on the approved lunch list. WHAT?! Let’s just say it was a tense few minutes as the front office staff conferred with the principal to see if we could come in. They even called Katie’s teacher to confirm and she obviously told them yes and she had forgotten to forward my email. The assistant principal eventually came out and told us that our daughter shouldn’t be punished because the adults couldn’t get their crap together… So then it was off to the lunchroom with 100 kindergartners. YIKES!
When Katie saw us walk in she got all shy and red-faced! It took her a minute to get excited about us being there.
Tuesday date day!
Tom took the day off after his sleep study so we had a date afternoon and went out for lunch to a new place…
Afterward we hit a craft beer store and Tomgot his treat. I had a margarita with lunch so it was his turn. 🍺
Tom looks at beer while I look at beer names. This is my current favorite.
Good to the last drop!
Totally my daughter. 🙂
Katie was surprised to see this.
Decorating Christmas cookies at the gallery!
Dinner, wine, and s’mores with the neighbors.Â
Our two next door neighbors could not be more welcoming. Aside from letting our kids play together all the time, this happened tonight…
Stacey came to collect her kids and I happened to mention that Tom was gone so I was ready to pop the wine and she said her husband was going to be really late so we should do a patio dinner. Yes, please! She would do hot dogs and pizza sticks and I’d bring wine and fruit. She even had frozen peaches for the wine! The middle neighbor, Ines, joined us and felt guilty for not bringing anything, so she offered s’mores at their house after! Yes, please!!
Owen’s treat with Gramma!
Owen was bummed that Katie got a small present from Gramma at the art fair but there weren’t any “boy things” for him to get so Gramma promised to take him out to buy something at the store. I jumped in to suggest an experience instead of a thing and they were both good with that. We ended up getting ice cream at a shop downtown and eating it in the gazebo. And he told Gramma he wanted a day with her for his birthday like Katie had!!
Own patiently waiting at the wine store.
Katie’s special night with mom
Since Owen was getting to go on a special trip to a baseball game, I had to make Katie’s night spent at home fun, too—of course she was a bit bummed that she didn’t get to go on the trip, but I assured her she wouldn’t love the baseball game.
Part 1: The playground with friends and a treat from the ice cream truck!
Part 2: Night swim with ice cream… And staying up past her bedtime!!
What can be better than a treat from the ice cream truck!
Ice cream truck!
The kids have been bugging us and bugging us and bugging us about getting ice cream from the ice cream man ever since he started coming around this spring. We promised them we’d do it once before we moved—but the timing would have to be right since he usually comes to the playground after school and that is right before dinner. So today we were at Julie’s and she was going to get something for Kayleigh and offered to get something for Katie… Well I couldn’t very well have Katie telling Owen she got something so I texted Tom and had him send Owen out. They were thrilled.
This won’t be happening again.
Katie didn’t like dinner tonight (sloppy joes) but she wanted more chips and the M&Ms Owen got for dessert so we told her she had to finish her sandwich half. She didn’t HAVE to finish, though…just if she wanted the extras.
Guess how long she sat there eating her half a sandwich? Ten minutes? Twenty? Thirty? Ha! Try ONE HOUR. (And I think it only ended then because I told her it was getting ridiculous and I was setting a timer. So she had five minutes to finish or lose the extras.)
This is the first time she’s sat there/we’ve let her sit. Normally the table is cleared when dinner is over and if she’s hungry later she can eat her dinner then. This hour business won’t be happening again, that’s for damn sure.

Celebrating Owen’s awesome report card!!
He got mostly 4s (the top grade) with 3s in art and music. This was his best report card yet! So we treated him to Sweet Frog (frozen yogurt).
Can you guess whose was whose?
Top: Katie (gummies, M&Ms, and Nerds) & Tom (nuts, pound cake, coconut)
Bottom: Jen (Heath bar, Oreos, peanut butter, marshmallow, and chocolate sauces) & Owen (mini chocolate chips, cherries, marshmallow fluff)
Another birthday cake for Owen.Â
Time for Owen’s mini cake!
Since we’re heading out on vacation tomorrow and didn’t want any leftovers, I made a small “personal” sized box cake mix.
Birthday boy/girl gets to lick the candles!
Everyone got to pick their own sprinkles (because Tom and I hate them). 🙂

My plain piece, with a frosting height even Papa would love. 🙂
Movie & Popcorn
I can’t remember what movie they watched but they both wanted popcorn for dinner—Grauntie Marge had given Katie an ENTIRE BOX of stovetop popcorn so they were super excited about that. So we let them eat popcorn for dinner. What a treat! Katie also enjoyed her new mermaid tail blanket from Gramma Jean!
