When do you care about how cold it is?

That was the question posed the other day on the forum I frequent (the one where we met the people at New Years). The poll choices were:

  • 50°
  • 30°
  • -10°
  • -25°

Having lived in Michigan most of my life, of course my first instinct was to say -25°. That said, having now lived in North Carolina for the last three years…I’d say 30°. (In my heart of hearts I really thought about saying 50°, but 50° is just chilly…while 30° is flat out COLD.)

So this morning, my little desktop weather channel icon was flashing red, which means a severe weather warning. Severe weather? I had no idea what it could be—this isn’t hurricane season! :)) So I clicked on it and…cold weather. Supposedly the worst cold weather of the season is coming over the next few days. And what is this extreme cold weather?

DAYTIME TEMPS WITH HIGHS IN THE MID- TO UPPER-30S WITH OVERNIGHT TEMPS IN THE UPPER TEENS AND 20S

I laughed. Yes, it’s cold for NC, but I guess I am still a Michigan girl at heart because that made me laugh out loud.
